This is a bit of a complicated one. I'll try to keep it brief.
I've seen a few people on social media asserting that krampus as a concept is not based on any pagan faiths from before christianity, but instead that it was a concept created around the 1930s-40s as a way to insert antisemitic imagery into christmas celebrations.
These people also said any information online connecting krampus to pagan roots are fabrications made up to hide the true roots, or at best, misguided guesses.
I thought until now that krampus was a goatman, but looking at some old imagery, I can see that a lot of it is indeed hateful caricature.
Is that the true origin of this figure, or was an existing figure co-opted to be used in hateful imagery?
I read somewhere that you can't get tanned if sunlight hits you after its passer through a window
Pretty much all in the title.
The principal is that the ear nose and throat is all connected (ENT), so cleaning the ears is helpful.
He recommends it as soon as you start to feel something coming on.
I've heard using hydrogen peroxide to clean the ears is a pretty common method. But to help overcome a cold?
edit: I just want to add; he absolutely swears by it. Like whenever he feels at all unwell: "Gonna have to clear my ears out with hydrogen peroxide when I get home."
I've heard this fact several times, that the number of possible games of chess is a larger number than the amount of atoms in the universe. I know there are a LOT of possible games, but more games than atoms in the universe... not sure I buy that. So, IIB?
It's an old rumor I remember hearing or reading about at various points. It went something like this... The Smurfs represent an ideal communist state. Papa Smurf looks like Karl Marx. The Smurfs all look the same, live in the same sort of mushroom houses, and have a collectivist lifestyle. The villain Gargamel, who schemed to use the Smurfs to make gold, represents capitalism.
Been having some pretty bad sleep deprivation lately. I just cannot for the life of me fall asleep when my head hits the pillow. I don't want to go down the sleeping pills/melatonin supplements route because I don't want to develop any dependencies. I've heard that drinking some chamomile tea a few hours before you sleep is a good way to unwind and fall asleep better, does the science back this up or is it just an exaggerated marketing tool?
Is there a peer reviewed study to the claim that pumpkin seeds help with bph and overactive bladder is it just a way to sell more supplements
After rewatching Monsters Inc, which is an amazing movie btw, something always confused me. So if you don't the main plot of the movie is that Monsters have a whole society the where everything electrical runs off of screams from kids. In Monsters Inc we see how it's the monsters job who are professional 'scarers' to use a weird magical door that does into the homes of children's closets so that they can scare them to get to scream. And we see that when they scream it fuels up a device called a scream tank, which allows it to be used as energy. We even at one point see a child screaming out in the open and it basically overpowers all the electrical appliances around her and short circuiting them.
So I'm wondering is it even possible in real life to use sound as an energy source? Or is this just something that exists in this weird world Monsters Inc?
Is It Bullshit: Chuck E Cheese had an anti-communist song called "Comrade Of Clean" in 1991.
So it's been trending awhile especially on TikTok that a user named rockafire_m00n who collects animatronics claims to have found a lost media song that Chuck E Cheese created against communism.
Is there any other proof that this was an actually 1991 Chuck E Cheese song and not just something someone else created decades later??
Like, I'm just having a hard time believing this was created by Chuck E Cheese. Let alone something for the animatronics to sing the children 😂
I see this info graphic floating around on the Interwebs pretty regularly. Is there any truth to this? I know that the homogenization, or partial homogenization, of oils isn't good for us to ingest, but I'm curious if the statements regarding plastic and paint have any merit.
For those of you who don’t know, about a month ago, Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson suffered a fibula and tibia fracture which put him on the shelf for 4-6 months. A couple of weeks ago, a video circulated of his rehabilitation efforts, showing him walking on a water treadmill.
Most people, including myself, didn’t think much of the video, however, I have family members who SWEAR that the video is fake because of the severity of his injury, and because he’s seen on crutches during game day. I’ve tried to explain to them that they’re about the only people who find it to be fake and that the video is more than plausible, but they’re convinced.
Someone laughed at me when I said I use the deslike extension. Said, YouTube completely removed this count & no one can see it
A couple of YouTubers I've been watching have been sponsored by an adult sex toy company called Bellesa. One of these YouTubers has a partnership where you can get a free "vibe" from the website, and all you have to do is put in your email.
