Hi everyone,
In a week (May 10, 2024 - 10 AM AST) I (Research Assistant - Carleton University) will be joining Dr. Andrea Sealy (Scientist - Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology), Dr. Martin Forde (Professor - St. George's University), and Dr. Kerry Mitchell (Professor - St. George's University) as guest speakers to discuss Saharan Dust and its impacts on human health in the Caribbean region. This event will be part of the Public Health Lecture Series held by the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at St. George's University (Grenada).
Just to provide a bit of context about me, I come from Ottawa, Canada and I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to study ambient air pollution, and the impacts of Saharan Dust and COVID-19 restrictions on ambient air pollution in Grenada for my master's thesis in 2020. This project was a collaborative effort between the university I attended, Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada), Dalhousie University (Halifax, Canada) and St. George's University (Grenada, West Indies). Among the professors that I worked with for this thesis were Dr. Forde and Dr. Mitchell in Grenada.

My husband and I are planning our first big vacation in December to Saint Lucia Grande. We love walking and hiking at local parks. We want to tackle this hike, and see the views, and be able to say we did it. But how challenging is it really? I'm 28 and he's 33. We both strength train 4 days a week. I walk 30 minutes every day on my lunch break, but it's a flat neighborhood walk. We hike a few times a month at a more hilly park. I have asthma, so I know I would need to carry my inhaler. I also have scoliosis, and he has rheumatoid arthritis, so I expect we would both be sore. If you've climbed Gros Piton, please share your age, fitness level, health limitations, and what the hike was like for you.
Stupid question but it’s really worrying me. I heard how strict they are. I’m trini btw
Any suggestions on which islands to visit in November-Thanksgiving? It’s at the end of the month this year. Going with 16 year old boy, 11 year old girl (parents). Would love all inclusive resort! Thank you!

The teacher is absolutely helpless.
Tears to the eyes. Undeniably proof parenting and and national leaders FAILED. Deep inside we must acknowledge reform is badly needed yesterday.
I wanted -
free school supplies thereby ease financial burden.
more councilors in school and not given short contracts.
dedicated MINISTRY OF MENTAL HEALTH, all councilors are under.
THREE class teachers per class. One of whom alongside the councilor handle slow kids thus none left behind. Make up numbers by importing.
move away from UK's model and adopt the Finnish.
adopt from japan, south korea technology advances like digital whiteboard and digital textbooks.
return to school every child in the 2.814 who are dropouts.
state intervention in families by way of housing, counseling etc,
end poverty whereby families in turn survive financially by living wage and wealth share.
10, wholly state covered university and trade school.
Long as the scourge afflicts I have to repeat the above. Every institution of state is neglected.
Hoping to take my mom (60) on vacation at the end of September. I’ve never been anywhere in the Caribbean, and I don’t know what the best islands/resorts would be. Just me and mom, so definitely doesn’t need to be romantic.
I’ve narrowed down my July/August trip to these few hotels and wanted to check to see if anyone had some good or bad thoughts to share. It’ll be two 30F traveling who mostly likely to spend their time at the hotel laying on the beach, drinking in the pool, and playing water sports/activities.
Coco Reef (Tobago),
Wyndham (Grand Cayman),
Wyndham Lambert (BVI),
Marriott Royal Beach (St Kitts)
Me and my friend (both 22F) have a week to spend in the Caribbean this October before we head to Mexico. We’re on a backpacker's budget and can’t decide: should we explore just one island thoroughly or try hopping a few? We’re looking for:
Questions:
Looking forward to your suggestions. Thanks!
Best place to go for a bunch of 18 year olds?
Me and a couple of my buddies are graduating this year and want to go on trip this summer. We’ve looked in Mexico and the Caribbean. I’ve mainly looked at St Lucia and similar places. We’re looking for a safe place to go with a decent night life. We won’t be able to drive anywhere bc we’re not gonna be able to rent a car, so maybe a smaller island. The cheaper the better. Any Ideas?
I was originally planning to take my gf to go to Antigua or the Bahamas. Found all-inclusive places for about $3K. Then I realized I didn't have 6 months on my UK passport so I'd have to renew. So now I have a dilemma. I can either keep my passport and do 5 nights all inclusive in DR, which I did last time. Or I can risk it, hope to get my passport back in time and go somewhere else. But if not my only other option would be Puerto Rico since that's a US territory and I wouldn't need a passport. Is a beach vacation to Puerto Rico doable on 3K for the two of us for 5 nights? Realize it won’t be all inclusive but would like it to be as stress free as possible as works been pretty crazy just want to relax. So ideally where we stay will be less than 45 mins from airport and won’t be super expensive when it comes to food and drink options.
A needless death.
Poverty eradication is one important method to stem PREVENTABLE CRIME. Men slew him for money.
Living wage of 5 grand, $30 hourly. Inflation pegged so pay doesn't shrink. Keeps greedy employers safe and protects workers from exploitation.
Guaranteed Minimum Income wealth share - GMI is 5 grand monthly to adults earning under 200 grand yearly. The state is not paying a wage.
Small business and small micro enterprise - STATE backed entrepreneurship in form of interest free loans, free SB school etc, gives the youth opportunity.
Economic diversification in non oil sectors - tourism; computer software; scientists; medical factory; small electronics; agriculture etc.
All the above is wise use of our oil cash. Saves lives, empowers our people.

Steven Harding’s shop at Green Hill, Diego Martin had been robbed seven times last year. However, a robbery early yesterday turned fatal after he was tied up, gagged and his head duct-taped by bandits who took the keys to the shop and left.
The 60-year-old shopkeeper was found unresponsive in his bedroom by a male relative around 2.15 am. He had been gagged and his head was wrapped in silver duct tape. Police believe he may have suffocated to death.
Hello there, out of curiosity, what flavor vapes do people smoke in The Caribbean ?
My wife and I have unexpectedly come across some free time in April, and are looking to book a last minute vacation to the Caribbean.
Given the flights, it looks like the best islands for us are going to be the Bahamas or Grand Cayman.
Given the above, any recommendations for resorts? We're looking for something upscale, luxury-feeling, and relatively quiet (i.e., not a total zoo), but also very close to lots of dining options. Budget is between $400-700 a night for the room. So far, the leading contender from my online research is the SLS Baha Mar--but I haven't ever been there (or to either of these islands), so this is really just based on TripAdvisor score.
Given these parameters, what would you all recommend? Also open to other islands, if there's a can't miss place that we're not thinking of!
We're having trouble deciding on our honeymoon destination for this summer. We're torn between the Bahamas and Antigua. It's our first time visiting the Caribbean. Any advice on which one to choose and why?
