Visiting Cuba (2026)

Hi all.

We (my partner and I) are planning to travel to Cuba in 2026 from Australia. I'm obsessed with Havana (and cities in general), and would like to spend about a week slowly exploring the city, taking our time, enjoying the culture. We are also planning a tour of other parts of the country - via intrepid, for 8 days.

I'm posting to ask opinions on visiting Cuba right now - how is the country going? What is it like to visit as a visitor?

I'm mostly looking for non-USA commentary, trying to sort out the fear mongering people who are anti Cuba from those with a decent enough impression of the country.

We don't mind roughing it/having a holiday that isn't picture perfect/5 stars. We plan on staying in a Casa Particular in Havana, visiting some local bars/restaurants/music spots, as well as all the sites.

Pasaporte Cubano con 0papeleo. Good or Bad?

Hola chicos!

Cuban Party

Hello! I got invited to a party and the host is from Cuba and it’s going to be a Cuban theme. Any suggestions on what I could bring as a gift? I was thinking a bottle of rum, but that’s so basic… Thx!

new traveler to Cuba

Forgive me if this has been asked already but we have just decided to visit Cuba and would appreciate any general (or specific) suggestions folks might have. We are aware that bringing humanitarian goods is good, but how are they distributed? Would also like suggestions on places not to miss. Thanks so much.

Asking for job advice

Hi there, I live in Cuba. I'm 22 y/o and in the last year of my career. I only have to attend class twice a month so I'm looking for a job to make some money and fill my weekdays. I've tried job searching the conventional way for months now but it's been kinda hard in my city and the ones I could get won't hire me w/o a university degree. Any suggestions on online/remote jobs I could apply for? Even if it was a side hustle type thing. Some of my strengths are: languages (I'm currently bilingual (English, Spanish) and learning Italian and German), math, computer skills, people skills. Any help is appreciated.

Casa Particuares in Cuba

Just returned from an amazing 2-week trip around Cuba, staying in casa particuares booked through AirBnB. I would highly recommend by-passing the resorts and going the casa route. You have the opportunity to meet Cuban people, see their culture and sense of community first-hand, and put much-needed money in their hands. Our hosts offered lovely breakfasts, recommended local attractions and restaurants, set up taxi rides, helped us with changing money, and allowed us to practice Spanish, even though they spoke English. Getting off the resort made the whole experience so human, so personal, and meaningful.

Re Blackouts: I think a lot of Canadians are scared of the blackouts, because at home, a blackout would be very scary and possibly life threatening. But Cubans just keep rolling on with them and are very calm about it. Our hosts had back up power. We had flashlights for going out at night and honestly, I felt entirely safe all the time.

Happy to share where we visited, what we brought to give out as gifts, and what I recommend bringing to make your trip successful.

US Immigration

Anyone notice any difference at immigration as a US citizen returning from Cuba on the “support for the Cuban People” license since the Trump administration has taken over?

How is Malaysia for Cubans?

I'm American, and visiting my Cuban GF every 3 months is getting tough. I see Malaysia requires no visa for Cubans. My job is remote ... how feasible is it for us to live together there for 3-6 months?

Tipping my host, tour guides and instructors

Hi everyone! I will be traveling to Havana in a week and would like to get a better understanding of the appropriate amount to tip people that help me.

I will be taking USD with me so all the below amounts are USD. Say my airbnb is $18 a day, then what would be a good amount to tip my host? If she is doing me favours like showing me where to buy clothes etc, what would be a good tip? Should this be altogether at the end, or at the time of the service?

For tours and scuba diving, for a $80 tour, would $8 be a good tip? Similarly should I tip &15 for a $150 scuba diving day?

Also I don't know if I'm getting the right tours etc because I'm sorely relying on airbnb - is there a local service I can use and is better since airbnb is banned in Cuba?

Thank you!!

Tariff gonna tarriff

With the US doing their tariff thing against most countries, shouldn't that make it easier for most countries to start trading more with Cuba, since the Orange Man is going to punish them regardless?

As an American gringo it's never made sense to me why the US has never performed a regime change in Cuba

The US has assassinated leaders in Latam countries, even kidnapped a President of a sovereign nation while you have the Castro regime that's 90 mi off the coast of Key West. Its almost as if it serves US foreign policy to allow the Castro regime to run the country into the ground. 🤷‍♀️

How has electricity issues of 2024 December been solved?

Hi, I've opened this sub when I've read about electricity problems in Cuba curca 2024 December. Now google search for "cuba electricity problems solved" finds old news (as usual only new issues get attention on the web).

How was the process of restoring "normal" electricity supply in Cuba? Last date web search finds is Dec 5, 2024. How fast has service been restored (I assume it has, or has it not?)? Do you have regular blackouts now? Cheers, TIA

Opinions on r/asklatinamerica?

I’ve joined that server awhile back ago. They seem to be very against Hispanics/Latinos born in the states even if they did come from immigrant parents. I just want to know what this sub thinks of that sub, since this sub seems a lot more chill than that one.

Será que somos los más incrédulos del hemisferio?

Todas las locuras que nos contaron nunca fueron cuestionadas. Un pueblo de incrédulos, olvidadizos y con una ausencia de criterio mayúscula. Ese es el legado del Comandante.
