I looked for a definitive answer myself, but came up short, so I ask the experts here: Can I install and run both the Stable version and Development Preview of Gimp side by side on the same system? I'd like to, but I obviously don't want it to mess with my Stable installation. If there are any preparation steps necessary, please do share. Thanks.
:) it was fun
And the original image keeps shrinking when I paste it? I checked- both have a fixed aspect ratio of 5,000 x 3,000. Not sure what the auto-shrink button on the side does, but I tried this both with it checked and unchecked, and... I'm lost.
Essentially, I am trying to make a map with some special effects already provided by a premade template, but for the life of me I have no clue why my image always starts off small in the lefthand corner, and I'm not sure how to resize it either... Help?

maybe I been searching wrong. I can't seem to figure it out.
I recently tried to install the Gimp 2.10.32 version to study editing images, but every time i go to start to learn from Youtube, my gimp (First Image) don't show the configurations the same way was the other one (Second image), and every other person how teach the use of the program in my language (portuguese), have this same configurations in the second image, while mine don't show them . It's because of my version or some configuration of the program itself?
I know that I can evoke a given filter using a procedure, but I'm not sure how I apply a given blending option.
Given something like:
first: plug-in-photocopy 1.8 1.0 0.999 1.0 - Blend:Dodge - 100 opacity
second: plug-in-cartoon 50.0 0.600 - Blend:Merge - 100 opacity
third: plug-in-emboss 90.0 90.0 12 - Blend:Overlay - 50 opacity
fourth: plug-in-antialias
What would be the equivalent script for batch processing?
Hello. So, sometime ago, I scanned a whole guidebook that I want to translate, and each page ended up being different sizes. I finished and exported to .png several pages already, but they don't have the same size.
How could I batch resize the .xcf file (with its layers and all) to a specific template size? (Such as A4, for example) Can you do that, or should that be done with the .png file?
Oh, and by the way, I want to turn all the exported .png pages into a single .pdf. I guess that wouldn't be a problem in terms of size, right? Thank you!
"increase relative size" doubles it and "decrease relative size" sets it half. I want that mechanic but softer, in a middle term like x1.5 - /0.75 or something like that. Currently is too abrupt.
As someone who often uses Graphic Art Programs like Photoshop and Pixlr I have been shopping for alternative photo editing software I can have saved and use offline.
The ONE issue stopping me from using GIMP is it's insistence on using Anti Aliasing not just as a Default Setting but sometimes Locked with tools such as Selection.
For someone who often creates Pixel Art this is a mess to deal with...
If anyone has any tips or can provide help it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm trying to get an "impression" of a stamp without getting ink on it. (It has not been inked since the 1950s or so, 1961 at the latest.) I tried various physical ways (all failures), and I decided the obvious answer is to scan it and then use GIMP to turn that scan into a two-color indexed image. Turns out that's not so simple either.
This scan is already flipped properly, but while the image is obvious to the eye, selecting by color isn't going to work, and I don't see any automated way to get a crisp image here. Is there a way?
Any decent way to do Oval shaped text wrap? All the tutorials I find are for circles. The main problem im having is that When I put the text along the path, it wraps slightly to the side, I need it to be directly on top (and also on the bottom) but when I go to rotate its kinda out of whack. AGHHH why is it so complicated hahahaha
Hi. I am a total noob when it comes to using Gimp. I can just about use mspaint. The problem I am having is that I want this image with an invisible background so I can copy and past it to any background I desire. I have looked at utube videos and understand how to cut it out but it would take me ages and my hand is not very steady. Was there not an option to grab/cut/copy a certain object then cut and paste in older versions of Gimp ?. I am trying to use the correct terms, sorry. Any advice would be much appreciated. I still sometimes use ufraw-gimp which used to satisfy my needs (because of my trusty old 5D mark III), but I have since moved to mirrorless Canon cameras and ufraw became instantly obsolete because of CR3 format. For a moment I used rawtherapee, but I found it aggressively collection-oriented and cluttering my storage, plus somehow doesn't like the files produced by R7 and R10.
Did anyone experiment with some lightweight plugin that basically "develops" the file, just like ufraw did or even simpler?
when I upload custom thumbnails, youtube compresses them to a point were they are blurry as hell, the files are 1280 by 720, are under 2mb and are png files but Im really annoyed at how blurry they look when copmpared with other youtubers, Is there something Im doing wrong?

I've been playing around with Scheme scripts and have managed to automate a few routine tasks successfully. Now I'd like to be able to pick a sample-point then automatically apply either the black or white point change to it as part of a script. Annoyingly I can't find anything after a lot of searching and it's not obvious (assuming it's possible) how to do this using the gimp-drawable levels procedure.
Is this possible or do I need to find another method?
I have a really big image I have loaded into GIMP. The total dimensions are 65535x65535 pixels.
But everytime I try to export the image, it is corrupted, there are no height or width infos in the properties and I can't open it anywhere
These are my settings. I don't know if a higher compression level could fix it, if the image is generally just too large or if there's something else I could try
