I've used both. I kinda wanna know whether people really prefer one over the other
I've looked at tutorials on Youtube and when I follow those guides to the best of my abilities (the tutorials are a few versions old) the letters just cross over itself and look warped with big chunks of each letter missing. Does the font I choose have anything to do with it? Are some fonts better for this or anything like that?
I want to make a circular profile image with my channel name along the border.
I know this is going to be a revisiting of the subject but...
Has anyone designed a good UX for this yet? I've been trying to learn to love GIMP but the interface is prohibitively counter-intuitive and drifts far away from DMMT and KISS.
Is anyone working on this because it's a deal breaker every time I try to like it.
Why doesn't this subreddit have a profile photo? If you think it should have one, do you have any suggestions?
I'm not sure what it's called but the area to adjust the various tools (see photo) moved from directly below my tool box (which is on the left side of the screen) to the right side of the screen. I'd like to move it back to the left side but don't know how. to be more specific, The area I'm speaking of has things like brush size, aspect ratio, angle, etc. This is how to scale the tool you're using. I hope this is not too confusing.
With the release of GIMP 3 RC1 the GEGL plug-ins are not accessible from script-fu anymore.

So I'd like to move from my script-fu scripts to python3. I've read this tutorial https://testing.docs.gimp.org/2.99/en/gimp-using-python-plug-in-tutorial.html, but still have no clue how, it works.
Please point me in the right direction, how to migrate this script-fu to python3

I'd like to make a video, and in it, there would be a song that would last about 7 minutes. Over the duration, I want a picture to fade completely black by the end of the song.
Is this achievable using GIMP or how can I do this?
https://www.gimp.org/news/2024/11/06/gimp-3-0-RC1-released/
Today (after some delays caused by web hosting/infrastructure problems at GNOME and at Microsoft!) GIMP 3.0 RC1 is released.
This is not the final 3.0 release. We hope it's about ready, so if there are problems please file bug reports. You can go to www.gimp.org and scroll to the bottom for a link to file a bug. You have to register an account, but that way you can be notified when the bug is analyzed and even fixed!
This release brings us a step closer to GIMP 3.0 today!
Hello, thank you for your time.
The last time I owned or used a computer for photo editing was 2010, I tried to transition from photoshop to GIMP in a digital photography course, I thought I remembered it going ok. Now I realize I am so extremely phone habituated everything on a laptop is foreign and hard, and I have no memories to help with GIMP. I've been trying to use forums, reddit, chat gpt to bushwack my way through, but I feel like I could be going about everything wrong. And I have more than a hundred images to prepare.
Open each individual image (loose gemstones and jewelry)
use the dropper to establish either white or black depending on the background, crop it for aesthetic/closer framing and uniform dimensions
maybe a little sharpening or whatever, but I can't edit too much because the color should closely represent the gem, and definitely can't make it look more saturated, better the customer be pleasantly surprised than feel deceived.
Then there's this- I've been asked to enhance or altogether fake a particularly dark shadow cast in front of/below all the stones. Kind of like this, but darker. For photos I took I tried to do it with the lighting to potentially mask in, but I didn't take many.
I've found a few tutorials to create shadows, but all are behind the subject, and some of these photos have wood or velvet instead of plain white or reflective black backgrounds. Chat gpt tried to give me a step by step but I'm not following well, it seems like it shouldn't be so complicated. I would really appreciate any tips for this.
And finally, I am ashamed I haven't figured this out, I'm unsure how I save them all to be uniform and high enough quality for a website offering fine jewelry. The batch I thought I did, saved as jpeg, thought I had formatted them the same, but when I opened them, not so. I see a plugin that might be what I need, but I thought the same with BIMP for the white balancing similar bunches and was wrong. I dont want to be willynilly downloading plugins like the big internet illiterate baby I have become.
While I would love for someone who knows what to do to spell it all out, even just some confidence i'm on the right path/tutorial/tool would help me a lot
I have GIMP 2.0 and I'm importing a png changing color and exporting to png but I get pixelation on the exported image.
I suggest that the moderators organize a contest for the GIMP reddit banner, let say opened for 1 month...
Rules to be defined (may be here?)
I think we do need something more... eye-catching than the actual one if I can say that.
What do you think?
Wanted to make my own version of this scene from Rick and Morty:
In many of my projects it would be very useful to see the properties of all layers as a list or table. In know how to check the properties layer by layer, but not, how to see a list.
For the first time ever, I got this stupid glitch that crashes my whole PC with BSOD (Watchdog violation). I tried re-install it and updated my graphic driver (Nvidia) yet the problem persists.
Please help me.
Done in Gimp. More concept from FF5.
I've worked with Gimp for years on small projects to create promotional pictures for my books, and I've never had problems with this before. Usually, I begin by creating the bottom layer with my background, then I add a layer to include a book cover and/or verbiage. This time, however, when I added the layer, it was transparent as usual, but it really isn't since I can't see the bottom layer through it. I must have accidentally clicked or unclicked something, and I can't figure out how to put it back to rights. I've done Google searches but haven't found the answer yet.
Here is my screen:
Why can't I see the background? I've tried messing with alpha channels, masks, visibility, etc. Sigh. I'm stuck.
Thank you for whatever help you can give me.
What effects are.being used to create the red portions in this image?
Hello,
I am a New GIMP User,
I downloaded the "Apple TV - 4K" "Product Bezels" .psd files from https://developer.apple.com/design/resources, and I have my logo and banner.
How do I put my logo in the app section and the hero in the background
It's isn't responding to anything that I'm doing, it isn't even showing a loading icon and my computer isn't saying that it isn't responding, If theres a fix, or a way to manually crash gimp, it'd be much appreciated,
Hi, I would like to ask you help regarding to the following problem. (As I want to minimize the costs I had to make some extra steps to get the results) So, I decided to make some planetary images through my telescope with my smartphone. Generally, planetary imaging is the opposite of the Deep Sky Imaging: instead of long exposure to get every details, hundreds of images have to be taken with sort exposures, and the images will be statistically analyzed and stacked to get the best results. To do this, I used my Xiaomi 13T Pro and the app called MotionCam (Demo version) This is capable to capture raw video, but only 5sec long, as I am only using the demo. I was using ISO50 and 30 FPS. This enebles to see the Jupiter as a disc with some details. The app can extract the frames as DNG as well, but only 1/5rd of them:demo version restriction. Anyway, I made about 10, 5s long video, and extracted about 30 dng files from each video. Then I renamed them to avoid later problems. But I wanted to crop the images, as the majority(98%) of the picure was still darkness. So I opened the 1st one. As this is a DNG, I had Rawtherapee already installed,, and I know, I simply have to close the Rawtherapee, and Gimp will open it to me. Now, I wanted to open the rest as a layer, but I realised: I have close RawT. every time as a new image loading. I set a macro on my budge Chinese maus to click every 2 sec till I do some other action, and it worked, but I hope you see the problem here.
How should I set the things up, to avoid this?
(later I saved the layers as individual tiff pictures(using a plug-in) , and stacked them using Autoatakkert!
Thanks for your help!
