Just a general place to talk about pens, pen related things, and penning.
This is a community to discuss pens, get ideas for a new instrument, or advice about getting into fine pens! If you know of a merchant that is an up-and-comer to the pen world, this is a great place to drop their info.
Here are a few tips for those new to the pen world. There are a lot of different types of pens, we're not talking about a Cross, a Parker, or a Bic... no, this is about nibs "points".
Then there are fountain pens and pencils
Since you're here, you obviously like pens. Here's some other places you might be interested in:

Here are some ground rules:

after being reminded of gelly roll ink pens from another post, i was thinking back to a pen i found on a desk back in highschool. it was half used, but i cherished it. google image searching, i found it
sadly, i then discovered they stopped being made 10 years ago. i REALLY want these again. i found a little more modern version can be bought for very expensive on amazon
and lastly the currently made one by the same company which sounds like it writes badly and not smoothly at all
but then! maybe can i find a clone on alibaba? so i started looking. i THINK i found another color pen using the same body as the origianl zebra marble:
so i think that looks like the same pen body, but not the same ink obviously. on those other pages i've seen some other multi color pens, but not near as good of a color swirl. you'd get one color for a few weeks, then another color, then another color. with the zebra marble ones, you'd get more than one color at a time. it was very well blended.
man i really want this pen again.
edit: only other rainbow one that i thinks comes close
edit2: i guess i should say what i'm actually looking for here:
edit3:
well this is interesting http://thecostumerooms.co.uk/product/pastel-rainbow-gel-pen-pack-paper-poetry/
this is 100% for sure a copy of the pen body. the ink is not mixed the same. i don't live in the UK, and it looks like the online store page does not work. i can't add any to a shopping cart. must be why there is still some "in stock".
another sighting, this time a german etsy store?
https://www.etsy.com/listing/561993193/rainbow-gel-pens-pastel-gel-pens-rainbow
again, ink not properly mixed, but this seems closer to being real.
edit4: aye, so in europe they had a different brand name
rainbow neon by paper poetry
https://www.libertylondon.com/us/neon-rainbow-gel-pen-set-000587553.html
edit5: oh, i've had a big breakthrough. what i'm actually looking for is SWIRL pens, not rainbow gel pens
Raymond Geddes Swirl Gel Pen, 50 Pack (68024)
it's not the same pen style, but it's ACTUALLY good mixed ink. ok, this is good progress. so on amazon i'm getting more accurate search results, but no where else. on etsy and dhgate, i get more accurate results with "rainbow gel pen". rather, it's closer with the pen body, but no mixed ink. so funny because someone is buying them SOMEWHERE and then reselling it on amazon.

Hey guys, I fell in Love with Bastion pens and I am struggling to choose my next Pen. I started with other cheap ones which did their job, and now I’m struggling to find a nice pen to go with.
https://bastionboltactionpen.com/collections/all-products/products/bastion%C2%AE%EF%B8%8F-bolt-action-pen-blue-aluminum This one seems great although I have not held it in my hands yet.
Or maybe go with a cheaper model black carbon fiber here:

Please help me. I ‘m currently writing with a pen I don't like :(
Hello everyone! I’m hoping someone will be able to help me find an appropriate refill for a Va Laire pen I found in a desk at work! It has its original ink refill, and it doesn’t look like they make them anymore. Does anyone know which refill could work/fit for this pen?
These are my first bolt-action pens. I didn't realize pens like this existed until recently. From Amazon, so inexpensive, but quite heavy/solid, and I think they're cool looking. Two of them have tips that can supposedly break glass.
Found some lovely hand-turned pens on Etsy recently. They all take Cross-style ballpoint refills.
The owl is some very crude wood burning I did a long time ago (it's Picasso).
I'm not sure if this is the right sub to put this in, so sorry if its not!
I am currently using a Cross pen that takes refills of the 8513 variety. The current ink it has in it works fine, but has a tendency to smudge a bit if I'm writing fast as I'm a lefty. Does anyone have any advice about refills for it that would dry a bit faster? I've had a look on Amazon and I found some gel ones which are meant to be pretty good for left handed people, but they're 8523s and don't look as if they would fit.
Any help would be appreciated!
Hi All, Merry Xmas! I don't have a chance to visit any office supply stores, taking care of my father. I've read that a certain Montblanc ballpoint replacement can be trimmed to fit The Pilot G2. What is the model so's that I can order same from an online retailer. Thanks in advance.
I've kept a pen with me everyday before I leave the house for about 3 years, but they were normally just a Bic pen or whatever is convenient. This year I discovered my work has a stash of Pilot fell in love with the bold 1mm gel ink. My notebook is starting to look like a diary. Its loosely organized and some color would REALLY help but i can't carry 4 highlighters with me. I think it's time to step up my pen game, so I wrote a list of features for my Ideal pen. Except I have a couple questions first.
If it helps or if you care to comment on my ideal pen, here's the list I wrote for its idealness. I get the feeling that my list is too much to practically ask of a pen.
I know I sound pretty choosy with this post. I've attempted online research but a lot of sights assume the reader is more learned in the subject. I might just be stupid though. Any help you guys can offer would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.
Hey guys I'm sorry if this doesn't fit but I'm looking for a similar pencil to my grandfather's. It's a green metal koh I noor pencil but it hast this weird 4 pronged mechinism to hold the lead. I believe that his grandfather brought it from the mother country (Czechoslovakia).
Hey, I'm new to pens and I'm wondering if there is a solid tungsten pen.
Hi there,
I'm one half of Apt Studio and we’ve designed Kensa, the metal pen and mechanical pencil inspired by the bic ballpoint. We loved the shape which was so comfortable but hated how quickly the ink ran out or the plastic snapped. So 2 years ago we designed a pen with the same shape but machined out of metal.
Sustainability is something on everyone's mind. We're all conscious of the damage of single use plastics like straws, coffee cups, water bottles, and food packaging. But very few people think about the stationery they use everyday. We designed Kensa because we wanted to streamline the way we use pens and pencils, they're all too easily broken, lost and used up. Not many people give it a second thought to how wasteful this can be.
By no means are we the first people to design a metal pen or pencil but we are doing differently. Kensa is slim, hexagonal, minimally styled and simply but robustly engineered. There are few moving parts to go wrong and Kensa is endlessly refillable, so it should last you a lifetime. We're not charging the earth either, one of our primary goals what to make them as affordable as possible. We could sooner machine our own pens than afford a fancy Mont Blanc!
Here's a link to our Kickstarter if you're interested in adding to your stationery collection: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cowellstudio/kensa-a-slim-minimal-hexagonal-pen-and-mechanical?ref=5njglh
I know this is not the place for shameless self promotion, but we love our product and we want like minded people to love it too!
From one stationery lover, to another!
First a little background, I am a novice pen and mechanical pencil user, I have to write daily and I used to use a fountain pen but they proved too fragile for someone as clumsy as I am. I moved to roller-ball's recently on a recommendation from a friend. I got a pack of Pilot Precise V5's. While I love these pens they are really cheap in their construction and aren't really the permanent pen I was looking for. If possible I would like to get a refillable roller-ball with a similar writing experience to the Precise V5's.
Does anyone know of such a pen?
I found this really nice gold ballpoint pen with a triangular barrel. Turns out it's a collector's edition year 1993 Warner Bros Gold Triangle (chrome?) Pen. I'd really like to make use of it, so I opened it up, and now I realize that it's not working because all the ink, barely used at all, is dry. How do I go about finding a refill that fits?
