When making Pro Tools help request posts
The title
If you are given given an error number, add it to the front of the post title
Do not make sensationalized post titles like; stating you need help (all posters do and it is not truly informative), urgency (it's always urgent), all caps, or excessive punctuation. The post title should only be a very short / concise description of the problem.
Within the body text of the post
provide the version of Pro Tools, the operating system, the error number, hardware involved, and what you have tried.

I’m thinking of leaving Apple and building my own PC with AMD processor since Intel seems to have lost confidence. I’ve read Pro Tools won’t run with AMD processors, but have also read about successes. What’s the scoop?
My system is Mac pro 2013 with OS Monterrey 12.7.6, PT 2023.12.1, Motu ultralite mk5, Evo Sp8 connected through ADAT.
My problem is that the motu has 8 inputs, 10 outputs, spdif outputs 11-12 and then phones out which would be 13-14
This hardware configuration messes up how pro tools percieves the I/O from the optical expansion (EVO sp8 connected through ADAT), making the inserts work on output 13/14 but inputs 15/16 for some reason. which makes me loose 2 channels of I/O.
I've already checked the I/O window, tried to reconfigure it and nothing seems to be helping, if anyone has some solution for this or send some literature or videos to inform myself on how to deep dive in the I/O I'd be very grateful.
Looking at getting an M4 pro with 64 gig ram to run PT for Post. No VI, just plugs and 3 monitors for 5.1 and potentially ITB Atmos sessions. Anyone running this yet?
I have a macbook air 2017 that's running on Mojave 10.14.6
I used the protools perpetual license
A year ago or so tried upgrading my OS and protools no longer worked so i held off. (very annoying have to reinstall my orginal OS) Now i'm considering upgrading to Monterey 12.7.4
Anyone else do this? just wanted to check before updating
i installed pro tools (the free version thing) on my macbook (15" touchbar 2017 on ventura 13.6.9) and in the audio dropdown from the menu bar thing it has a bunch of "audio bridge"s and "aggregate i/o". when i plug my wired headphones into the headphone jack, the macbook just completely ignores it like theres nothing plugged in. is there a way to fix this?
Anyone else having issues with pro tools after the release of the new update? Won’t even allow me to update to the new version at all. Was working on a project and then it froze. Avid Link tried to auto update and it still shows installing ? Tried to re open the project I’m working on after closing it out and stuck on sorting screen when trying to open. Makes me want to switch to another DAW in all honesty.
Hello, I'm using the UM2 to get my mixer into Pro Tools Intro. I've been using ASIO4ALL drivers and they've worked excellently for a couple months, suddenly my audio interface isn't showing up in WDM list now. I didn't change anything about my set-up and my computer is recieving the interface just fine, I use it to get my computer audio to my monitors. Only in ASIO does the usual USB audio option not show up. My ASIO is up to date, I've tried installing the version of ASIO on the behringer website, and I've tried the obvious things like reinstalling ASIO and restarting my computer. And I'm using the same USB port. I tried using the stock windows 11 drivers to get the interface into Pro Tools but it comes with all kinds of buffer errors that make it un-useable. If anyone has any idea how to fix this I would be so grateful.
My current system is a 2014 Mac Mini, Focusrite Safire Pro 40 FireWire, ilok USB A.
Having more analog inputs would be helpful, and I’m tired of conserving computer resources .
The new Mac Minis seem like a screaming deal, but not compatible with my old interface (I tried to connect the FireWire using a USBC adapter with no luck). I can get behind a new Scarlett or Clarett + interface which would allow me to use my Safire on standalone mode increasing my inputs to 16. Doing so eliminates the need for FireWire.
The new Mac does not have a USB A port. Should I bite another $60 bullet and get a new iLok, or will it work with an adapter (which would also let me use my USB A peripherals)? Is it a hassle to transfer licenses from an old iLok to a new one? I don’t have many licenses so it’s not an issue of space- just compatibility.
Hey i’m using protools for the first time on a macbook. Normally in my uni classes we use a keyboard with a numpad to do all the shortcuts but my laptop keyboard doesn’t have one. The ones that don’t require the numpad work fine but I’m trying to do Cmd + space or Cmd + F12 to begin recording and it just isn’t working. Normally I would just press 3 on the numpad to record but obviously I can’t now. Am I gonna need a different keyboard to use these shortcuts?
