Some of my collection

This is some of my euphorbia collection. I’m trying to keep my species grouped together this year. Zone 9b in California ☀️ What others should I add?

Does anyone know of a resource that lists all viable Euphorbia hybrids?

I’ve been interested in growing hybrids from seed I’ve pollinated myself. So far my most successful hybrid is Euphorbia obesa x bupleurifolia; it seems to very readily cross, and the seedlings grow particularly fast (I’ve had seedlings begin flowering in under 12 months since germination. The plant itself if an interesting visual combination of the forms of its two parent species.

I’ve tried experimenting a bit more in terms of the species combinations that can be crossed, often times coming up unsuccessful. I was wondering if anyone knows of a resource that lists all known viable species combinations that can be crossed? I can’t seem to find this information online, in addition to the fact that hybrids don’t seem to be a popular offering from nurseries, other than maybe E. japonica (E. susannae x bupleurifolia).

Curious to see if this information can be found anywhere. If, as I suspect, there isn’t a consolidated list anywhere online, I would love to start a crowdsourced document here on the subreddit; users could submit species combination that they’ve successfully pollinated and sowed, along with photos and tips.

Please send over any information that you know of, and let me know if any of you would be interested in participating in a crowdsourced list!

First Euphorbia

I was recently gifted my first euphorbia (Euphorbia milii ‘Jerry’s Choice’). Just wanted to share a pic and see if anyone has any tips or advice. I’m fairly experienced with cacti and haworthias, but never had a euphorbia.

It’s in a 4-inch terracotta pot, 1:1 cactus mix and pumice. Added a few bits of horticultural charcoal. Top dressed with akadama and red lava rock. It will be living in my south facing window sill, unless it needs full sun? I live in Arizona, so I worry about the sun’s intensity here. It can consistently get over 100 degrees F (37 degrees C) during the summer days.

Thank you for any advice and I’m really looking forward to seeing this plant grow!

Rules Change! And... moderator applications?!

Hey awesome people of r/Euphorbiaceae ! I'm writing this post for a few reasons. First, a super fun list (I'm sure you all LOVE lists!).

  1. A few rules have been edited to be more specific. Please read the sub rules at your earliest convenience!
  2. A new rule, Field Collected / Poached Plants has been added. I also moderate our spiritual sibling sub, r/Caudex, and implemented this rule over there last year. I think it's about time we have a formal rule on this sub as well. For more information about this, please read my post in r/Caudex .
  3. We are now getting close to 13,000 subreddit members! That is amazing! Since we have so many users and so many posts, I have changed rule 4 to be mandatory, mainly for better searching capabilities. Rule 4 is "Flair your posts". I have changed it on the back end to make post flair mandatory for posting in this sub. I am also totally open to suggestions on more post flairs, so if your post doesn't really align with the existing ones, please pick the closest one and write in the comments what flair should be added.

Secondly and equally important, since we have surpassed 12k members and are approaching 13k, I am beginning to look for a junior moderator (or possibly 2 moderators!) to help sort through our mod queue and make sure this sub is running smoothly. I have no intention of stepping down as the main moderator, but in the event that I'm on holiday/vacation, feeling sick, or any other number of reasons, it would be nice to have 1 or 2 trustworthy, reliable Redditors to help out!

  1. Moderation experience is always helpful but not 100% necessary. Specifically, Reddit moderation.
  2. Experience with Euphorbiaceae is an absolute must-have.
  3. Must be a member of the sub who has positively contributed (positive karma, mixture of comments and posts). That means, don't just join the sub to be a mod (I can see how long you've been here!).
  4. Any formal education in botany, horticulture, etc would be great, but it's definitely not needed. Hands-on experience with plants is needed!

I will pick one or two people to be moderators as a 2 week trial period, and at the end of the trial if all goes well, r/Euphorbiaceae will have a new mod or two. It's hard to say how long the process of me selecting some folks will take, but I will be messaging applicants to see if it's a good fit!

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR "APPLICATION" TO BE A NEW MOD HERE:

All of that being said, if you are interested in being a moderator here (and fit the 3 points of description above), please send a Mod Mail. DO NOT SEND A CHAT, DO NOT SEND ME A DIRECT/PRIVATE MESSAGE. If you send a chat message or send me a direct private message, you will be disqualified.

Please include a brief couple of sentences as to why you want to join me as a moderator. I will go through everyone's applications and reach out to any folks who I feel would make a great addition!

This should go without saying, but being a Reddit moderator is not a paid position, nor is it a particularly prestigious one. If this still interests you, please send a mod mail to this sub!

Thanks everyone!

Euphorbia Horrida not rooting

Had this milk barrel for about 4 months, I thought it was a cactus and got directed here. Not once has it rooted in soil. It responds based on how much light it gets but that’s all I’ve seen from it. any idea how to get it to root? Is it dead? I am new to this
