Looking for a refill…

Does anyone know of a refill that came out back in the olden days of reason that spelled out the alphabet?

I can't copy and paste a clip any more

Has anyone using Reason 6.0 encountered the problem when copying a clip and not being able to paste it? I used to be able to do this when editing and duplicating a clip, now I can't. Tips, anyone?

Combinator MIDI question

The midi implementation guide shows the CC values for each of the default rotary knobs and buttons so I can program my midi controller to work with those. But combinators can now add many more rotary knobs and buttons than was possible when the combinator was initially created.

Is there an easy way to find what CC values I should use if I add additional knobs or buttons, or if knobs that you add can even be controlled my MIDI CC? I'm trying to avoid trying each CC value to see which ones work because with my controller I have to close reason, open the midi software, change CC, save to controller, close that software, and then re open reason to test it.

Quick question about Reason+ and having an older perpetual version of it

Will subscribing to R+ fully "upgrade" the old perpetual version of it or does the account stay with that perpetual version once the subscription is dropped? Looked online and there are some conflicting answers.

Made with Reason - December 2024 Edition

Thank you to everyone who submitted tracks for the December update of the Made with Reason playlist!

I've randomized the order of submissions. Sorry to those who ended up at the end of the list but that's what the "random gods" decided. And anyway, you should probably listen on shuffle as there's no meaningful editorial order to the playlist.

🔊 Listen to the playlist here (and don't forget to like/follow/save it!)

And let everyone know what your favorite track is in the comments. No cheating with mentioning your own track!

This goes without saying, but if you like any of the songs on the playlist, remember to add them to your own playlists, share, etc. I'm sure every indie artist on the list would appreciate it.

Adding to R13 File Browser Shortcuts?

Any idea how I can add links/dirs to the Shortcuts section in the Browser?

I would like to add a few directories to the shortcuts but I cannot find a way... (I can right click on an existing shortcut and Delete/Rescan, that's all I could find)

Also I would be grateful if anyone could point out how is this new browser supposed to be used? More specifically what is the suggested/best way to store my Refills, Samples and such?

Drag and drop midi vst’s

Hello! Given Reason’s lack of midi in, I’ve really grown to like vsts like melody sauce and scaler 2 for the drag and drop midi feature. Are there any other vsts that have that feature?

Thank you.

Edit: My bad. I mean midi out. As in a VST controlling a rack instrument like a player does.

CHECK YOUR REWARDS POINTS BALANCE, Y'ALL

Maybe I'm the only one here that didn't know about it, but just in case I'm not - check your rewards balance before buying a Rack Extension, cos you may have more points than you think! I didn't realise there even was a rewards program (so huge shoutout to /u/Odd-Stomach-4575 for clueing me in), and I just bought items that I could've used my points on instead, meaning instead of spending £38 for Objekt, it would have been completely free, which is even better than the sale price!!

To find them, just log in and view this page: https://www.reasonstudios.com/rewards/ and it'll list your balance.

I dunno if we're able to partially redeem points though, so I've just asked them in a support ticket. Like, if I have, say, 130 points, but I only want to get a £25 voucher, can I get one and still have my 105 points balance in the account, or does an expiration timer start, or do I need to redeem ALL the points balance (all 130) at one time?... I just used some of my points balance to make a £75 voucher, and got Friktion and the BV-X vocoder for just £1 (it was £76 total cos they're both in the winter sale for another 4 days, so after applying the voucher it was just a £1 left to pay), and it DID leave the remining points balance in my account. Apparently, if you create a voucher, you have to use the full amount of the voucher within 60 days, or it disappears. Your point balance persists though. Nice li'l program, which I had no idea even existed!!

Edit: oh, and also - the vouchers are only good for the Reason Studios rack extensions and a few refills of theirs, and only a couple of items by other devs. Check that the item you were thinking about purchasing is actually in the rewards store first before you create a voucher, since they expire 60 days later. Here's the Rewards Store page: https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/rewards/

I'm trying to get my Alesis Command drums to match midi Note numbers with Redrum

Hi!

Looks like Redrum uses 36-46 notes, and the Alesis kit uses some other standard, shown here partway down the page:

https://support.alesis.com/en/support/solutions/articles/69000810013-alesis-command-kit-frequently-asked-questions

I'm wondering how I can remap these in reason. The MIDI is coming through an M-Audio Uno midi->USB converter. It all seems to work fine, it's just the drums don't agree with Redrum about which numbers should map to which notes.

