I just wanted to find out if anyone feels the same/has the same issues. I really really like Cassie and the series in general. But I just wanted to know if this is a major or minor issue.
First of all, I think it's quite dissapointing that it's been a year and we only got two out of the four books which were all promised to be released last year. I get that self publishing is complicated and we get updates but it's just not what I have been promised.
Secondly, the quality of the books when they arrived at my place is horrible. Both my books are damaged immensly (probably through shipping because they are packed with zero protection). I just don't get why this is something where you would cut costs. I think that most of the people who participated in the kickstarter are collectors, like me. Otherwhise we would have just kept reading secrets of blackthorn hall online. I wanted to have a nice edition of it but my edition is in such bad state that I have no enjoyment in displaying it. All corners bent, the dust jacket is even torn in one place. I got the second book today and it was packaged in a way that one corner peaked out (of course its damaged there). It has a huge indent at the top, the pages are damaged and its dust jacket is too short, so the book peaks out (which is clearly a sign of poor production quality).
I feel so dissapointed but as far as I see there is no possibility to get your money back or replacements with kickstarters? Is anyone experiencing the same or am I just really unlucky?
Edit: thank you for all your kind comments. I will try reaching out to them in order to get replacements
When I say unpopular I mean like you would get jumped for this opinion
Edit: I fear none of these comments are controversial
Hi everyone! I'm doing my yearly re-reading (🥲) and i was thinking that I've never read any shadowhunters fanfiction sooo.. could someone recommend me some?? your personal favorite or something famous in the fandom. thank you 🤍
I was trying to complete my collection, so I searched for a used clockwork princess book in paperback in the original cover, but when it got here it's a good 3/4 of an inch taller. Do they ever make one that was the same height as the rest of them?
So you know in COHF where clary is in her idea world when they go to Edom and the flaw is that Simon isn’t there, but how is Jace there? Like if you think about it the only reason for Jaces existence is Luke being a werewolf and then valentines forcing Stephan to divorce Amantis, but in her vision Luke was a shadow hunter, so Jace wouldn’t have existed but somehow he does. Also the same issue in the other world where there’s no demons, like there’s no way for Jace to exist as we know Stephen loved amantis and wouldn’t have left her if not for valentine.
Just wanted to let everyone know that while the Kickstarter editions are going to be Kickstarter exclusive, it's been announced that Better in Black at least will be receiving paperback and e-book editions. The current plan is to release them around Christmas but it might be later.
This was announced in the latest newsletter sent to Kickstarter backers.
Why do so many people like Alec in the tv show? He's a fan favorite (Magnus too).
I'm not actually sure where to ask this, so here I am.
Any fics similar to the series Runed? By writing or world building or level of darkness? Actually does anyone had any more dark mortal instruments fics?
There's the fics if some of you have made the MISTAKE of not reading this yet.
The Books are Better
The Show is Trash
I’ve been out of the fandom for a bit so I have forgotten some details.
I know that Kit is a descendant of the first heir, Auraline. If Auraline was still alive, she would have the right to assume the throne of the united faerie courts.
However, since Kit is just a descendant does that claim get passed down to him as if he was the first heir? Or would Kits claim to the throne be pretty flimsy by this point.
I suppose even with a meagre claim at best, it is still stronger than any other character. Ash is only the heir to the Seelie throne and Kieran the king of Unseelie. Only Kit could say he had a claim to both, correct?
Also small theory… I wonder if the land of Faerie would recognize Kit as it’s rightful ruler due to intense magic associated with Auraline.
My favorite tid character😕💔💔💔
Making my way through the books and I'm almost done with city of glass. And OMFG in the first book it was excusable the second mildy annoying and in the third it's painfully obvious.
She gets nothing and if she does she gets it so slow. Like when she realized it was sebastians blood they had already told her that they only needed something he owned Alec even said a strand of hair. And when jocelyn was telling her life story she SO SLOW to get it. And so many other things where she realizes things so AGONISINGLY slow while everyone even simon at this point was running she seemed to be crawling .
Mini rant I guess and a question.
DOES SHE GET BETTER? maybe smarter?
Malcolm Fade is certainly a tragic character. When you consider that he did everything he could for Annabel, only to be killed by her due to disinformation, I begin to wonder what would happen if someone resurrected him.
I know it's unlikely to happen, but imagine if someone who felt he'd make a worthy ally with a vendetta against the Shadowhunters chose to resurrect Fade. How would Malcolm likely process all that occurred once he's pulled back from beyond death, and given how his one true love murdered him, how would he react to the thought of being dragged into another fight with the Shadowhunters knowing that betraying the Blackthorns was all for nothing?
I’m on season 2 E5. She’s barely 2 months into being a shadow hunter barely knows anything as she has learned not much if it wasn’t involved around her. But she’s acting like she’s the leader and going off to a stranger to bring her mother back. When a 400+ warlock said it’s dark dangerous magic and he refuses to do it. I get that losing her mother is devastating and hard but I also wouldn’t want to be messing with magic that I barely know. I mean Luke’s who’s been in that world far longer than you didn’t even try. Then her and Jace are just okay. I’m not in love with the coupling. It just happened so fast imo no real build up. I haven’t read the books yet I’m slowly getting around to it.
I can't remember everything, but is kinda of a Cinderella story like Ever After: a cinderella story i guess. Alec is like a slave ( because of the actions of his parents) but he disguise as a noble and meet Magnus, who is a king/prince. Alec have scars in his back.
