Spoilers are bad, mmkay? EO doesn't have much to spoil, but it's still important. To cover text that spoils something, use the following template:

[Text that spoils the game](#s)

[Text that spoils the game](/s)

The above will produce Text that spoils the game.

Weaknesses in my Party?

Currently running a Fencer/Pugilist Dragoon/Necromancer/Shaman party, with the Fencer focused on dodging, Pugilist using One-Two Blow for DPS, Dragoon providing more mitigation, Necromancer debuffing/poison, and Shaman buffs. I just beat the 1st Stratum boss at level 15, although it was rather tense. I wanted to ask if the team will be good for the rest of the game, and if not what changes I'd need to make. Right now I feel like I'm lacking on the AOE department at least.

Getting overwhelmed with subclasses and need a little help deciding

My team consist of Ronin/War Magus/Nightseeker in the front and Ninja/Sovereign in the back.

- Ronin is the main dps with helm splitter enabled to never miss by ailments like sleep or leg bind.

- War Magus is an allrounder with emergency healing (but mainly it is enough with vampire), ok damage, and some debuffs and binds.

- Nightseeker is the second dps and another ailment inflictor (if the ninja does not have a very effective status to inflict).

- Ninja is the main ailment inflictor and offer a bit of support with the clone and sometimes dodge tanking.

- Sovereign is the main healer and buffer of the team.

I have run these team since the beggining of the game but I am a bit overwhelmed by the subclass decision, so I have put my team and mostly what they offer in my party. So, any good ideas of what to do with them ?

Struggling to enjoy EOU2 after loving EO4

Hey, so I'm a newcomer to Etrian Odyssey, and im currently playing through untold 2 after beating EO4, and i'm stuck on the fight with Scylla. The thing is even though I usually have to attempt a few times to beat an Etrian Odyssey boss, for this one the whole fight seems like such a hassle that I'm really considering just moving on to etrian odyssey 5 instead, and stopping my playthrough for now.

The thing is I started the game on classic with a Landsknecht/beast/warmagus/survivalist/troubadour team and i overall regret playing it on classic instead of story mode because im just not having fun. My main issue with the game is its floor design, as I just find the constant puzzles and FOES exhausting, also the classes I'm using, just lack interesting toolkits for me to really get invested in, like the bushi or the arcanist had. I also feel that most of my class power is just regulated to my super powerfull force and froce break skills especially in boss fights which have big hp bars. Grimoires dont really feel that interesting either as there is so many to sort through and the best option seems to just stack skills, and most of the money to be made seems to tied to advertising which I don't like either.

I just wanna know if any of these things get better later into the game or they change, or if the issues im having with this game are specific to it or also applied to other etrian odyssey games as well so i should maybe skip the series.

Note that I still can undestand if you like EOU2, its just I personally feel that the things it focus on as an etrian odyssey game don't appeal to me really, I don't mean to be too negative.

How do yo imagine Etrian Odyssey world? Realistic or magical?

I mean, closer to realistic, like Lord of the Rings, where they were supposed to be within human limits or more magical, where they perform gigantic jumps and do attacks that destroy the floor and big explosions everywhere. I always choose adult characters because I think it's more realistic than magical, it feel weird to send a child to the most dangerous dungeon in the world.

Im trying to get the bizare monsters achivement in EO3, but i can't manage to spawn any pasaran.
I followed this guide https://lpix.org/sslptest/index.php?id=153740, but no luck.
Already tried tents, used like 40 in one go.

Other posibly relevant information:
- Im trying in floor 3, appended my map.

- Im in my third playthrough, so maybe i didnt speak with some npc?

Status Affliction percentiles

I've been looking around a bit for more precise equations after I noticed my Reaper failing to apply Poison on a target weak to it three times in a row.

I know, I know, it's RNG; I just want to know how the series calculates its probabilities. (Currently re-playing EOX, but wondering in general)
I imagined it being similar to Darkest Dungeon where the percentiles affect each other additively:

Stun Chance 210%
Stun Resist 160%
Actual Chance 50%

If so, could enemies weak to ailments have negative percentiles?

what is the preferred weapon type for the Ninja class?

Hi there. Today in my game I ran into a conundrum and wanted to ask the inputs of people who know the mechanics of the games better than me.

