When it boots it begins shutting down
Hello everyone! I'm attempting to test ReplicantOS on my TCL 10 SE smartphone, but currently, it doesn't seem possible to install any free operating system on this device. Does anyone have experiences or suggestions on how to proceed? It would be fantastic if the community could consider adding support for TCL 10 SE in the future. Thanks in advance for your help and advice!
Hi, I didn't pay attention to the efs warning a bit (https://www.reddit.com/r/ReplicantOS/comments/ky1fyo/new\_replicant\_60\_0004\_release\_candidate\_4\_has/), and now my imei broke, I didn't make any backups, is there what is the efs recovery option?
Samsung i9300
thanks.

If your device has a working cellular modem, we highly suggest that you backup your EFS partition locally and save it somewhere safe before upgrading. It is very hard to fix this if it become corrupted. Directions are here: https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/BackupTheEFS
If you have any application data or media on your device that you'd like to have saved during the upgrade process, it is recommended that you also back that up locally before testing this new Rom image. Directions are here: https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/BackupTheDataPartition/
If you are currently on Replicant 6.0 0003 or one of the other 0004 release candidates and have personal data on the device that you already saved or don't care about losing, please don't wipe the data partition during the upgrade so you can provide feedback to Replicant in the method outlined in the first link above so that we can educate other users about whether these upgrades are able to be done safely without risk of data loss.

No matter what Rom you are using before installing this new Replicant release candidate, if your device has a cellular modem it is recommended that you backup your device's EFS partition if you haven't already done so: https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/BackupTheEFS/
If you have any application data or media on your device that you'd like to have saved, it is recommended that you also back that up before testing this Rom, at least until we have more feedback from users saying that this upgrade is able to be done safely without much risk of data loss: https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/BackupTheDataPartition/
I am a newbie. The model is PLT7800-KIDS. I am most concerned about whether this operating system would be compatible with the Wireless card.
The user manual describes it as "802.11 b/g/N"
Thanks!!
(Would have posted this in the correct forum on the website, but it appears to be down.)
Just to say that in January Samsung released a phone with a removable battery(!) and Exynos CPU / Mali GPU!
https://www.samsung.com/us/business/products/mobile/phones/galaxy-xcover-pro/
https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_xcover_pro-10001.php
It is marketed as 'for business' (which I think explains the removable battery), but it is available on Amazon UK. Quite expensive, but looks quite repairable, which is promising.
Nothing on xda yet in terms of LineageOS, but another Exynos 9611 device has an unofficial TWRP on there. Hopefully in time, some LineageOS ports will be done.
However the bootloader will need to be freed (it has a modem on the SoC). I am aware that is a massive piece of work.
But removable battery! Hurray!
Edit - the original blog post has been edited to confirm it is 'fictional political satire' for 1st April. I thought it couldn't be true, but didn't want to say just in case some people had actually made some poor decisions, and been unlucky too.
I'd like to give a chance to this Android distribution however the devices that are supported are just too old. Team should really start working on porting Replicant to new devices. I know it's hard but think about this: Current devices don't even have 4G and 3G is almost EOL. It's a shame because using an OS that is 100% free software sounds amazing. However with the current selection of devices it's not a good deal.

It'd be best if you could provide your feedback in this thread on our mailing list: https://lists.osuosl.org/pipermail/replicant/2020-January/002452.html
We mainly are looking for bugs that aren't currently known that are show stoppers that would block us from releasing these Rom images for our next release.
After a very quick introduction on Replicant and the smartphones ecosystem, we look at what affects smartphones' and tablets' lifetime and how to increase it by making Replicant more sustainable.
You can follow the Replicant project's progress towards getting a testing version of Replicant 6.0 0004 here: https://redmine.replicant.us/issues/1960
This release will fix a number of bugs in 6.0 0003 and will also add a few features. We plan for this to be a stop gap solution for Replicant users until the time that Replicant 9 is released.
I followed the guide on redmine.replicant.us, downloading and verifying the recovery and OS image for the I9250 on my laptop. Following the instructions, I successfully used Heimdall to flash the recovery onto my device. I used the recovery to wipe the storage partitions, as per the OS installation instructions.
Where I've run into difficulty is in the installation of the operating system image. I plugged the phone into my computer, where it showed up under lsusb
. The installation instructions said to select Choose from emulated
under the Apply update
menu in the Replicant Recovery, however that just sent me back to the recovery's home screen. I also tried plugging a USB device into the phone and following the instructions for sd card installation, but that did not work.
Any assistance or advice in installing ReplicantOS would be appreciated.
(well kind of)
I was able to use the Android Debug Bridge to get replicant-6.0-maguro.zip onto my phone. I just plugged it into my laptop, booted into recovery and selected the ADB option in the Apply update
menu. On my computer I ran adb sideload /path/to/replicant-6.0-maguro.zip
. When the sideload was complete, I selected the reboot option in the recover, and my phone displayed the replicant logo. I think I successfully flashed the OS, but it doesn't boot.
So many of us know basics commands like CHANGE SUBJECT, STOP, facts about self, etc, anybody know how to improve AI, it seems like once you coverage basic knowledge of yourself to it, like parents, brothers, wife. It remembers, but like if i were to say “ I have 3 dogs” sometimes the response will be> that’s nice, of some not directed answer back. Then I’ll ask “ how many dogs do I have? It will response “ quite a few” or a lot more then usual. But it never says, “ you have three dogs.
Hi Community,
I am trying to get Replicant on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus but I keep getting stuck at adding Replicant release key to my GPG keyring. I am getting this issue on both Macbook and Ubuntu:
Adams-MacBook-Air:Desktop adam$ gpg2 --armor --import /Users/adam/Desktop/recovery-maguro.asc
gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.
gpg: Total number processed: 0
Is there anything I can do? Thanks.
I would like to use cellular service for my home internet usage. I am posting here because I am interested in keeping with the viewpoint of the Replicant OS developers (their definition and philosophy of "free").
So, I am looking for a cellular hotspot device and software. I would like to be able to connect a handful of devices to the hotspot at once, although I might be able to live with connecting just one. But, I would like to be able to still sent print jobs to my printer from several devices. I am going to be using the Sprint network in the US (which uses CDMA technology).
I have for years avoided Android phones because of google, but replicant looks like a way to getting a free software phone not tied to google/Apple/amazon/etc. I’ve never worked with Android phones and software before but I’ve used GNU/Linux quite a bit. Does the galaxy s3 have to be rooted first? Anything else? Is there a guide to building replicant from source and installing it to the phone?
I'm a LineageOS user and I never built Android on my own. I'm currently considering to buy an android phone with 2 or more SIM slots (probably a oneplus) with this target: transform it in a feature phone with basic features.
Specifically I only want it to be able to make phone calls and to sync its addressbook with nextcloud addressbook over DAV.
So I would like to have an android with a lot of features removed like:
Ideally speaking I would end up with 3 user applications: phone, addressbook and davx
Do you think I can succeed in this? Can I use ReplicantOs for this? Can you point me to some useful resources? Any opinion to share?
