Hello, can you recomend any good werewolf politics books? Especially where the focus is on a leader of multiple packs within their domain. A leader like Bran Cornick (the marrock) from the Mercedes Thompson books, or Silver and Dare from Rhiannon Held books.
I would ideally love to read something that is more focussed on political intrigue and managing leadership at a top level within werewolf society. Does such a book/series exist?
Am bored of small scale singular pack dynamics.
Many thanks!!
Hey all,
After getting recommendations here I started listening to the "Bubba the Monster Hunter" series by John G. Hartness.
I just finished season two. However I figured there are some inconsistencies with the story or better Bubbas personal and family history as season two unfolds.
It never really gets mentioned, but indicated, that Bubba had a wife and kid, in the story where he's hunting the Chupacabra that turns out to be vampires and where we meet absent Amy for the first time. Hev refers to the kids Mickey Mouse watch at his wrist, and later when Agent Amy first kisses he draws back thinking of his wife - i forgot the name, but it's not Britney, who later in the story is his future wife and gets murdered by the Werewolves.
Werewolves. When that story arch starts, Bubbas Father is the leader of the pack and it's crazy playing the Messiah (the female Werewolf referring to him as "tricksy old one". However later it's his brother Jason and also Jason who killed Britney instead of his dad.
The sword. When it's first introduced his grandpa brought out back from WW2 from a Japanese officer whom he fought with his knife. But in the later it gets referred to as great-grandpas sword and the last story of season two tells how it was forged from moonstones and an Indian relict on behalf of his great-grandpa and his sister.
I think there's more, and I assume it's due to it being short stories and the story developing over time in different directions. How've these three kinda ticked me off. Anybody else realized they or got a got in-story explanation 😅
Hi everyone,
I’m writing a novel, and since this is my first attempt at urban fantasy, I’d like to know if the ideas I have in mind might resonate with fans of the genre. This project is something I’m primarily writing for myself, as it’s a way to channel my personal experiences into a story. However, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t dream of eventually publishing it. It's meant to become a series. Here’s the concept for the first book:
Alexander Vorov, a seasoned mage, lives in Silverbrook, a city haunted by a predatory Entity born of its residents' darkest impulses. Every act of magic tears a breach into the spiritual realms, allowing the Entity to seep through, corrupting minds and feeding on the negativity it thrives on. Tasked by a secretive society, Alexander’s mission is to close these breaches, suppress rogue magic, and curb the Entity’s growing influence—by any means necessary.
But his mission has cost him dearly. Years ago, Alexander abandoned his wife Elena and their daughter Luna, hoping distance would shield them from the dangers of his world. Now fifteen, Luna has inherited her father’s raw magical abilities and an inconvenient passive talent to amplify magic, drawing the Entity’s deadly attention. Forced to return, Alexander must protect her while confronting the fractured bond he left behind, knowing his presence could be as dangerous as his absence.
At its core, this story explores Alexander’s struggle to reconcile the guilt of abandoning his family with the morally gray choices he’s made in his duty, while Luna grapples with her place in the magical world her father tried to shield her from. As she seeks affection and connection from him, Alexander struggles to balance his roles as mentor and father, even as the dangers surrounding her grow.
It’s a tale of conflict and redemption, of mending broken relationships and preserving innocence in a world darkened by magic and its consequences.
Hey gang,
Just wanted to let you know about an Urban Fantasy series I wrote!
Bishop's Crossing is a uf novel set in New Orleans featuring a failed priest who became an occultist and then left it all behind to try to win back the mother of his daughter, only to get pulled back in by the church to stop a supernatural gang war.
And the sequel is out on the 31st!
Check it out at www.donmewha.com !
I have the hardest time finding paranormal Romance that isn't smutty. An I'm tired of having to jump sex scenes to get back to the story. I loved Mercy Thompson first 5 books. Anne Bishop The Others was great. An Jen L Grey has a great series of books that where interesting. I like all genres, but lately have been sticking with Paranormal. But anything snarky female heroin is right up my ALLEY/ Help.
Hi!
I'm rereading the jane yellowrock series and 'im already on book 10 and didn't see anything about jane adopting Eli and Alex...can anyone help identify in which book it happened?
Thanks!!
So i was going through graphic audio list and came across this title under UF. So is it any good? Hows the FMC? Is there any character development? Thanx in advance.
I’m LOVING “Bringing Home the Rain” by Bob McGough. A redneck addict is recruited by the government to investigate some paranormal activity. It’s hilarious, but never written in a mean way exploiting the poverty, the addiction, or the hillbilliness of the main character. When a wizard has to take on an onslaught of forest creatures in a storm, I defy you not to smile.
This story is rolling out on RoyalRoad and Wattpad and r / HFY or you can just check out my website for the links. If you think it might be up your alley, I'd love for you to check it out. Also, don't get triggered by the title of this post, it was tongue-in-cheek.
On that note, I should say my writing does not hold back, so if you're trigger happy, this story is not for you. All Triggers Apply

OUT NOW on Amazon!
Happy release day to Krista but I absolutely loved book one of her new series The Hour of Witches!!
