Hello! I’ve been looking for a new dentist that takes Medi-Cal for a few months now. A lot of the ones on Medi-cal’s provider search have poor reviews. The only good one that I found was in SF, and I learned today that I can only be accepted in San Mateo County. Yelp hasn’t been as helpful as a lot of them don’t take Medi-cal. The dentist doesn’t necessarily have to be in Pacifica, but the closer, the better. Please let me know if you have any recommendations!

The Board and I have heard from many community members in recent days regarding concerns and questions about our decision to co-locate Ocean Shore’s K-5 students with Sunset Ridge, and transition Ocean Shore’s and Vallemar's 6-8 students to Ingrid B. Lacy, starting in the 2025-2026 school year. This decision was very difficult, but it is a result of years of discussions within the community about the District's increasing financial challenges and our limited budget solutions to address them.

We recognize that while many have been part of these discussions over the years, there are also many voices in our community for whom this conversation is new. We sincerely value your input and want to hear your concerns and questions. Additionally, we aim to provide opportunities for you to gain insight into the budget and address any inquiries you may have regarding this decision.

Over the next three weeks, we will hold a series of small-group community meetings facilitated by a neutral third party. This will allow you to share your feedback and input. Your participation in these conversations will be critical in shaping the transition process and helping us understand how to best support you.

Pacifica School District Listening Sessions Dear Pacifica School District Staff and Community, We would like to invite you to join us for a listening session with a neutral third party regarding our District's current budgetary situation and the changes that the Resolution adopted by the board during the January 22nd meeting will bring to our community. We are hoping that this provides an opportunity for you to be heard and give input. There are 10 days with three 2-hour sessions. All sessions are in person at the Pacifica School District Boardroom, 375 Reina del Mar Avenue, Pacifica. There are 20 spots available for each session. Below please identify your top three choices. I am beside myself with the news about Vallemar 6-8 and OSS closing. It's always frustrated me off that our students are among the lowest funded in California even though we live in one of the wealthiest counties in the nation. It's now a done deal—end of an era. Ocean Shore was started because parents weren't happy with the school options in Pacifica. I don't know what I would do if my son was still in school. Any Vallemar/OSS parents on this sub? How are you and your kids doing?

Last night PSD's board of trustees voted to consolidate 6-8 grades from Vallemar and Ocean Shore School into IBL and relocate OSS into the Sunset Ridge Campus.

They did this because they believe that there is a budget deficit and that they had no other choice.

The story does not add up and the results are traumatic for our community.

If you or someone in your family plays Minecraft, there's a software that lets you import real-world locations into Minecraft. I forgot the name of it, but if you can import Pacifica and send a video of exploring it, I would appreciate it. I tried, but the software doesn't work on my Mac. And I think it would be trippy to see Pacifica in Minecraft.

Been job hunting for over a month sending in dozens of applications to corporate places but still can't land a job. Does anyone know of any mom&pop places or family owned businesses around the area that are looking to hire and will instantly hire me? I don't care if the place is shady I really just need a job desperately. I'm looking for food service places or stores/shops. Looking to be a server/barista/front desk, basically entry level positions with little to no experience required.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if we can go to some of the schools here and use their basketball courts during weekends. In the Manor area, for example, Ocean Shore or Good Shepherd don't seem to have any gates leading to their courts but I'm not sure if we can just walk in if there's no one there to ask permission to. My son doesn't go to school in any of these.

I want to draw attention to a concerning development in the Pacifica School District. The district is proposing the closure of Ocean Shore School (OSS) along with layoffs, despite the fact that voters just approved Measure EE adding parcel taxes to preserve and enhance education in our community.

Ocean Shore School has long been a cornerstone of Pacifica, not just for its innovative academic programs like Oceans 411, but for the incredible community built around parent involvement enabling rich, experiential learning. This culture, which is core to the unique legacy of OSS, is now at risk of being lost if the school closes. The relationships between students, parents, and teachers are what make OSS unique. As a parent of an OSS student the proposal deeply upsets me, but the impact will be broad. All OSS K-5th graders are planned to be sent to Sunset Ridge, and all 6-8th grade programs across the district will be shuttered and centralized at Ingrid B Lacy.

This proposal was kept under wraps by the board until last Sunday and will be voted on January 22nd, less than two weeks after we found out about it. We are doing everything we can to get the word out and intervene at the January 22nd board meeting, and have a change.org petition running that could use your signature support.

Our goal is to have the board slow down on this critical decision and involve the community in coming up with a solution that has a less severe impact on the students of OSS rather than trying to push through this proposal in secret. 

If the closure goes through, we'll lose more than just a school; we'll lose a community. Larger class sizes, fewer resources, and the disruption of a strong parent-teacher partnership will have a lasting impact on the education our students receive.

For anyone familiar with OSS or the Pacifica community, your voice matters. We need to speak out to ensure that this unique and cherished school remains open, and that our schools across the district stay strong and supported.

It has been a whirlwind of a week, but wanted to provide a few general updates. Most important, the board meeting where the vote is set to take place has moved to accommodate an anticipated larger audience.

It will be held on Wednesday, January 22 @ 6:00 pm in the Ingrid B. Lacy Multi-Purpose Room (1427 Palmetto Avenue). The Board President has signaled that they intend to move forward with the vote.

Heading to Pacifica next weekend for a girls weekend. Any good bars/cocktail places/ breweries you would recommend? We’ll definitely be going to Humble Sea. Trying to find other things to do since the Taco Bell Cantina is closed for renovations 😩

Does anyone know if steps are being taken up here in the North and South Bay to clear brush and take all steps possible to minimize fire damage right now? If not, it will have horrifying consequences. Oakland has had its budget brutally cut even though the hills are insanely high risk. Is there a possibility of community effort? Obviously citizens can’t retrofit buildings or attempt preventative burns but can’t we at least form groups to clear brush? And find out in advance what resources our respective cities have available in terms of water? Can’t people be incentivized monetarily to help our firefighters? They throw prisoners out there with 5 dollars a day payment instead? What in the Fiefdom IS this?? I live in Pacifica as do most of us on here I reckon and we have had a tsunami warning, a tornado warning, and an earthquake in 6 weeks. The only natural disaster humans can control in real time is fires. Is PGE being checked by local governments and fire experts? None of these steps are expensive or difficult if done in advance.

Anyone know when the Terra Nova track is open to the public? I just went today (Saturday around 11am) and it was all locked up.

Anyone else noticing that areas of Fairmont near the Safeway have a weird, unpleasant smell like chemicals from sewage (but not a poo smell) or maybe VOC's being release from the ground by recent earthquake activity?

Used to only smell it near my apartment, now I regularly smell it in several areas blocks apart...

I’m about to turn 24 years old so I’ve never experienced any major earthquakes in the Bay Area. After the 2 earthquakes today, it got me thinking, “Is Pacifica retrofitted for the Big One? What was the aftermath for the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake in Pacifica?” If anyone has any answers to those two questions, please let me know. I’d love to learn and be prepared.

Does anyone know how long this is for? Is it temporary? Is there any other access to the trails from Pacifica, because the San Pedro Park doesn't allow bicycles on the waterfall trail that leads to it