I’m a beginner to music producing but i’m having a good time learning with pro tools lite. Wondering if anyone has recommendations on plugins that are useful for this version or protools. More specifically synth or bass plugins.
Or is the lite version not compatible with most plugins?
Edit: I’m using this program on a PC (windows 11)

Pro Tools 2024.6
Audio randomly cuts out during playback or recording, but does not disrupt what is recorded. Exported files will also sometimes have these random dropouts. It's not track dependent as all audio from Pro Tools will dropout at once. With that said, it is also not buss/master buss dependent as it has happened on projects with just a couple of mono audio tracks. That also means it doesn't seem connected to the system being overly taxed as it happens in these small projects.
It's been going on for a couple years now so this spanned many Pro Tools updates. Happened in Monterey and also in Sonoma. I just recently upgraded MacOS to resolve a bug that I spent all year going back and forth with Avid on. (In Monterey, Pro Tools crashes when adding/removing certain devices from Peripherals menu specifically when any Waves plugin is visually up on screen). Now my focus is on resolving this dropout issue.
It happens just about every day but not always. Sometimes just once, sometimes several times a session. Sometimes the same project that had the dropout several times one day, won't have any dropouts the day after. It doesn't seem dependent on any CPU spikes as I keep the System Usage window up at all times. It'll even happen when projects are hovering at just a couple percent usage.
I've followed the PT optimization guides. I've also disabled auto time and date. Happens even on fresh reboots, and I always start each studio day with a fresh reboot and have for many years, way before even owning this computer. If I'm running the project on internal or external drive. With the interface directly connected, bypassing my OWC TB4 dock. I've wiped preferences many times, for this and other issues. Again, it's been a couple years now I think, so I've done way more in that time than I can even remember while writing this.
This has been a remarkable issue I can't seem to workout. I'm open to ideas.
Thank you for reading!
I’m relatively new to pro tools. I recently learned that in order to record multiple takes of something for later comping, you first have to click the dropdown menu next to the track name and hit “new playlist” after recording the first initial take. Me, being a logic user and used to being able to just record over the previous recordings to save takes, did just that without hitting “new playlist,” and recorded several takes. Did it really delete each previous take when i did that? Is there any way to recover all of the takes that i just presumably recorded over with each take?
Thanks
Was hoping for a discount on the perpetual licenses at Plugin Boutique, but they just hiked the prices today.
Searched the web, but couldn't find a thing about this. I've long had an an issue where some plugins "resist" new automation moves in touch mode. The moves will be written momentarily, but the parameter is always trying to jump back to its original position. When automation is written in this fashion, the parameter is bouncing all over the place on playback.
Latch mode works fine, however.
At first, I thought this was mostly isolated to iZotope Neutron EQ 3--or that was the only plugin where I noticed it in my workflow. I'd experience it while adjusting the EQ curve over time. But now I'm seeing the same behavior from Supertone Clear.
All parameters on these plugins are enabled for automation. "Plug in" is enabled in the automation window. What am I doing wrong here?
Thanks for any help!
Edit:
Version: 2022.12.0
Windows 10 Pro, version 22H2
I just updated to the most recent version and all of the windows within Pro Tools (timeline, tracks, MIDI Editor, etc.) are all significantly larger than they used to be. There's much less space for everything on my screen. I'm using it on a PC, but can't find a way to bring it all back to the previous size. Any insight or recommendations? Thank you!
New to clip effects here. I understand they are on a clip level. When clip effects is active it seems to be active on every single audio track after that. I am concerned all my tracks I have printed and bounced now inadvertently have clip effects on them - with the effects active and zero'd out but still active with default settings. It would be appear if I use clip effects once and leave the window then I clip effects is active on every track I click on including my printed bounce. Is this true and does this mean I have to check every track I don't want clip effects on? Yikes! Please help.
I'll soon be upgrading to a Mac Studio from my old Mac Pro and will no longer be able to use my rack-mounted Digi 003 with ProTools. I strictly record voiceover, usually with one mic, sometimes with two, and rarely with three. Nowadays, for my main day-to-day recording, I use a separate mic-pre and only use the onboard pre's when I have to use a 2nd or 3rd mic (which is NOT often!)