My review: I COULD NOT put this book down… I was on the edge of my seat up until the very last few pages! The action and mystery was incredible and keeps you intrigued the entire time. My jaw was literally open and my eyes wide throughout much of the fight scenes - Krista did such an amazing job making these magical battles just that… MAGICAL! I absolutely loved the interactions and banter between Alyssa and Trace and am dying for more! The budding relationship between Alyssa and Trace was the perfect tease - Krista we need some more of these two STAT! I’m so excited for the rest of the series as well because we left off with a couple major tasks for Trace to do. There were so many new characters introduced and I loved each of them - Chip was just quirky and so funny. Reverie… she was an instant dislike for me but oh boy did that change. Krista Walsh… I don’t know how you continue to imagine and create these amazing stories but I hope you never stop!
I see that so many of the posts focus and recommend long established authors and book series. However, every great book series began with book one. How do you find that new author?
Amazon is difficult to me, because it shows the same, we will say ten author’s books for the first 100 top selling books in a genre. Does anyone ever find that new book that just listed at #28,502 on Amazon.
Do you use Goodreads? Is it really any better than Amazon at finding a new great author?
How do you discover that new great book (series)?
Do you ever read book 1 of a series before books 2, 3, and ... are published?
Hey urban fantasy lovers, I go by S.O.A (turns out you can't change username here, thanks reddit.) I'm the author of "The Divided Guardian" - Find it on Royal Road
Since middle school I have been drawing and creating characters for fun. At some point I decided to give them backstories, and slowly and surely a world was born.
Fast-forward 14 years, I saved everything in my head, never committing anything to paper. I used to amaze myself and my brothers with how much I could remember, to the point we could sit for hours talking about plot threads.
However now I decided to get a bit more serious, I've written notes, I got the general outline of the story with some major events and key characters. And now I'm playing connect the dots.
The story is turning out really great (imho) getting a lot of positive feedback, but I always strive to improve. You can imagine after 14 years of story crafting at least some elements would be extremely polished. 2 things that instantly comes to mind are the MC (of course) and the power system, both are complex and well thought.
And so, I invite you to join this journey with me, I intend to see this one through, and its the readers that give me the fuel to push forward!
Here is the blurb, its hard to craft since it's barely scratching the surface, the story is that detailed:
"Change your heart and find redemption, or strike at me and face judgment."
These words belong to Novaria's most feared enforcer—Angelo Ashworth, known throughout the city as the Angel of Death. He exists as three separate physical beings who share every thought and sensation: Angelo himself, driven by an unwavering vision of justice, Blue, whose cold logic dissects every decision, and Red, who revels in unleashing chaos. Their combined existence turns each choice into a war of conflicting truths, while their divided nature leaves them at half-strength—a curse that forces them to rely on wit and coordination where raw power fails.
As regional tensions rise between Luminia and its former homeland of Infernia, Angelo stumbles upon a revelation about his parents' demise. Each answer he uncovers only fractures his understanding further.
Behind closed doors, powerful organizations guard fragments of his origin—truths they'll silence him to protect, should he venture too close.
While Luminia and Infernia inch toward war, the divided guardian's pursuit of answers leads him down increasingly treacherous paths. Does our angel truly seek justice, or is it vengeance in disguise? For a guardian whose very self exists in three parts, harmony between his aspects could light his way forward—or their discord could shatter what remains of his humanity.
What to expect:
- Unique and complex MC(s)
- Character driven
- Moral complexity
- Rich world building
- Slow burn
- Complex yet comprehensive power system
- The MC has a condition that halves their strength but provides utility, enabling creative problem-solving.
I'm super creative with the content I'm making for this project. I make characters concept art (under spoiler tags divided by each chapter)
And for the finale of volume 2, I even created a few songs that one of my characters wrote. I used Suno to bring them to life and believe me, they turned insanely good. I highly advise binging all the way to the end to give them a listen, with context they sent chills down my spine. (1 out of 3 I made is made public, the other 2 will be as well soon, when the second volume ends)
Volumes 1 and 2 were epic, the perfect set up for volume 3. I'd love more people to join the ride, I want discussion because there so much to talk about since the story raises many thought provoking questions.
And of course I want feedback, so I can create a story that truly deserve its readers!
Looking for series which focuses on the growth of its protagonist. In which they are a much different person by the end of the series than they were at the beginning.
Ok, first of I am hoping I am not violating the be nice rule with this but this hit me just left-side and I needed to complain somewhere.
So I just started the Hollows series by Kim Harrison about a week ago and I really binged and I am just finished with the fourth book of the series. For those who do not know, it’s a huge series of about 18 books plus side stories. So I still have quite a long way to go. I am reading all the books as ebooks and some of them have extras at the back like a glossary or a small trivia about the races.
As I said, I just finished with the 4th book and one of those extras is an excerpt for a book of the same series and I thought I would read it before opening the actual ebook of that book. Thinking it’s the 5th book, since everything else would be stupid. It was an excerpt of the second chapter but I don’t like closing a book without finishing it and I thought what’s the harm if it’s the next book and I am going to be reading it soon anyway.
