This is the home of Bike Polo on reddit.

Cycle Polo (or Bicycle Polo or "Polo-Vélo", French or "Radpolo", German, etc..) is a team sport, similar to traditional polo, except that bicycles are used instead of horses. There are two versions of the sport defined by the surface type: grass and hardcourt. In both versions, teams of players ride bicycles and use mallets to strike a small ball into a goal.

Tested: Winnwell cold weather balls, big rip approved

If anyone is looking for true cold balls for sub-freezing temps, we have been playing with these Winnwell hockey balls in SLC: https://amzn.to/4hup7X6

Ignore the listing description; the yellow ones are actually cold balls meant for 0-32ºF. They stay soft and dont break. The pink ones are for cool weather but also will hold up in freezing temps too – just are a little harder. Compared to Mylec hockey balls, these are way softer and more durable for cold temps.

Maybe someone can figure out who the manufacturer is and we can get them to make a polo version? They say made in Taiwan.

Utility of pivots

Are pivots a crucial skill to learn for current meta and gameplay? Should newer players be focusing on this? Most veteran players don’t have the fancy moves and rely more on The Basics- court awareness, choosing good lines, shooting accuracy.

Cold weather balls

What balls are y’all playing with in 35 Fahrenheit and below temps? Is quantity over quality the real move?

Max power vs Enforcer 13

Hello!

I am looking to upgrade my polo bike from an Ad Astra frame to a newer style frame. For a big guy 191cm 95kg what would be a good fit? I would like to ride 26inch for faster handling but Max Power claim 700c is better for taller people.

Anyone that has any experience?

Thanks in advance!

Tips?

Any tips on starting a club? I moved to a new city without polo and think it could be a good fit but have only played a couple times.

Northern illinois polo

I have an opportunity to build a semi permanent court. I used to play back in the day, is the sport growing at all? I'd love to play again but hate driving into Chicago. What's the interest out there. I'm talking about the West side of Lake County.

Hayes dominion A2

The dominion a2's are on a wild sale right now. I have a4's on my mountain bike and they're far and away the best brakes I've ever used- but too spendy for a polo bike. I'm tempted to try to try the a2's but worries that the 2pots just won't have the same jam as 4 pots. Anyone ever tried them for polo? Thoughts / opinions?

just started playing! buying secondhand & solo skills practice advice...

would be grateful if anyone could share any useful skills exercises for solo practice (& if you have any videos you'd recommend to accompany it, that would be amazing)

trying to get a secondhand mallet and ball to practice alone but finding it trickier than i thought to figure out where to get it online (i'm in london), and if i'll have to build it up rather than just buying a complete mallet. any recs for this would also be appreciated!

how do bike polo bikes compare to other bikes?

I'm not very experienced, but even on bikes that I have tried more times, I don't have a technical awareness of what's making the bike feel how it feels.

so I wondered where to ask, and is thus the only or most active online group / place for questions?

What should I go with?

Hi. New to bikepolo, literally borrowed my friends setup for 10min before their game and now I want in.

However I like my main bike to run it on court, so thinking about building one on a cheap. Right now I have a couple of candidates: build old 26" mtb into a single speed bmx-style, OR get a 700c fixie and slam a front disk brake on it.

I've seem both types of builds, and interested in pros/cons of both.

Travel tips

How are folks traveling by plane with their bikes these days? Product recommendations? Hacks to protect gear? Can mallets be a carry on or is that based on if your airline agent is going to give you a pass?

Still on the hunt on FB Marketplace

Hi again, thank you all for being so helpful and patient. I'm learning that there's not a lot to choose from in my area +150 miles or so. I did find this Pure Cycles bike, and for $20 I'm thinking it's worth taking a look. Is this amount of rust worrisome? I figure I'll throw on a new chain and brake cables, plus add a rear brake and pedal straps and be good to go as a beginner. Maybe. Thoughts?