I'm currently in the 10th dungeon right before the boss (boiling lizard) and one of my party is a ninja/ nightseeker

For the whole game I've been using Katanas on my ninja because I know they are some of the highest offensive weapons in the series. I know the ninja can also use knives but they usually are lower on physical attack but higher magic attack.

With The nightseeker sub I've been investing points to use shadow bite and swift edge because my team has a few different ways to give ailments so doing higher damage against creatures with them seems easy damage boosts + was going to then get points into follow trace to try and get a second round of those skills.

I didn't realize using a katana wouldn't allow me to use those skills however. So I'm not sure If I have been building incorrectly. I also see how a lot of Ninja skills need a knife to use. Between Katana, Knife, and Sword what should I be going for here? It seems like switching to sword to be able to use those nightseeker skills seems like the best choice but please let me know.

Planning on restarting the Game, and I'd like some extra educated thoughts

So, for some context, I played 3 before back on the Remasters' Release and actually got pretty far (partway through the 4th Stratum IIRC), but quit partway through due to a combination of burn-out/fatigue from going through all of them back-to-back, aswell as simply not being as satisfied with my Team as I'd hoped to be.

Now that I gave the Game some rest, I've been considering to give it a second go with a fresh start and Team, but in order to avoid the same disatisfaction, I'd like to post my planned Group here first and do some potential fine-tweaking based on whatever advice you guys might have to offer:

  • Hoplite, though haven't decided on a Sub yet. Will probably go Ninja because I'm basic like that, primarily for Boss Fights.

  • Monk with Sovereign Sub. Yes I know nothing special either, in and of itself, but you'll see in a bit. The Plan is to just pick up Prevent and Protect Order, but otherwise stick to the Monk's Healing Side (and maybe a single Token Point in Fist Mastery just to have it? Or should I stick to Clubs as their Weapons?). Mainly because the next Member would be:

  • Sovereign with Shogun Sub. My Idea was to stick them with only Attack Order and the three passive Heals (Royal Veil / Triumphant Cry / Monarch March), while picking up Blitz Command and the Time-powered Katana Attacks for Damage. Basically, the Endgoal is having one "pure" / defensive Support with the Monk, and one offensive one with the Main Sovereign.

  • Arbalist with Zodiac Sub. Pretty straight-forward, getting Singularity and Etheric Charge to boost the Arb's own Elemental Barrages and use those Randoms + Armor Piercer for Bosses.

  • Ninja with Buccaneer Sub. Going for Pincushion with Backrow Rapiers (and Eagle Eye for DEF-Debuffing) on Bosses + Swashbuckling Beheading agaibst Randoms

So browsing around i read that the untold versions on 3ds are different from the original games.

Is the Origins the original with updated graphics or does it come with things in untold?

Play Order of Etrian Odyssey 1-3 HD Remaster

I recently got a copy of the Etrian Odyssey remaster on Switch, but noticed that it doesn't let me choose the game to start with when launching the game for the first time. I've never played the series before, so I'm unsure if this is normal? Do you have to beat the first game to unlock the second or third one? Do you have to play all the games in order each time you want to start a new save file? Am I missing something? I was struggling to find an answer to my question online for this specific situation. I would appreciate a response, if possible.

How do I approach the game?

Im new to etrian, just bought EO3 and am planning on fully immersing myself in it. Obviously I plan on being diligent in my cartography, but what else, how should I build my teams, do I sell monster drops or hoard them like in MonHun, and ehat tips or strategy should I follow?

EO2 HD party comp

So I've been browsing alot of old party comp posts on reddit/gamefaqs, but I was wondering if someone could provide a little clarity on something -

Just how necessary is a Protector for the postgame content?

I know the more 'meta' party seems to be R, DH, WM, G, H, and I know that works for almost everything, but I don't want to have to level up something new towards the end of the game. Does that party work all the way through postgame, or would I need to replace one of them, I would assume the Ronin, with a protector eventually. Anyhoot, if I'm going to need a P eventually, I would just assume start out with one and just have a little less damage, but then if the above party can just lock everything down and out dps the superboss before a P would be needed, that's fine too. If anyone has any thoughts I'd be appreciative!

Thinking back on EOX I don't remember seeing any labyrinths (or any mention at all) from Arcadia (EOV).

Maybe the shrines took it's place?