I really should have checked the series order once again. WHO puts an excerpt of the 12th book of a series into the 4th (!!!) book of the series??? I only skimmed through since you could notice pretty fast that something was wrong. But I still got SPOILERED so bad by the ACTUAL book. I am so mad, who does that to their own readers?
I know know that two characters who are still enemy’s will be will-they-won’t-they, the same character has a child with another, who was their finance (with whom he broke it off and they are getting engaged again?). ARGH I really enjoyed the series but I am so mad and disappointed. Those are all points I wanted to discover along the way. And yeah getting spoilered happens, but by previous books of the series?!
Thanks to all who bothered to read this.
Hi I'm looking for the said title but have been bit disappointed last couple of times, thing is I prefer serious dialogue not silly, jokey I get that it's entertaining but then it seems I'm reading a kiddies book, or a comedy
Hello,
What your favorite urban fantasy books ? I’m French and I try to read in English, to improve it and also because in my country urban fantasy is not popular and editors stop sagas before the ending and if we want to know the end, english is the only way. Maybe amazing books never been translated too and I want discover that.
Does anybody know wtf happened to the author for this series? Not the greatest series I’ll admit but I want some closure, seems like it’s reaching the peak at the end of book 9 and I can’t find anything online about if the series will be continued or not.
Hello all,
I've been posting chapters of my short urban fantasy story on a subreddit (blurb below):
Would you take your keepsake to a shop with half-baked signage?
Phillens does. He has an item he wants to deposit.
Not with a bank, but a consultancy complete with a surface-to-air train.
Only a keepsake for the vault is the last thing Jay and Jo want. That kind of heat could invite an apple town's worth of trouble...
Interested?

Okay, I'm pretty close to one of those major series hangovers where you enjoyed the author's work so much you binged all 12 books (and 2 novella's) in a short time and now you feel...empty.
Empty and scared you'll never, ever, ever find anything decent to read again!
Okay, cut the drama, but 2024 was a year full of reading disappointment. The only decent to good things were Seanan McGuire's October Daye, about 50% of Nalini Singh's Guildhunter series (so actually also disappointing) and the 5th book in the Discovery of Witches. And of course Mr. Jacka who made me love Verus more with each book (tbh, I'm not entirely finished with the last book, but I'm anticipating my upcoming crisis).
The Dresden Files, Kate Daniels series, Eric Carter series, the Nighthuntress series, Chicagoland Vampires, Black Hat Bureau, Potentate of Atlanta and The Hollows are pretty much the UF - with or without romance/smut - I usually recommend myself (there are way more, but I'm not scribbling an essay here). October Daye will now join that list and Alex Verus will absolutely be in the top.
But... what now? I had actually bought several of the Aaronovitch - Rivers of London books because I see that series named constantly. Well, I wasn't really enthusiastic and honestly can't even remember now what it was about. Same for Jane Yellowrock by Faith Hunter. Couldn't get through the first book, DNF'ED. I also quit Estep's Elemental Assassin after the first overall arc is finished (#5 or #6). I was surprised how dark and brutal it was for a female writer. That doesn't happen often. Too bad it becomes too meandering and unrealistic after that.
What would you recommend after Alex Verus?
Preferences:
Preferably 5 books or more. A finished series too (every time I start one that is still running I get angry at myself. When you read so much and have always done so it becomes hard to remember exactly what's what. Result: with each new book coming out you need to reread everything that came before. And that for multiple series... My TBR is much too long for that nonsense).
I like romance - when I'm in the mood for it, so it isn't necessary- as long as it's an equal partnership, no bizarre abuse & Stockholm Syndrome Porn (as seems to be popular these days in the PNR community), and the romance isn't the main story. It can be important, but it hàs to have another overall arc/plot.
At the moment I actually prefer a non-rom UF, or like it was done by Jacka, but great tips with romance for the future are still appreciated.
Same for smut: in the case of a romantic UF - once again, like them just as much without a clear romance - it is totally acceptable, but not smut for the smut. The romance in Alex Verus was refreshing after a lot of 'open door', (though I àm getting a little sick of the trope "MMC finally grows up/ takes action/ takes revenge because his love is murdered/raped/tortured/otherwise screwed over"), so a story with smut does need to make that part of the story arc/character development/relationship development etc etc, you get what I mean. (Ah, yeah: when story has detailed s£x I'd like it to be F/M).
Male or Female main character doesn't really matter.
Strong magical system. I do like wizards/sorcerers/ witches/mages - whatever name is used - the most, but I'm not opposed to supernatural creatures in a main role.
Bit of humour is wonderful. Dry whit and sarcasm are both very much appreciated.
High stakes are totally okay. I'm in need of a pageturner, not a cozy "while I'm cooking" book. Uh uh... I'm gonna need to burn that food!
Original, unique... that's really difficult nowadays. So much has been written already. However, what can not happen is predictability! I read A LOT and unfortunately that means I can unravel too many plots way in advance, or already know what a certain hint or comment will mean for future pages. An author that surprises me on the regular, hell yes!
Enough about my preferences. Please help me out. I want to start 2025 with (another) great UF series! .
