This might be an odd one. I have a very nice Persian name. I’ve always loved it and when I was younger, being influenced by another friend with the same name, I got creative on how to spell it in English. The generic Iranian style of the name leans towards the French spelling, i for ای sound and oo or ou for the او sound. But younger me knew better, so I went with ee and u respectively. I was quite happy with it until I moved abroad and started to realize that:
It’s tedious to spell it each time to get people to write my name whenever I need to (which is like always!)
I often get judged by my name, and get placed in an Indian box.
It simply doesn’t look Persian enough where as the standard spelling could be more Persian (even though I have an Arabic last name and again, I don’t know for an average westerner without much knowledge of Persian vs. Indian vs. Brazilian, etc.! would make much difference…
I also feel like the spelling doesn’t look as nice as I once thought it did.
I keep thinking about changing it, but I don’t know how much of an impact it would have, plus the hassle of getting that done in all the paperwork…
But this is a recurring thought that’s in my head almost 24/7 and most of the times prevents me from signing up onto new websites (if I don’t want to have a fake nickname) because I keep thinking I should change my name or struggle with keeping the existing one and the thoughts above come to my head.
I’ve even talked to therapists about this and I’m still not over it! Would you folks help me with this? 🥺
Song is “Rostam e Dastān” by Farya Faraji”
this is an iranian movie where the main character is a girl who looks like a deer but human? i remember it being pretty old and having it on a DVD. the name "ahu" comes to mind but i can't find it anywhere. any help?
Hey. I was just wondering if Iran would be okay to visit alone as I am from England? Should I expect any uncomfortable situations/stares since I'm black? I was thinking of visiting and spending 8 days. Tehran, Karaj, Shiraz and Isfahan wherever is good enough on a budget. Would 8 days be enough to see all four cities?
I always want to visit and pray at Jamkaran Mosque.
It's a generic biosimilar medication, I cannot find any reviews or feedback about it so I'm anxious to start taking it.
Do you know anyone that tried it or can anyone confirm if it can be trusted?
Thanks.
Visa card is blocked in Iran, carrying cash is limited by customs rules. So I come up with this idea. Anyone has better suggestions? I am a tourist who need to save some cash for later travel (like Iraq .)
I oftentimes think about where I'd like to live to get out of the belly of the beast. How would an American be received in Iran? Socially? Professionally?
By trade, I'm a computer engineer with mostly a software development background.
I have no specific religion. As a former Christian I understand it, but religion isn't for me.
Politically, I'm a raging communist and anti-imperialist, but that's why I'm dreaming of leaving the US... So I can think about other things.
I suspect learning Persian is difficult. Do many people speak English?
Kind of niche, but to the Iranian / Persian-Armenian diaspora community, does anyone remember The Goorgen Show and what network it was on? Or even similar shows? I'm trying to find footage of full episodes online or sources to lead me to some information for an archival-memory based paper I'm writing around US diasporic communities and public access content. I can't find anything other than Goorgen's YouTube/Instagram page and his music videos. I'm mainly interested in the segments he would have where it would just be footage he would take driving around Iranian streets. My grandparent's would reminisce a lot when watching that specific segment and the streets they'd walk on when they resided there versus how it looks now.
My parents are both from Pakistan, but I recently learned that my mother has a surname that my Iranian friend says is quite common in Iran. I'm curious about how common the surname "Hosseini" is in Iran
"Jana"
What does it mean? "Jana"
Especially if you are familiar with Otakus' slangs, does it mean "Bye"?
I did research it before, but I want to make sure of what it means. Because someone told me it means "Bye" and it's like a slang that otakus use.
Hello everyone, I hope you are well.
First, I’m from Egypt. A week ago, I went to visit my grandmother, and while we were talking, she told me that my 4th grandfather was Iranian, not Egyptian. At first, I didn’t believe her, but then she showed me pictures of him in Iran and I was shocked i mean by "4th grandfather" my grandfather’s father.
I have always been passionate about Eastern civilizations, especially Egyptian and Persian, because they are among the greatest civilizations in history., and Iran was one of the biggest supporters of Egypt in its war against Israel, and even more Shah buried in Egypt after the Islamic Revolution.
Away from politics , I decided to visit Iran, especially Shiraz he was from it. I’m not sure name has changed or not, and I would like you all to tell me more places to visit. and as a Sunni Muslim, could this upset some Iranians?
I'm sorry for the long message, and in the end, I want to say that I am happy to discover that I'm Egyptian Pharaoh with a beautiful Poetic-Persian tongue.🇪🇬🇮🇷
♥️ممنون شما و همه شما را دوست دارم ( I translated that with Google )

I am curious if anyone has sources on how clinical depression is officially diagnosed in Iran currently. I read that a translation of the DSM-IV-TR is used, but is that still the case/ is it standardized everywhere? Also, is an official, standardized diagnosis needed to receive treatment, ie. do you need an official diagnosis from a psychiatrist to get an antidepressant prescription?
Thanks very much for your help
I love meat, vegetables, legumes, rice and I’ve had rosewater and baklava before and love it. Interested in hearing any recommendations, but I’m also curious and would leave to hear of any “out there” dishes as well!
Hi, friends. I am from Azerbaijan. I have ADHD. We do not have stimulants here in Azerbaijan, we only have atomotexine. But it does not help enough to live a daily life. I want to visit to Iran to get a stimulant prescription and get some from pharmacy. My first question is do you know any hospital where I can get a prescription easily? I have heard in some countries you get only one- month med prescription. How is it in Iran about stimulants? Is generally there any rule that I should know before deciding to visit to Iran? Thanks!
I’m looking to ship spices (saffron) out of Iran. Does anyone here have experience with shipping spices? Does anyone here have access to saffron? What is the average cost of saffron in Iran?
Thank you! Any information is helpful!
Hope you're all doing well after the recent failed Israel Attack on different Military installations. I hope your all in good health and Zionist regime doesn't do any significant damage to your country as they are showing on their channel.

Hello to everyone.I wanted to ask a question because I'm somewhat perplexed. What are the requirements for Iranians who have studied outside of Iran (elementary, middle, and high school) and attended medical school outside of Iran to transfer to Iran to complete their medical education? Will they be taught medicine in Persian? How about their exams? research? Are they all in Persian? I really need help with this because I couldn't discover any appropriate materials on the internet.
I am an Australian citizen and my partner is Iranian with permanent residency in Australia. We are hoping to be able to pay for his Mum and sister to fly here for a holiday as he hasn’t seen them for 12 years.
We are working on the tourist visa application but we have never done one of these before and we aren’t sure if Immigration grant them easily or if there’s extra things we should be doing?
We are supplying all the requested documents, ID, proof of savings and income, health insurance etc
Id be grateful for any advice from someone from Iran who has gotten a tourist visa to visit Australia
So I’ve recently discovered Iranian cinema and wow, truly a beautiful world out there. I want to watch more movies, but I can’t seem to find anywhere to watch them. So I wanted to ask if there any free website I can watch them with English subtitles?
