My intestines are... weird...

Ok I need some help:

I used to be vegan and loved it, yet my bowels were never... right. My poops Were always weirdly soft and I was nervous bc poops is supposed to tell you about the health of your gut, as far as I understand.

I reverted back to vegetarianism due to depression and a meat eater and ex and blah blah whatever. My poops were wayyy โ€œhealthierโ€! Solid, but not like quick and easy like it was before, but also not overly hard. Ok sorry if this is getting nasty.

Iโ€™m back on my shit living like how I want to(small pat on the back to myself) but my poops are again extremely soft. Like on the verge of diarrhea. Is this common? Is my microbiome fucked up? I donโ€™t really want to eat yogurt so Iโ€™m not sure what to do. Could I be missing something in my diet?

Thank you!

Surrounded by People that hate Vegans and Recidivism

Hi,

I just joined this sub because I need help trying to make the permanent switch to veganism.

Some background here. I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease four years ago. I quickly found that meat and dairy is a huge trigger. When I eat all plant based, I feel great! I'm also very much into the ethical side of veganism also. I want to live a long time and I want to be good to the animals I love so much.

My problem is this. All of the people in my life are heavy meat eaters. To make matters worse, they are pretty damn awful about the lifestyle as well. Being treated like crap is awful especially when the way you eat can save your life. I may have to avoid too many cruciferous vegetables and apple peels, but when I followed strict plant based diet for 9 months, I had no problems with my gut. I don't want to pretend veganism is some miracle cure, but it certainly helped me.

I also get into deep, deep slumps of depression about eating meat because I'm a bleeding heart. I think about what we do to animals, I put myself there, and I lose it. I sobbed through Dominion, I screamed, I sobbed more. My partner says she wants to support me, but she hates vegan food. She wants meat and rice. We can't afford two lifestyles, so I default to her. I try my best to eat very little meat or mostly vegetables, but I truly hate it. I hate every aspect of my life when I do this. I even have to buy my own vegan soaps and candles and face wash, etc. She doesn't want that part of the lifestyle though she wants to support me. I've been plant based on and off for four years and the time I have spent off the diet has been racked with self loathing and depression. My family ostracizes me for the idea, my friends make fun of me cruelty for it, my partner doesn't want any part of the life I find is incredibly important. The only vegan I knew personally was an asshole who pretended to be a vegan so he could sexually harass the girls that worked at my job (don't ask it's a huge thing).

The tldr is that I am alone in my place and time with this and I don't know what to do because this is vitally important to my physical and mental health. Does anyone have any workable advice?

Veganism turned me into a gardener

Just a conversation with 22 year old person. Are you guys also finding it hard to date non-vegans? Food for thought- Not consuming honey helps bees. But what if you also did gardening? It will be help bees even more, reduce your carbon foot print, reduce waste, helps bugs like ladybugs (so cute!).

Vegan ingredient checker app

Hi everyone!

Weโ€™ve created a prototype of a mobile app that allows checking food packaging for non-Vegan ingredients. We think that some food ingredients are hard to identify as non-Vegan without doing research or having special knowledge. The app will identify such ingredients instantly.

The app itself is not ready yet, we first want to see if our idea makes sense.

May I ask you to check out the app prototypes by following this link? At the end of the prototype, you will be asked to complete a 2-minute survey where you can share your feedback with us.

Your opinion is really important to us.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Ok this may sound stupid, can I make a B12 spray out of a tablet?

In my place there's no B12 spray, so I thought is it ok to dissolve the B12 supplement in water and use at as a spray or as a B12 water?

Incredibly annoyingly persistent craving for pepperoni messing with my 3yrs vegan resolve

Hello, yโ€™all. Went vegan May 14 three years ago and loving it. However, Iโ€™ve been successful with destroying my non-vegan cravings for all except one really persistent one. This craving is starting to get out of control and making it really difficult to hold my resolve lately. Which is kind of seriously annoying because I know in my brain that pizzas are not worth breaking my track record but the pressure is still there.