I’m very curious to hear what you have to say
Cassandra Clare and Holly Black wrote a crossover story, NOT FOR HUMANS, and some characters from Blacks book Tithe were mentioned in City of Bones. At the time this made it clear their books took place in the same world. But Clares new books with the Seelie/Unseelie Courts don't have the same King and Queen as Blacks do, which now makes me wonder if the crossover was just a bit of fun and not canon.
To clear this up, I was wondering if there are multiple Seelie/Unseelie Courts in the Fae world, or is it clear now that their books don't take place in the shared universe.
Sorry if this is the wrong place for this- it's a really bizarre ask! I'm making a silly PowerPoint presentation for a party and my topic is how I realized I was genderqueer. Funnily one of the pivotal moments in this was when I saw some behind the scenes footage of the Shadowhunter's cast training and was like "I want to look like that" lmao. The clip that really hit home was Matthew Daddario maybe a few others doing push-up handstands or something and their back muscles were crazy. I feel like it might have been on Instagram stories or something obscure like that but it was made into a gifset which circulated the fandom for a bit. I thought it would be fitting to put that on the slide but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone remember what I'm talking about?
I just finished TLH and I love how CC handled Matthew’s sexuality. While I think that centering queer stories of coming to terms with one’s sexuality and coming out is important, I love when queer people just exist and it’s just a part of who they are. I think that Magnus is also a pretty good example of this but it feels a little different bc the freedom of his sexuality almost becomes one of his main characteristics. I do really like that we see Anna as a proud lesbian and the stories of struggling to be proud in Alex, Mark, Alastair, Ari, etc. However, I just love to see a bisexual man just exist with pride, his sexuality only coming up when it’s relevant, without it being his defining characteristic.
So happy to be back to this universe after 15 years away. I just listened to all three books this month.
Queen of Air and Darkness was pretty good, although I feel it maybe drags a bit and is not as strong as the second book. Random thoughts:
Overall, James Marsters gave an emotional read of the final two books and that’s what was necessary. His “fairy mockney” I found a bit irritating. His Magnus Bane is perfection—he makes Magnus sound cool but world weary and super hot.
Julian Blackthorn is a piece of work and I adore him. I love how sharp he is and enjoyed when he was deeply tortured by love but holding it all together. He is “competence porn”. When he’s a big soulless dumb-dumb in QoAaD, those scenes dragged quite a bit. I am hoping we’ll see a bit more of him because I’m honestly sad he doesn’t get his Institute back! I know he was just running everything because he “had to” and now he gets to be a kid for a year and have a break, but like, he won’t be happy doing that. The man’s a leader. That dude has “future inquisitor” written all over him.
The “Ty necromancy” side story was really boring and needed to have been cut a bit. There was a lot of Ty and Kit wandering around looking for ingredients and not talking to each other. I’m not against the plot, it was just that the scenes were somewhat repetitive. Ty owes Kit several apologies.
I’m happy where the “hot fairy threesome” story ended! I was afraid Cristina would have to choose and I loved Kieran and his whole rightful king storyline. I ship Kieran/mark, with or without Cristina.
I’m not maybe super excited to have to deal with Evil!Jace in the next series, but here we are.
Zara needs several more comeuppances.
I’m mostly finished with Clockwork Prince and it feels everyone is suffering in some way except Will. Yes I understand his sister died but his “curse” never made sense from the beginning. He was never mean, just smarmy and quippy and the story is dressing it up as a “fake persona”? Meanwhile Jem has lost everything has been suffering for way longer…
If his whole family had been killed off it would’ve made way more sense. How did he not come to the conclusion he wasn’t cursed way sooner? The fact his family lived meant the curse was fake. And all he is concerned with is Tessa…I know I’m in the minority on this but I feel no sparks with them. It’s like 90% of their interactions are Tessas inner monologue on how beautiful he is😭
I read fanfiction on a website a long time ago archiveofourown.org .
According to the plot of the series, when Sebastian kisses her and finds out that she has a boyfriend, Simon.
Then he tries to be her friend and helps her find her brother Jonathan by getting closer to her.
He is a positive character, not a madman.
There were moments with the club in Paris, then in Ireland.
But the work was deleted and I can't remember the name or even the author to search on other sites.
I swear I remember seeing either a tumblr post or interview or something from Cassandra Clare where she said that >!Simon!< was originally supposed to die in the original trilogy of TMI (in either city of ashes or glass I believe). And then after talking with her beta-readers, she was convinced to let him live. Does anyone remember that or know where that post was from? Was it real, or a rumor, or did I just make that up in my head?
I tried looking it up but couldn’t find it so I figured i’d ask here
Couldn’t help but notice this part in her newsletter today. I’m almost certain it’s Litjoy since Cassandra posted an instagram story a while ago showing her annotating Clockwork Angel. Crossing my fingers and hoping it’s true because I need to know what was going through her mind while writing TID
I've just started reading the books I'm on the first book chapter 21 where Luke is describing the uprising and it's completely different we told Valentine took the cup months before the signing of the accords and when it happened it was much more brutal then what we saw in the show Luke also had a pack (not the New York one) d had secret meetings with Jocelyn my question is why is it so different? Side note I think it would have been so cool if we saw the burning of the Fairchild manor and the baby bones foreshadowing to Jonathan.
