Brazil PU Portugal?

Hi folks, first time player. Playing as Spain in 1725. Just conquered mainland Iberia and parts of North Africa after going to 2nd war with Portugal. After the war ended, something strange happened which I don't quite understand. All the area of Portuguese Brazil turned into Brazil, and Brazil extended into Brazilian Maghreb (all the North African area that was under Portugal). A few of the (now former) Portuguese islands in the Pacific are now part of Brazil. All that's left of Portugal is two islands - Acores and Madeira. And when I go to Portugal's diplomacy screen, it says Portugal is in a "Personal Union under Brazil", although it also says Portugal is "Brazil's ruler".

It seems like Portuguese Brazil got some kind of instant independence after Portugal got so weakened, but how did Brazil take over Portuguese territory in Africa and the Pacific islands? And how can Portugal be the ruler of Brazil yet be the junior in the PU?

Do I need to complete "Trading blood for gun" mission to start my European invasion as Inca?

My tech is currently:
- Admin: 13
- Diplo: 14
- Mil: 13

The country with the highest tech that I have come to contact with is Spain with 15, 14, 14 respectively; so there's some country out there with even higher tech, but I find the waiting for tech up somewhat frustrating and I'm not even sure if i can catch up in time.

Also does completing "Trading blood for gun" gives you map vision because I see Laith in his video has quite a few provinces in England, Portugal, Spain, etc revealed to him before his first invasion.

There's also a big blob of New Spain in Central America.

Is there a historical reason for HRE provinces to give so much ae?

My HRE knowledge isn’t very deep, so I don’t know if the HRE was actually treated like this, or if this is just for balancing the game so that the HRE doesn’t become like 3 countries by 1500.

Reforming the Inti Faith stopped me being an Empire?

Am I doing something wrong? I havent played in ages and decided to try an Inca playthrough, and it was going pretty well right up until I tried to reform the faith.

I had adjacency to New Granada - a Spanish colonial state - and so I tried to reform the religion. However, when I did so I seem to get downgraded massively in government rank and changed into a republic!

  • I am no longer an Empire rank, I am now just a Duchy!
  • I lost my (quite nice) heir thanks to switching to republic
  • Previously accepted Andean cultures (thanks to Inca cultural union) are no longer accepted

Not sure what I am doing wrong here - I don't want to be a republic, and I don't want to lose all my accepted cultures. I was expecting to be able to form the Andean Empire (https://eu4.paradoxwikis.com/Monarchy#Andean\_Empire). What am I doing wrong here?

Would eu4 help someone like strat games?

So I recently posted on here asking if I could learn the game without tutorials. My next question is, could I get someone that doesn’t like strategy to play and enjoy it?

Basically for context I really wanna get my gf into strategy games like eu4. I’m new to the game so I thought it would be fun for me and her to try and figure out together. I tried to get her into HOI4 but that didn’t work out and she said she didn’t like it. She told me she would be willing to try this one so I wanna know if it’s worth trying. Like I wanna know if it’ll be too complex and overwhelming to enjoy it.

Unclear on why I cannot dismantle right now.

So, I'm leading the league war as Brandenburg. I, or a vassal of mine control all of the enemy elector capitals. Holland got an unit on Liege's capital a day before I could, the same with Wien, but cologne. Cologne is my ally, Holland is just a league member. Why can't I dismantle? And if I can't, is there anything I can do short of hoping that an enemy will reconquer, and then siege them myself?

Are mercenaries actually insanely good or is army composition just weird?

Its the 1630s and I have just lost a game as Prussia due to an insane death spiral which originally started with Poland intervening in my war with Denmark and not being able to really keep up with the hordes of men and the wars that followed by my worthless greedy neighbors.

Now during the war with Poland I had 2 armies that were 30K big which consisted of 11inf, 4cav, and 15 artillery, and it felt like my army was super inefficient relative to what Prussia with max militarization, Eco+Quality, and the Discipline protestant thing should be. While it definitely didnt help I was outnumbered like 3-1 in every fight and fighting isolated stacks was impossible, I noticed that in the next war I was using 48 mercenaries that were mostly infantry and had at max 5 artillery and maybe 4 cavalry and these guys were SHREDDING the invaders to ridiculous degrees.

Are mercenaries legitimately good despite their dogass compositions? Or is it perhaps (most likely) a problem with my army comps?

Help for a beginner

I’m new to EU4 (coming over from HOI4) and I’ve been trying to do a Portugal colonial campaign (as I’ve been told that it’s an easy nation for beginners). I can’t seem to get over 100 years into the game without going into a debt spiral. I’ve tried following Red Hawk’s guide and also playing around myself but I can’t progress too far without going bankrupt. Any tips for a new player on managing debt, and also for a Portugal campaign in general?

HRE Religious League war - how to lose on purpose

I am Catholic Brandenburg, I very large with 900 dev and I am the HRE Emperor. However, Ottomans are massive and on the Protestant side of the League war. I have about 50% religious unity and want to convert to Protestant anyways.

Previously to the war, when I tried to convert to Protestantism manually, it kicked me out of the HRE Emperor role, so I lost the benefits of that, I was no longer an empire, and I had way too many states for my resulting capacity (lost 400 capacity). So, I undid that by loading my save.

Now I am in this League war which is going steady at 0% draw for many years. I am thinking it would be great if I could surrender and have Protestantism enforced on me and the HRE so that I can change religion without losing my seat the Emperor. Would that work?

Achievement number needs to get lowered

I think paradox needs to remove achievements like play a american tribe till 1821 because it is so boring and steals your time. Why do they add meaningless life quality lowering avhievements like frankfurt to andes? I think nobody sane person should make an unfun and boring achievemnt like this. It is not hard tho but it steals your time

Game crashes after peace deal. 1.37.5

https://preview.redd.it/8rsgnhg960he1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3241a81008173bb99071b975e5ccb060ea9e8971

The situation: as Ottomans i started war against Mamluks to create Egypt Eyalet (take Capital and control it for 3 years). I occupied every provinces and during this war, Ethiopia also declared war on Mamluks. I completed mission to create Eyalet as part of my Empire and Ethiopia conquest automatically continued already against me. And after peace deal with them, game is just crashing. White peace, reparations, any type :(

Is it possible to solve it? Or it is GG WP?

Ideas for a historical/roleplaying England/Great Britain game?

So, most people will say Maritime or Naval. I want to roleplay but I don't want to waste an idea slot. If anything I might pick Maritime because I feel they are slightly less redundant for a Great Britain game, as they already get lots of buffs to naval combat.

In my last game I picked:

Espionage/Expansion/Infrastructure/Quality/Offensive/Administrative/Influence... I don't think I got to the last idea group.

I like taking Espionage instead of Exploration and simply stealing maps from Portugal and Castile. It makes sense since England was always behind those two colonial powers but trying to catch up, and it gives some nice buffs to privateering and advisor costs as well. The Administrative and Influence become mandatory in the late game when you are already quite big and are running out of Governing Capacity.

Any other ideas?