Algorithm and BV-X

I am on the trial of Algorithm and as much as I love the concept and how it works - I am not loving the sound of it. Glassy to shrill/harsh and not very musical. Maybe it just sounds too digital? Is this just a matter of taste or am I missing something?

Also on trial of BV-X which seems like a lot of fun and might be worth buying. I rarely used the stock vocoder but this is so easy to use and has expanded features that I can see finding its way into some music.

New computer horrible performance in Reason

Just got a i7 with 32 GB ram and my latency mon numbers are immaculate, but when I am working in Reason it is a bunch of pops and crackles like never before. I had a 12 year old i7 previous that performed better. I have tried everything from disabling e-cores to turning off HT but it is still a mess in REASON only. I will try another DAW but I don't get it. Anyone else have ideas or similar experiences? I am very close to just getting a mac mini.

Midi mapping/control question

I’m an idiot when it comes to midi (midi + idiot = midiot?), so please forgive me if this is a dumb question. If I choose to do an override for a control so that my midi controller can adjust a specific parameter on an instrument, then it seems like it always controls that parameter on that specific device, even if I have a completely different device selected (so if I assign a knob to filter 3 on Thor, then that knob always controls filter 3 on that Thor, even if I’m actively controlling a subtractor somewhere else in the rack)

Is there a way to do remote override that only works if you’re controlling that specific device?

Exporting issues

Hey Reasoners, Quick run down: upgraded from R11 to R12 in order to upgrade to M1 Max MacBook pro 64 G ram and 2 TB SSD. I've had multiple issues including old VST'S no longer recognized such as Trackspacer for some reason even on older projects in which they worked on my old computer while using R11. The most annoying thing however is when I export a song by bouncing to MP3, some tracks are out of sync from the rest of the song. As an example, the drums hit 1/32 or so too soon once bounced. I also have an instance of an audio track also doing this which tells me it's not a midi issue. Anybody else experienced something similar?

Best to avoid Windows 11 24H2 Update

Sharing in case anyone has a similar experience. I updated to the 24H2 update last week and the next time on was on Reason (I'm on v13.1 with Scarlett 2i2 interface) it didn't feel right almost as if the audio was out by a few ms and louder. I left it a day (I'd had a bit of Christmas spirit so wondered if it was me) and came back yesterday and got further frustrated with really glitchy audio playback. After a bit of research I found that there have been a lot of complaints specifically on treatment of audio drivers, so I've just reversed out the update which was painless and took maybe 15mins and everything is back to normal. YMMV but I would avoid this update for now.

i messed up reason 10 and need help

i accidently set it to scan my entire c drive when looking for vsts and now it's not loading

idk if it's just completely crashing or it's taking forever to scan the whole thing

is there anyway i could change these settings from outside the app?

that would be super helpful

UPDATE: i managed to get it to start loading but while scanning it just stops, no error message, the app just closes

The Rolls/piano roll

I really would like to know wut happend to the piano roll, the drum roll, Rex player roll. I dragged a mp3 or a wave drum sample in Reason on an audio track. I chopped it up n rearranged the pattern. But I wanted to use eitha the drum roll or the Rex roll. Afta this 13.1 update, suddenly I can’t find them joints in the edit mode. Before the update it wuz there. The options for the 3 wuz there. Now I can’t find them joints in options for any of the rolls. Anyone knows where it went? Am I missing something sumthin?

Deep Dive Tutorials for Objekt

So far I seen videos showing off some experimental sounds. But I would like to learn how to be more specific about what kind of sound I'm trying to make. A Harp, Guitar, Bass etc. Anyone know any tutorials on how to make a specific instrument from beginning to end that explains how to tune things up along the way?

Back from a long break

Just got Reason 13 after a 10 year break from producing. Upgraded from Reason 6. What’s the biggest thing released between 6 and 13 that I should know about?

Reason 13 Edit Screen

Just updated to Reason 13. Is there any way to make the edit screen "full screen" like in 12?

Stock sounds different in Reason 13 vs. 12?

Hi everyone, I was using Reason 12 and found it to be enjoyable, straightforward and intuitive.

But I got tired of the stock sounds so I decided to switch to Ableton. However I have found Ableton to be difficult to learn, and I don’t have time to read product manuals and watch tutorials…I just want to make music and easily put down my ideas.

So I’m planning to go back to Reason, maybe I will try version 13. Does the new version have different stock sounds than version 12?

Thank you!