Iโ€™m seriously struggling with cravings for specifically pepperoni pizzas. Iโ€™ve made vegan pizzas with vegan cheese multiple times. But thereโ€™s just nothing quite like a pepperoni pizzas. In fact, little Caesar pepperoni pizza was one of the last non vegan pizza I had those few years back. The last time I had anything remotely similar that really satisfied my cravings was at a vegan Blackbird pizzeria in Philly last year. Iโ€™ve moved to Alabama a few months ago (right before the virus started popping up all over). So Iโ€™m in middle of a food desert in Alabama so I canโ€™t pick any up within a reasonable distance (considering the virus) so Iโ€™m limited to ordering it online if thatโ€™s even an option.

Are there any vegan pepperoni that actually taste decent that I can order online? What kind of cheese can I use other than diaya shredded cheeses? Also ordered online? I can get vegan crust, sauce, and other toppings. Just the cheese could be better. And I just cannot find any specifically vegan pepperoni thatโ€™s actually tasting even a little similarly like pepperoni. I wouldnโ€™t mind making it if not for the fact that itโ€™s hard to find ingredients around here for that kind of vegan dishes.

Thank you for any inputs!

Some questions from a newly made vegan!

So I've been vegan for 3 full days now, I know it isn't a lot, but for someone who grew up in a meat-loving family and had health issues with vegetarianism in the past, the fact that I've made it this far without fainting is pretty good I think. Anyway, I've balanced all my meals fairly well, with legumes and beans, lots of veggies and carbs and healthy proteins.

I've found however that my digestive area is super unhappy almost all of the time, with significant bloating and discomfort, and I recently began mildly shaking, from my elbows to my fingers, my hands being the worst culprits. I know it's bizarre but I can't help but contribute it to my frequent hunger (I'm not starving myself but vegan snacks are hard to come by where I live) and lack of amino acids and vitamins generally present in meat.

Has anyone else experienced these kinds of side effects when first becoming vegan or should I be worried?

hypochondriac with ocd...washing veggies

so as the title says, i am that person who needs to wash everything and it makes it a long tedious process. i wash everything with bleach and the stuff i use and constantly wash my hands..and it makes the whole process of cooking long. because i also wait for the bleach to disinfect. i try to buy as much as i can leafy vegetables already washed, the issue is when buying tomatoes, cucumbers, etc etc.

anyone used to be this way or is? any ways to not get paranoid and expect the worst.

to add, i dont have the chance to have my own garden. i wish i could buy salads from restaurants all the time, lol but i obviously cant spend so much money on that.

i should also add i got sick before, so i dont want to be again but...i should stop being overly cautious. right?

Trying to turn vegan in a non-vegan family

Hi! This must be a common question here, so I thought this was the right place to talk about my situation! My family has always eaten meat, and probably always will. I've taken interest in veganism for about two years now, I've only ever cooked vegetarian food, but only a few months ago have I expressed loud and clear that I want to turn fully vegetarian. I didn't say the word "vegan", because I feel like they'll shut it down immediately because it's "too extreme", but that's my final goal.

Since mid-september, I've gone to college and live near campus during the week and go back home during the weekends. I bring food made by my mother(non-vegan) to eat for dinner, and for lunch I choose the vegetarian option at uni, which is usually vegan, so I guess I'm making some progress.

I feel so much happier eating vegan food, of course, but during the weekends I can't make my mom buy/make different food for me and I have to study despite wanting to cook. Furthermore, for the weekday dinners, she makes servings for me and my also non-vegan brother, so my brother would either have to eat what he doesn't like or my mother would have to spend more money and time to make separate meals for us.

Furthermore, lately I keep hearing from my grandpa and my mother that I need protein. I've used all scientific arguments against that, but my mother is the kind of old-fashioned person that still believes in myths like "dogs don't learn after they're babies" and "metabolism makes people fat", and doesn't get convinced otherwise by me because I'm young and dumb.

After I've ranted about all this... is there any way I can become vegan while depending on my mother for food, and convince her that I'll be ok despite her stubborness?? Will going to a nutritionist who says "yep, going vegan is okay" convince her?
