Is there someplace worth driving to outside the SF Bay? Somewhere between Santa Rosa and Garberville... Ukiah has a Labyrinth, I hear?
Hey, I’ve been hearing a lot about major snowfall coming this weekend to the sierras. I was planning to go this Saturday with my family up to Pinecrest. I’ve been trying to figure it out online but I’m not sure whether if it is safe to go up to Pinecrest. If any of you guys know anything, I will appreciate it that very much! For context, I unfortunately do not have a 4x4 and I was planning on renting tire chains along the way if needed.
Hey everyone! I'm a college student in Virginia looking to spend my spring break (mid-March) at a Buddhist temple, meditation center, or spiritual community in Norcal. I'm specifically looking for places that are either:
My goals are to meditate, journal, spend time in nature, and connect with like-minded people. I'm open to any spiritual traditions but particularly interested in Buddhist practices. I'm willing to work (garden, kitchen, maintenance, etc.) in exchange for room and board. I have done a 10-day Vipassana retreat in the past that worked like this. I also love mushrooms so any place with easy access to that would be great
I know of Spirit Rock and Green Gulch Farm but would love to hear personal experiences or other suggestions. Also interested in transportation tips since I'll be flying in from the East Coast.
Has anyone done something similar? What was your experience like? Any red flags to watch out for?
Thanks in advance!
Hi all, I live in Sonoma County, and am trying to find a new town to visit with my husband for a weekend. Somewhere within 2 hours driving preferred. We love the beach, hiking, wine tasting, walkable downtown area. Would welcome any suggestions. TIA!
What are some bordering cities in Oregon, Nevada or other surrounding states that I can work in and still live in California. I just need to do this for a year.
Alone for Valentine's Day? You don't have to be — foster a rabbit with House Rabbit Society! We only ask for a 2-week commitment and we'll send you with all the supplies you need to get started. Learn more and submit a foster application at center.houserabbit.org/get-involved/foster. We are located at 148 Broadway in Richmond, California, just north of Berkeley.
You're also welcome to stop by our facility anytime during open hours to talk with staff or volunteers about fostering, and to meet the rabbits. We're open Fridays & Saturdays from 11 am to 4 pm, and on Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm.
Fostering is a great opportunity for someone new to rabbits to decide whether a rabbit is really the right pet for them long-term. It's also incredibly helpful for us, as it frees up a space at our facility so we can bring in another rabbit from a local shelter. Additionally, it helps us learn more about the rabbits in our care and what their personality is like in a home. And of course, it's very beneficial for the rabbits as they get to learn more about what being a house rabbit is like and get more comfortable with people!
Questions? Email foster@houserabbit.org and we'll be happy to talk more with you!
I saw Mendocino County now allows tiny homes on wheels as a permanent residence (as long as you meet several requirements).
There are some decent-looking properties up around Willits/Brooktrails area. I'm specifically interested in a place that already has a well dug. How is water availability in the area generally? And is water quality generally OK? Obviously I'd get all that tested, but just wondering if there are any known major issues before I dig deeper.
Also, how is the rural area just NE of Brooktrails? Is it sketchy at all or generally a safe neighborhood?
Just finished this one! Its perspective is just south of Durham looking Northeast from the rice fields towards Lassen-with snow geese flying and feeding.
In between the valley and Lassen Park lies Ishi Wilderness, where the Park Fire went through last summer. To me, it provides a glimpse of hope and light as to the right of this painting lies Paradise which has shown its resilience over the last 6 years.
I love the Northstate and hope to share its beauty with all of you.

Hey everyone! Initially starting as a newsletter project here at UC Merced, we just launched a new app called Coffi News which tracks California bills and city council reports. We convert their legal jargon into bite-sized easy-to-read content, so you can understand what our lawmakers are doing and how they are impacting you without taking too much time out of your busy day. We are working our way to expand this project beyond Merced & LA and into surrounding cities in NorCal! Would love feedback and support so we can make this information more accessible to everyone :)

You can now subscribe to the Android waitlist! We'll notify you once we get it up and running :)

Got this footage of either a mountain lion or a coyote in the folsom area. Note the tail that seems to be long but also the slightly pointed face in the beginning, also not the best lighting or quality. What are ur thoughts??
The places that have burned up here in Northern California have a special place in my heart. It’s where we explore. I hope to bring some of beauty of the natural world (even through destruction) to yours.
I took 8 days off of work and am trying to plan out a retreat like trip. I just wanna slow down, go on hikes, cook good food, and think about how I wanna enter this new decade of life (turning 40). Curious if you have favorite small towns that you'd recommend?! Thanks in advance!
Hello!
My friends and I are planning a trip to the pacific north west! We want to take a train and was to stop in Dunsmuir, however will not be able to rent a car. Are Ubers common here or is bus the most reliable source of transportation. Thank you for any advice!!! Appreciate it :))))
Hey I got a potential job offer in menlo park so I have been trying to consider places to move. I'd like to move some place with a bigger city atmosphere with other younger people. I feel like San Francisco is the only place like that in the area. However, the commute might be bad. Is there any advice anyone here can give me?
Hi all :] I'm a student at HSU and looking to suggest some kind of activity for me and my dad when he moves me out this summer. Last year we took a detour to the pygmy forest in Mendocino county and did a hike there. Is there anything cool that would add no more than a couple hours to the drive back that anyone can suggest? We've already done the chandelier tree plenty of times.
Thanks in advance!
I used to go to this place when I was younger, possibly early 2000s. It had video games that you could rent and consoles that you could play them on inside the venue. I believe there was also a play place like you’d find at Chuck E. Cheese. Also I don’t remember consoles more modern than maybe the original Xbox if that helps. Trying to find the name of the business.
Just like the title says, Im moving to Orleans this summer for a Job and I was just curious about things to do in that area or just any info on Orleans in general. Im from the Midwest and I currently live way down on the Central Coast so I don’t have a great handle on Orleans/Humboldt County. Any info is greatly appreciated!
Day 2 of showcasing my wife’s work. These are the 4 pieces in her Bidwell Bridge series featuring some of the most iconic bridges in Lower Bidwell Park in Chico, CA. What do you think?