Any recommendations for a good replacement, preferably one the allows you to bypass the mic pre's? I'm also open to replacements that have NO onboard mic pre's.
EDIT: Since my 003 is rack-mounted along with my other equipment, I prefer something rack-mountable with cable inputs in the rear, rather than than the front.
Thanks!
I'll try again. Waveform zoom is very low res. Usually works fine, but sometimes I get this. Intermittent. And redrawing waveform doesn't fix it. Any ideas? Anyone else have this happen?
I have been using Pro Tools as my main DAW for 2 years. I am beginning to feel like I can almost "play it like an instrument", meaning I can do a lot of tasks effortlessly and intuitively. Some of the skills that I learned that have contributed to this are playlisting, comping, hot keys, modifier keys, Beat Detective, using Melodyne with ARA, and clip based effects. I am wanting to continue this progress. I hoping that you can share what some of your breakthroughs were so that I can look into learning them.
Thanks for your input!
Hello Pro Tools friends, have any of you come across the issue of sample rate changing while using your Steel Series headphones as a Playback engine?
I’ve read that the SteelSeries GG app maybe to blame as it is slaving my audio to 48 khz and I’m unable to open my session that was created in 44.1 sample rate. (Going into Windows settings and attempting to change in there doesn’t work because it’s greyed out). I don’t mind deleting the app but it is quite convenient for some things but even the I don’t believe this app is the issue. My intuition maybe that the headphone Bluetooth transmitter maybe to blame as it may only run in that sample rate, but I have tried a hard wire connection and still same issue.
Have any of you found any luck changing the sample rate?
I know that bypassed plugins can still cause latency over inactive ones…does this occur for sends as well?
Using Streamlabs I attempted to stream a session but couldn't get the audio from Pro Tools to show up on the stream.
All the answers, blogs etc I've found online are either from very long ago or using so much extraneous apps/hardware that it's not worth it.
It's nearly 2025, please tell me there is an easy, normal and simple way to do this just like streaming desktop audio from a game.
Edit/ This is for Windows, my bad. All the amazing MAC workarounds won't work.
Current best workaround is: Sonobus, Source Nexus or the old Physical AUX from interface headphone out to laptop headphone in and use headphone source as audio.
Hi All
I run a small studio and my knowledge within Pro Tools has some strange gaps.
I know some very advanced things, and yet some of the basics I've never followed up on.
So Headphone Sends, the hardware in use is almost irrelevent but I'll list it just incase
Interface: 2x MOTU 16A
Mixing Console: Toft ATB 24
Headphone Distributer: Behringer P16-I
Stereo Out (1-2) (From MOTU to Mackie Big Knob to Monitors)
The master section of my mixer is noisy and as I use some plugins when tracking I decided to bypass the monitor return path to my desk and simply send outputs 1-2 directly to my monitors.
However this means that when I solo something in Pro Tools it also Solos it for the person wearing the headphones. Which means any issues I might identify during the recording I cant even check until that recording is over and then I can go back.
So if we use drums as an example (As this is really where I need to solo things) this is how my headphone feeds are setup.
Kick mics > Kick Bus > Drum Bus > Drum Master (Headphone Send Placed Here, Pre Fader)
Obviously solo'ing any individual drum microphone or bus results in only that signal being sent onto the drum master where the headphone send is. So I understand WHY it happens.
But the thing I can't wrap my head around is what a better way of doing this is.
I know I could send from every individual microphone to the headphone mixer but then I'm forced to create two mixes, one for the headphones and one for the control room.
Ideally I want whatever hits that drum master bus to always be broadcast to the headphones un-interrupted.
What I'm asking may be impossible but I'm open to various solutions, Its really about effective and quick solutions that dont compromise the overall quality.
Hello guys, Black Friday deals are here/coming. I’m a student so I waited for this. I have a couple of plug ins I want to buy already like FabFilter bundle, RX, SA 2 Dialog processor. But what are the plug ins y’all would recommend me to look out for? Wich are must haves for you in both, music production and film post production?
Hey guys!
I’ve recently migrated to editing music on pro tools and I’ve been wondering if there’s any function similar to logic’s groove track, does anyone know?
