Did anyone else notice that Shatner didn’t always do his distinctive speech pattern?
When I watched the first season I thought the impressions of Shatner’s speaking patterns must have been way overblown. I swear he didn’t even do anything like it. But then I think about midway through Season 2, Bam—peak Shatner speak! Some episodes he sounded almost like he was doing a parody of himself.
I wonder what happened. Bruce Campbell thought it was just because he was trying to remember his lines (Shatner himself thought maybe that was correct) but why did it start later on? Busy filming schedule or something?
Is there a back story on why Shatner always, always, ALWAYS leans to his side while beaming down? Nobody else does it. I didn’t know if it was more than just a Shatner eccentricity like sabotaage.
It’s funny, endearing, and weird all at the same time, just like the show. I feel like he stops doing it in the movies, but don’t quote me.
It’s so well known that even a black silhouette of him leaning and everyone else standing stock straight can immediately be identified as the Star Trek crew.
Written by Robert Hammer and Gene L. Coon; Directed by Joseph Pevney
Brief summary: "On a diplomatic mission, the crew visit a planet that is waging a destructive war fought solely by computer simulation, but the casualties, including the crew of the USS Enterprise, are supposed to be real."

I’m slowly making my way through the original series with my son and so far we’ve been amazed at the quality and the depth of the fun romp that is Star Trek. A few months back we saw Spock’s Brain. Not as bad as I thought— remote control Spock was fun, so no harm done. I hadn’t seen an episode that I just didn’t like, until….. The Way to Eden. Maybe it’s because I grew up in a hippieish household but man were those Space Hippies annoying. They just kind of look annoying with cauliflower ears and broccoli hair and weird clothes (and weird clothes are the norm on Star Trek!) but when they open their mouths, oh sweet Roddenberry, the sounds that come out of them.
And then Spock starts talking their ludicrous lingo with them, made me wonder if he got his brain back after all!
And then embarrassingly, the ship gets taken over by the space hippies who outsmart the galaxy’s best and brightest.
What happened, man?
When Bones shouted to the leader, “Don’t bite that! Stop! You’ll kill yourself” I was thinking to myself, ‘Hurry! Have seconds!’
It’s a huge step down from The Lights of Zetar just two episodes ago, so what happened? Space ghosts sound dumb on paper but came out great, while space hippies on the other hand….
Let’s just say I now know why Star Trek was canceled after this season.
Do all you Herberts out there reach me? Are we One?
