Another oil thread but I recently bought a bg86 blower and bought a 6 pack of hp ultra I come back home to look at the reviews they all are shitting on the hp ultra this is my first 2 stroke engine in a long time so I don't want to throw away any of this oil
Got this FS 55 R trimmer from a buddy who was moving and swapping to full EGO electric. He owed me $50 and asked if I wanted this (he stated non running) instead so I said sure sight unseen. I dumped out the fuel and filled about 1/4 tank with some premixed canned fuel. Wouldn’t start so all I did was take off the air filter and it started right up. Put the filter back in and let it run for about 10 minutes. I’ve cranked it up 3 or 4 times over the past week with no issues.
Any recommendations on stuff to do or check in this model before going to test it out on some real brush? It’s needs a new air filter and a shoulder strap but aside from cleaning off the carb exterior nothing else stands out. Also I have never owned a straight shaft trimmer or one this nice…can this model accept and effectively use blades or something more abrasive than regular trimmer string?
Is there a very noticeable difference between this saw and bigger top handle saws in power? (200, 201, 020t)
Very happy with it for small clearing and limbing work but wondering if I should’ve gotten one of the bigger top handle models.
Just wanted to see if anyone out there has used both before
Everything I bought this year.
201T $425 2 201TC $550 for both 1 462C $500 (powerhead only) 1 362c $500 1 BR800C $475
I’m shopping for a new MS400 and noticed the dealer to which I went had priced the saw including a standard bar at the Stihl website price for the saw with a lightweight bar.
Do dealers get to set their own prices? Do they have a little bit of wiggle room? Or is this dealer pulling something shady by not giving customers the lightweight bar at the lightweight bar price?
Thank you
I bought a practically brand new BR800C for $475 on marketplace. There are great deals out there!
What the longest bar length you are comfortable and confident running and on what saw?
Anyone know or have the means to find a part number for the Light 04 version of this? Stihl's bar finder just gives the specs for the 04 but not the part number.
I'm looking at an fs90, so I started researching the engine. And, as a retired tech, all I could do was shake my head. All of the downsides of a 2 stroke with none of the benefits?
Why not just put a 2 stroker in it?
Am I missing something?
I bought a MS-400 C-S and used 40:1 oil mixture after the initial break in of a few gallons of 50:1 from Stihl. My saw lasted about 8 gallons, before the piston wore out the metal and rings on 30% of the circumference and wouldn't start. Stihl wasn't going to honor the warranty, with 30 days usage! The higher oil content should not hurt it, Stihl was saying I didn't use any oil at all- till I produced the 40:1 oil mixture receipts for the 8 gallons, AND I HAD TO THREATEN MAJOR SOCIAL MEDIA RETALIATION BEFORE THEY WOULD HONOR THE WARRANTY! I would love to hear from other MS-400 CS owners that are also burned up with Stihl chainsaws. They supposedly have alloy liners, what is the alloy- zinc? The Bar was worn out too, the Dealer wanted to sell me another- and wouldn't replace it under warranty! Seriously, 150 hours and a "professional" chainsaw burns up???? And Stihl wants to deny the Warranty, and instead of offering another NEW chainsaw, repairs the new garbage? And keeps me waiting 5 weeks for a repair? Stihl's reputation is going to be garbage treating customers like this.
Here's a picture of the new Stihl MS-400 CS piston with 150 hours of use:

Should I have accepted back the Chainsaw with Stihl's repair, instead of a new Chainsaw? Would you have accepted that? How could the vaunted Stihl fail like this after 150 hrs.?
Does Stihl have workshop manuals and does anybody know where to find them? I found this manual at Stihl MS 261 C-M Workshop Manual - CWM but can't get it to download. I am working on replacing the cylinder on my 261 and was just looking for some reference documents. The best I've found are the parts diagrams here Stihl MS 261 Chainsaw (MS261 C) Parts Diagram. I think I'll just download these if I can't find anything better.
Hey so I picked up my 500i a few weeks ago and I just tried pairing it with my 20in FarmBoss bar. I was getting tons of weird scraping noises and a few sparks. Dose anyone know if there's a problem with this pair? I know the 500i can rock a 20in bar but maybe not with this bar and chain combination.
The ms400 manual says to use Stihl "special cleaner" of high pH to clean the filter.
I cannot find this product.
What do you all use to clean your air filters?
So the cable stop attached to the carb is not opening all of the way. I have tried to adjust it using the slot on the trigger but it's not pulling it enough. is there an adjustment screw somewhere that I just don't know about? I'm fairly new at repairs so any wisdom would be appreciated.
found a cheap stihl 193 on market place, $180 are they good saws? really my question is are they worth a damn?
In a hypothetical situation where i don't care about emissions, and the power change isnt noticeable: 'Am i better off running 40:1 oil?' I dont mind the smoke, and id like the saw to last. My friends that work with saw professionally say they mix closer to 40:1 because the extra lube gets the saw longer before rebuilds. Is that true? If it is true do you have tune the carb to run the 40:1? In my mind id rather deal with a little more smoke and get more hours out of the machine before it needs to be opened up.
follow up question: 'does the answer on the top, about the 50cc real 2 stroke, apply to my fs91 2mix 4stroke trimmer or my fs111 edger?'
EDIT: I am going to run premix 50:1, i will probably burn the 40:1 can i have but will be doing 50:1 from here out. thanks.
I have a Stilhl 261C, Husky 455 Rancher and a clone 660. The Husky and the Clone have 3/8 pitch chains where as the 261 has .325. Is there any reason that I can't use a 3/8 pitch chain on the MS261? Stihl makes one that fits the 261. I was thinking about buying a 50' or 100' reel of chain since we already have the tools to cut and make chains.
Stilh 261 bar
The Oregon bar I have on the clone

Title says it all, saw runs like a champ and no problems starting but dies out at idle after about 20-30 seconds. Airfilters brand new, new plug. Where do i began to look. Thanks all
I'm not familiar with too many of the older models so I'll stick to what I actually know.
Let's consider only the powerhead with its original pair of dogs.
This is for me the coolest one:
Has anybody else had issues with the 800x mufflers shearing off. Why is this happening. Is it as simple as replacing the muffler or what could be the underlaying cause and how can I fix that?
Update: I went to the dealer and bought a new muffler and I asked what could be the underlying cause and he said they check if there is wobble in the crank. They were busy so I couldn't get more details. Does anybody know what that means, how I can check if there is wobble. If there is wobble, does it entail replacing the whole cylinder or is there other possible solutions?
This was after letting it warm up, they say this normal because it's a small saw. Also loosened the chain as recommended in my old post. It acts like the chain brake is in but it is not.
So I just picked up a brand new MS 171 last week to use for delimbing and cutting smaller stuff. Trigger response is really crappy, it bogs down to the point the chain won't spin. Same with pointing the saw down or on its side. I messed with the carb this weekend, got it a little better but not great. Took to my dad's and we messed with for about an hour and never got better. Took it to the dealer today and the adjusted it. He showed me how "good it was now" and it bigged down to the point it died. He told me that's just the way it is because it's a small saw. Is this true or just them not wanting to do anything for me? My 50 year old Homelite Super XL Automatic trigger response is instant! Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!
Hi. I haven’t changed my chain or bar before, and I’m about to buy a ripping chain. I’ve been milling with my standard 1,3mm .325 chain at 14” long until now, but I’ve heard ripping chains will be way better.
What dimension for bar and chain should I buy?
I know 261 is small for milling, but it’s what I will be using
