Hello, I’m hoping to get some input or conversation on some good places or options to live as a staff member working on Campus.

I was previously a student but graduated and now work with the University. I am currently living in the Park Forest area but my SO are not really happy with where we are at—constantly dealing with laundry struggles, roaches, no parking, I could go on.

I’m wondering what most staff members or just locals to campus find is the best living areas that are more professional friendly and not rowdy? We are currently paying around $1200 total in rent and would like to maintain around this price point.

I’ve began looking into houses as well, but that’s a whole other gargantuan conversation.

Context:

I was keeping the same speed as the cars in front of and behind me that night. My dash cam footage shows that the police car only appeared in the distance after my speed had already dropped below 25 MPH and the SUV behind me had turned left at an intersection. It was then that the officer began following me and eventually pulled me over.

I drive a sedan that sits lower than the SUV behind me, and when that SUV was close, its headlights made all my rear-view mirrors super bright. Because of this, I felt it was safer to maintain some distance from the SUV. Unfortunately, it was a single-lane road, so I couldn’t move over to another lane to let them pass.

Reasons for Considering Court:

• Possible Mistake: Given the situation, I wonder if the officer could have mistaken my car for another.
• Financial Hardship: The fine is more than I can afford right now.
• First Offense: This is my first speeding ticket, and I didn’t intend to speed — just kept pace with surrounding cars for safety.

Do you think it’s worth going to court to ask the judge for a warning or a reduced fine? Or would it be easier to just pay it and move on? Would love to hear from anyone with similar experiences. Thanks in advance for any advice!
