After reading comments that a certain well known brand sometimes dupes some smaller Australian brands (as well as the yuge brands) , I wanted to make a post to try and share the love for some smaller/indie brands.
What is your “I love this Aussie make up brand and want more people to know about them”?
This is your space to rant and vent about anything on your mind right now.
All beauty and non-beauty topics allowed. Feel free to share your less salty moments too!
Which one will you pick up?
Hi! Summer is fast approaching and I have been in search of body sprays. I went to Lush and there was one I found I really liked, 'The Comforter,' which to me smells like gummies and fresh blackcurrant juice. However, I've seen and heard many remarks that this smells like cat pee. I know not everything can be trusted, but I wouldn't want to walk around smelling like cat pee. I would love to hear any thoughts on this lush body spray, or any in particular!
I'm quite a newbie when it comes to looking after my skin and I was wondering how to find a good cosmetician in Sydney?
I'm interested in asking about (1) laser hair removal (2) use of glycolic / other acids to prevent leg ingrowns and general care to prevent leg ingrowns (3) facial skin care stuff
I feel like this is not a serious enough concern to ask a dermatologist about (they're busy with people with skin cancer etc) so I should find a ?cosmetician?
Thanks :)
Hey beauty beauties!
Looking for recommendations for a hair stylist that does great work on blondes, Sydney area and its surrounds.
I'm a blonde curly girl, been out of the salon for almost a year due to finances and the occasional menty B, ready to get this mess sorted out.
Photo of my favourite colouring as an example of the blonde I want to get back to.
Big love x
I have short just above shoulder hair that’s thick, wavy, frizzy 😂😭 Looking for something quick and easy to use I’d prefer not to spend a lot on the Dyson… Is the Bondi boost worth it?
Hi all, looking for recommendations for affordable lip oils. I want something that has a pinky neutral tint and is hydrating. Happy for it have a stain component too.
Thanks!
Hey guys, I have quite weak nails. I'm an artist/crafter and especially with wire work but lots of mediums they get extra damaged. I'm looking for 2 things- a repairitive serum/oil/elixir to give them some strength and make them a bit healthier. Secondly a uv set gel polish. I bought the kmart one and loved how quickly it set (I have trouble sitting with my hands still for like 10 mins while other polishes dry and seem to always ruin them in that time (adhd brain)) and loved the strength and protectiveness it gave them allowing me to do wire work without damaging them or the polish, but it peeled off after about 2 days and I've definitely seen ads saying other brands last weeks. Money is tight for me so definitely want something that's good value for money, not something with shipping from America or similar adding like $40 to the cost. Realistically I just don't have hundreds to spend on top of the range products, but I'm sick of wasting money and time on cheap products like the kmart one to find it comes off within a couple of days or similar issues.
Hey so I've had dandruff my whole life. Head and shoulders does work well for it when I wash with it, especially more regularly- and as it says on the instructions it is meant for daily use. However my hair doesn't like being washed daily and I have autism and mental health conditions that mean I find it near impossible to wash my hair daily (sensory issues with wet hair for one) so I'd like to find a dandruff treatment that isn't designed for daily hair washing. I dunno if there's something I can apply to my scalp on the days between hair wash days or all products need to be washed out and so I need a shampoo that's not a daily one. Advice appreciated!!!
I’ve been checking figures that I follow to see if they follow Trump as I’m trying to cleanse that outta my life and I saw that the Mco ceo follows trump and his son - is she a Trump supporter?
So I ordered one of the Naked Sundays Mystery boxes (the $150 Illuminating Holiday Mystery Box) and I haven't seen many posts about them so I thought I would share what I got in mine (and what I think).
The box came with:
*75ml hydrating glow mist
*30ml water gel serum
*80ml collagen glow 100% mineral sunscreen
*100ml golded glow body sunscreen
*40ml cabana glow mineral glow serum drops in illuminating
*40ml cabana glow mineral glow serum drops in bronze
*4.5ml glow and go lip oil in salted caramel
*Their SPF brush
*A clear ready set glow cosmetics bag
I am not normally one for mystery boxes, in general I just buy the things I actually want. I feel like normally you just end up getting stuff you didn't want. I bought this because I am a pale ginger living in Australia so I use a lot of SPF and I have liked every product I've ever tried from Naked Sundays before now. I figure because all their stuff is SPF I would likely get use out of it, and I wanted to try more of their stuff.
Personally I'm really happy with this. The glow mist is one of my favourite products of all time, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that in there. All in all, I think the only item I might not use is the bronze SPF drops, just because their bronze colour is quite dark and I think it's just going to be too dark for me. I'm very keen to try the lip oil, I was curious about these because they are SPF 50.
Overall pretty happy with my purchase but keen to hear what anyone else thinks and/or if anyone else bought one of these - what did you get?
