What do I do with olibanum

I have no idea. Yes, I could ask the family but that would be embarrassing. How is olibanum salt used in cooking? The English language google just talks about frankincense oils for hippy shit and my farsi is only as good a a one year old kid.

I do the cooking because modern families etc... I can work out something to do with the persicum, blue poppy, kaloonji, and sumac. Well tbh apart from sumac I may struggle but at least they look like good. But for the life of me I can't work out what to do with olibanum... Are they trolling me?

It's getting desperate. Need help otherwise I'll need to ask auntie what to do.

Or am I an idiot and it's just a magical anti aging serum and not for cooking? I need a sister to help me out

Going to Iran for 4 to 6 weeks. What are some good apps to download prior to going?

As above. Do people have some good recommendations? I've heard Snapp is good like Uber. Anything else that will make life easier? Like spending money securely, etc.

I got a VPN too.

Also advisable to get anything like an Iranian eSim? So I can sms use data etc, or may need the number for the apps?

Any help appreciated!

Thinking about moving to Iran as an Iranian-American. What should I know?

Hello everyone! I’m an Iranian-American in my 20s (born in the US) considering moving to Iran, and I’d appreciate any advice on these topics:

  • Transferring Money: Given Iran’s banking restrictions, how do people typically bring funds into the country? Is it mostly physical cash from places like Turkey or Armenia, or is there another workaround?

  • Military Service: I’m male and know I’m subject to conscription. I have an exemption for 6 months per year but I still legally must do military service if I stay longer than that in one year. I’ve heard about exemptions for only children (I am the only child) or paying your way out. If anyone’s gone through this process, I’d love details.

  • Buying Property: I’d like to purchase an apartment in Tehran (or another big city). Based on listings I’ve seen on Divar, are prices like 4–10 billion Toman (roughly $50k–$100k) realistic for a good part of Tehran? Also, how do property taxes, utilities, and any potential capital gains taxes work?

  • Bureaucracy & Government Benefits: How complex is dealing with Iran’s government systems (subsidies, gasoline cards, taxes, etc.) if you’re moving back after being abroad? I have my Iranian passport and identification documents, but I have not interacted with the Iranian bureaucracy outside of the consulate in Washington. I am especially concerned about the fact that my Persian language skills are not amazing. I know Persian from my parents, and I think if I lived in the country, I would improve very quickly but when I read legal documents or the news, I need to Google search some advanced vocabulary. I don't know how it works to fill out legal paperwork and those kinds of things if I am a non-native speaker. I don't want to be taken advantage of.

  • Cost of Living: What should I budget for a comfortable family life (education, food, healthcare, etc.)? I understand some things are cheaper if you have foreign currency income, but I’m trying to plan realistically how much a middle-class family spends. I am drawn to the idea of saving money now and retiring or semi-retiring early in Iran. I work in IT, but I imagine it may be hard to get a job in that field in Iran if you are not a native Persian speaker. I have no problem working part-time as like a Snapp driver or a tutor or that kind of thing to make my savings go farther. How feasible is it?

For context, I’m drawn to living near extended family and enjoying Persian culture. My girlfriend is also a child of immigrants (from Russia) and neither of us have any family here besides our parents. Both of us find life in the US isolating and too materialistic, and we’d like our future kids to grow up close to family (mine is in Iran and hers is in Russia) and to have a stronger connection to our roots. If we get married, she could easily get Iranian citizenship and we could move back to Iran. it would be easier than moving to Russia since it's harder to get your spouse Russian citizenship than Iranian citizenship. That said, we’re not religious, and I’m concerned about how we’d adjust to Iranian laws. Thanks in advance for any insights or advice!

heavy embellished fabric

i'm looking for a well known fabric shop that sells embellished fabric that i can make into a lehenga, i live in denmark, any leads? i just want to buy the fabric i dont want to get it stitched (wouldn't mind) maybe something similar to what i've shared. I really like the iranian/arab work because they're blingy and more embellished, the indian ones i've seen are printed (not what im looking for at all) and the “formals” have those tacky sequins :/

How do you say “will you be my valentine ?” In Farsi?

I’m English and my other half is Iranian. I was thinking of making them a hand made Valentine’s Day card but I wanted to make sure the grammar is correct. Any suggestions would be of a huge help! I’m trying to improve my Farsi but it’s quite difficult, more so trying to write it than speak 😅🙏 or if you have any other sweet phrases that would be more culturally appropriate, I’m definitely open to those too!

I have a cousin in Iran I would like to send maybe an iPod/ipad, some movies/music and some books to help with English. I’ve only ever sent stuff through my dad but I wanted to know if there are different avenues or issues I might run into if I send stuff overseas.

Unpopular opinion: Central Iran is superior

Central Iran(Isfahan, yazd, Kerman) is honestly the best part of Iran. Im from both kerman and yazd and ppl from central Iran are involved in waay less drama, are much nicer, better looking, have the best history, and it’s the real Iran. All the drama you hear from persians it’s rarely from central iranians. God bless🙌

Curiosity of your Pakistani neighbour.

Salam dear neighbours. I am engineer from Pakistan who graduated from the UK last June. I had to come back to Pakistan for a few reasons. Now I want to go back for a Master - in EU or UK.
I have met several Iranian People in UK and Turkey (mutual friends) and I have really enjoyed their company. Very chill and progressive people.

I have noticed one thing is that, there are many Iranian people who study in European countries. It's probably much less than Pakistani people. How do people finance their studies abroad? Scholarships or what? Is there a guide you guys have which I can also follow and get to study abroad again? I am sorry if my question sounds vague but I am just intrigued that the Iranian people I know or see or hear about, everyone is somewhere in Europe or USA. That is the reason why I wanted to know how do most people get out of Iran to study abroad? Therefore I thought maybe asking in this sub would help my curiosity.

I have also seen a similar trend in Turkish people, many people go for Masters degree in Germany or Netherlands, again I don't know how people finance them because they are expensive to an extent.

TIA.

Did reddit ban r/2iranic4you?

Durud bar hamegi! Has anyone noticed that sub went private? I realize that it was a small community and didn’t showcase our best and brightest, but as a shitpost enjoyer I’d be a little sad if it becomes inaccessible. I’m wondering if there’s any news about this you might know of. Merci

How Did Iran Maintain the Exchange Rate of the Rial at 42,000 for 8 Years?

I’ve been googling Iranian economy and noticed that the official exchange rate for the IRR been fixed at roughly 42,000 per USD for the past 8 years. Given significant inflation, sanctions, is it so or the google finance is an inaccurate source of information?

Consulate services in Canada

Hi all.

I'm an Iranian student currently living in Canada. My passport is set to expire by mid September, and I was wondering how to renew it? Is there a consulate in Canada for Iranians? I'd really appreciate some guidance.

Thanks.