Since there's been like 4 fairly popular YouTubers sponsored by it, the website looks legit, I've found different posts by other content creators who also got the same colab and deal, and there's even a Buzzfeed article telling people the giveaways are real, I kind of want to try it. HOWEVER, I find it suspicious and weird that this company would just give away free stuff, especially since they claim to be wanting to give out thousands of these toys. How would they be making any money from this? And after they get your email, would they just spam your account with advertisements?
But yeah, does anyone know if these giveaways actually work?
I heard that no ever has the flu before the 1918 epidemic and now everytime we get a flu is just a mutation on the original virus
I have been watching A LOT of criminal youtube videos, and one of the main YouTube channels is "EXPLORE WITH US". When I find some cases interesting I sometimes do some researching by myself, as the cases are all in the USA, it's normaly super easy to access information.
This video by them has a quite interesting case about a dad that goes on a murderous rampage with his family, I tried to do some research on it but I was having a REALLY hard time finding any information what so ever.
I found this super weird considering that "Maricopa County" (county where he was persecuted) has A LOT of cases posted online and normaly for other cases I search theres always offical reports and a bunch of information.
But this case there seems to be a few articles by super small and somewhat sketchy news sources, and thats it.
Is this YouTube channel BS? Or is there another reason this case doesn't have much information?
The few sketchy articles seem to twist the story as well, some articles focus on the fact the man sang an Eminem song while comitting the murders, while others state that the man was more violent with the family members he loved the most, all of this without any sources, evidence or official documents.
Okay, so I am skeptical of this game, but I am interested.
I saw an ad that says you can win like real money just by playing this game on your phone. However, I can't find anything online that says if it's legitimate or not. I saw one Reddit post but it smelt kind of fishy.
Do I have to pay for each round? Will I just be bombarded by ads? Will I end up giving my banking to information to a very real company that is very real and not shady at all?
I don't want to seem like an ad so I won't post any links unless I am asked to.
When I was younger, teachers used to talk about how some people are “visual learners” and remember things better by seeing them, other people are “auditory learners” and remember better by hearing, etc. But recently I heard a lot of psychologists consider this baseless pseudoscience.
Is there no empirical evidence that different people learn better with different senses?
Heard this a while ago, never believed it but it's always in the back of my mind. Something about it being dangerous for your heart in any capacity
What I heard is that chicken meat doesn't have as many tape worms as cow/pig meat, but I don't know if it's true
Yes, this is from the anti-germ-theory people, but I don't know how to verify it. The video had one argument that supposedly the discovery of HIV was retracted for this reason: they never created a pure isolation of it.
However I remember my parents also made a similar claim like this during Covid based on something they read/watched, insisting that Covid wasn't real because nobody could show them a slide with an isolated virus on it.
Was just casually watching clips from the 2005 movie "Kingdom of Heaven" and a commenter on Youtube claims that there's a version where everyone rides a unicycle. Another commenter then states that it was the Malaysian version of the movie and that their government cracked down and destroyed almost all of the copies.
This sounds absolutely batshit insane, but I feel like it's too oddly specific for someone to just randomly bring it up. Any truth to this?
His name was Joseph Greenstein and apparently he was the strongest man ever and was able to stop a bullet with his just forehead because the bullet didn’t go through due to his bone density.
But there’s other things that sound bs about this guy like moving an airplane with just his hair, so I’m trying to see if this is true
I’ve always heard that as long as you get 8 hours of sleep, it doesn’t matter when you sleep, but I’m not sure if that’s actually true. I work a lot of late shifts and then I casually play on Stake some slots, so I usually end up going to bed around 3 AM and waking up around 11 AM. Technically, I’m getting my 8 hours, but I always feel a bit groggy, especially when I compare it to the rare days when I manage to sleep earlier.
Is it possible that the time you sleep actually affects the quality of your rest, or is that just a myth? Some people say our bodies have natural rhythms and sleeping outside those hours messes with things, but I don’t know if it’s science-based or just another “wellness” trend.
For anyone else who’s had to work late or night shifts, have you found a difference when you sleep regular hours versus odd hours? I’m trying to figure out if I should try to adjust my schedule or if 8 hours truly is all that matters. Any advice on making late-shift sleep feel more refreshing would be really helpful!
Title pretty much says it all. Feels like I'm getting scammed out of tail lights I ordered cause initially they asked for a $30 refundable fee to ship, even though I paid the guy $20 to ship. Now they're saying the package is stuck at the sheriff's office "there is need for you to present your Copy of the City Permit authorization license and FDA license." This is the shipping website they used https://www.piratesshipping.com/about-us/
Edit: all taken care of. Appreciate everybody.