I hate wearing eye make up but am fair-haired so need it. I regularly tint lashes/brows but would like to find a mascara for a little more ooomph, without it being too thick/gluggy/un-natural. Also one that won't leave me with smudges under eyes.
Any suggested products? Preferably $15 - $40 bracket.
Thanks
Mecca has claimed the top spot in KPMG Australia's Customer Experience Excellence report this year, followed closely by Specsavers and ING.
I'm curious, how does your experience with Mecca tally with this?
Hi all, I'm level 4 on the Mecca beauty loop this year and as of today, 12th Nov 2024, am about $370 away from maintaining my current level (for which I need to spend another $370 by June 2025).
Now correct me if I'm mistaken, but seeing as I'm likely to spend that way before June 2025, it seems like a waste to spend any more than I have to on this current account AND end up renewing my beauty loop BEFORE June 2025 isn't it?
Lets say I hit that $370 in Dec this year with Christmas coming up, my level 4 beauty loop anniversary date will reset to Dec 2025 instead, losing me the extra 6 months of beauty loop level 4.
It seems to just make sense for me to make another account for a family member and spend under their names instead doesn't it? I might end up getting to like a level 2-3 or something in the meanwhile and then I'll get TWO beauty loop boxes.
I have no intention of becoming a magic circle member or anything like that because I don't need the concierge service it brings.
Thoughts?
I do not like the appearance of tubing mascara. I’m looking for a primer or powder that will ensure that my mascara does not end up on my eyelids.
I’ve been using the Anastasia brow gel for years and today it’s like dried out but still works kinda with water lol. The rest I fill in with pencil.
Is there an easier product to use for brows? Mine are pretty normal except they don’t grow as much anymore so they are thinning out.
I need easy brows and something that holds up in this heat 🥵
Thank you 😊
Are you still able to collect your birthday gift at Sephora in store, or is it online only?
Went into store yesterday and the girl at the counter looked in the cupboard for a second, turned back around, and then told me they don’t give them in store anymore and I have to order it online. She was acting strange and I have a hunch she was lying (if they were out of stock, she could have just told me??) so I wanted to double check if it’s true before I go to another store to check so I don’t have to do an online order.
What makeup Xmas gift sets do we have our eye on! I’m looking at the benefit and charlotte tilbury ones. I might buy one as a Christmas present to myself.
Do you think the sets are worth the price for the mini sizes? I kind of just want to get it so I can try a couple products before purchasing a full size. I also don’t go through makeup very quickly so minis are fine for me. Do you think the mini sets are better value for money opposed to buying the individual full size products?
Apologies, I'm going to get terminology or the sub wrong. This is way outside my lane hence asking here.
I'm after any suggestions here for a consult for both my wife and teenage daughter to help them pick a makeup brands and colours that match their complexion and style. My wife has complained a heap of times over a few years she never knows.
Is there a specific name for this kind of service for me to Google? And any advice I need to know when booking one?
Or is it something I need to just give as cash in a card?
How much should I expect to pay for this?
I'm looking at the sensible come ethical budget (ie as cheap as I can be, while still getting a decent result)
CBD / inner north of Melbourne suggestions also welcome.
In an attempt to refresh my makeup look, I splurged on a Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadow palette and am now thinking about getting an eyeshadow primer as a base.
I have sensitive and oily skin and am currently considering the Morphe eyelid primer in translucent ($15).
Wondering if anyone has used this specific product and if so, if you would recommend?
Any other eye primers you would recommend? Willing to spend up to $20 for a first try.
Thank you 😊
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but here goes nothing: I’m travelling back to my home country soon, and would like to bring back some Australian made products or anything that’s harder to find back in SEA. I’ve seen ethique and anihana recced as great shampoo bars but personally never tried them- are they worth getting as potential gifts? They both have prices reduced at woolies now so I figured why not? TIA
Has anyone had problems with this? It doesn't hold my brow hairs at all? I usually use Ardell brow glue, but thought I'd try this but severely disappointed. What am I doing wrong?!
Thanks 🥰
It has been lightly used, I tried it on once 🥰
I really wanted the 🐉 palette from Hourglass and noticed that Cult Beauty are the only ones who still have it in stock. The problem is, their reviews were shockingly horrible. I would really love this palette, but I’m scared to make such a pricey purchase just to potentially not end up receiving the product… I also noticed that they don’t do afterpay which is also a bit of a red-flag because if they did, I could dispute the issue with afterpay if I didn’t end up receiving my item.
Has anyone purchased anything from them, and how was your experience?
I’ve never used eye cream before but feel it’s about time as I can see a few lines forming. I am looking for an “anti-ageing” hydrating type eye cream for under my makeup during the day and obviously at night as well.
Preferably something you can get at chemist warehouse. The Roc creams look interesting but I can’t find many reviews on them. Anything else you love?