Returning to EOU, story mode classes

So, I've had some contact with Etrian Odyssey before, but I never actually beat any of the games. I'm thinking to return to Untold and actually commit to finishing it, and I'd like to do so on story mode. With that in mind, I have come to some conclusions about how to build the classes, ad I'd like to confirm if they're correct before I commit.

Highlander: Bloody Offense is a fantastic buff (start boss fights on the back row, then move forward after casting it), and is cheap enough that there's merit in rushing it to max early game to get the most turns out of it. Delayed Charge + Cross Charge is the bread and butter wombo combo, and Spear Assist is reliable damage for turns not spent setting that up, with the story mode party having easy access to elemental damage to trigger the damage boost. Draining Thrust is a decent horde-clearing attack, but doesn't need investment beyond learning it, which happens automatically. Remaining skill points should be channeled to either Limitless to maximize damage on the wombo combo turn, or Bloodlust, which triggers on life loss, not simply damage taken, so doing anything while under the effects of Bloody Offense triggers it.

Medic: Delayed Heal is the workhorse heal spell, and Heal for when you can't afford to wait a turn. Heal numbers are fairly front-loaded, so you can afford to leave them at level 1 early game while learning new skills. Level 6 for Unbind and level 9 for refresh are efficient places to leave them at before jumping to max. With Revive also leveled, there's still some room to invest in one of the status skills, and Curare, being a disable that doesn't clear on attack, seems like the best option.

Protector: Unfortunately seems like a machine that produces Front Guards, which is not a very interesting way to play. I'd like to know if there is a more interactive way to play the class that doesn't reduse effectiveness too much. Elemental guards are situational, but a must have when they are relevant, and should not be maxed out, as nullifying damage blocks secondary effects, but inverting it brings them back online.

Alchemist: Tier 1 formulas are workhorses and should be leveled up as necessary. Tier 2 formulas get shit done early game but scale poorly and should be ignored. Only one tier 3 formula should be invested in in order to not spread resources too thin. Analysis is based. Dilution does work on a party heavy on elemental damage, but I question how valuable it really is if I don't *see below*.

Gunner: Action Boost is busted, but it's kind of a dud until maxed out, so I'm not sure if I should rush it early or invest in the basics and leave it for late game. Beyond that, there are three directions this class can be built as: a basic attack spammer built around Vulcan Stance, a disabler with the snipe skills, and an elemental burst attacker. The elemental build seems to be the best in terms of raw power, especially with the aforementioned Dilution taking things even further beyond, but I'm more inclined to go for the disabler build, since I have no other reliable source of binds. In that case, the damage skill of choice is the less powerful regular Charged Shot, since I have no resources to invest in even just one of the elemental versions fully.

I'm pretty confident that I got this mostly figured out, but just in case I may have missed a detail, I'm writing it out here

Getting the most out of Landsknecht?

Trying to use one for my EON team and her link damage is really bad. She is landing multiple hits, that I have no issue with, it's just that the damage from her link attacks is very low, even when hitting weaknesses, even with maxed links and Link Mastery.

Suggestions? I might change her subclass. I went Ronin for Physical Attack Up and Speed Up but I might change that.

Recommendations needed

So, i used to play a LOT of old school dungeon crawlers back in the late 90's and fell out of them as I got to around 17 years old. I skipped out on EO until i'd say.. honestly 3 years ago. And i've been navigating between them all on a whim. I really love these games now, but it left me wondering. Any other noteworthy Dungeon Crawlers like EO? My usual platforms are Switch (mostly for physical), Vita, PS3, DS/3DS and Steam. I don't mind going out of my way to grab physicals so anything close to EO is a huge yes for me.

You can skip recommending Persona Q, I got them both. Heroes of the Monkey Tavern I also have.

It's possible to beat the game up until the normal final boss (5th stratum) with two swordsmen attacking in the front row and on the backrow one offensive mage , one buffer and one healer ?

Lookit me I beat god(again)

One step closer to actually seeing all the past dungeons Nexus has, because I FINALLY beat EOIV! Gotta say, not a big fan of the Echoing Library nor the King's Throne biz, but otherwise a suuuuuuper good finale. I only had 1(one) heart attack during the final boss. Time to finish EO2U! (I'm on like floor 12 or something)
