hey all, i live in the bay area and my partner is from the midwest. i want to take them somewhere cute this winter that will have more than, like, an inch of snow on the ground. as a kid i went to Truckee a few times and it was always great, and once i went to McCloud in about 2011 and there was a bunch of snow then as well. I’m thinking of how climate change in the past couple years has really impacted the snowfall even in the sierras. should i stick with McCloud or Truckee? or are there other hidden gems that would be good for couples looking for lots of snow? i’m open to anywhere.

Hi all! I have spent a lot of time in the southern Oregon/Northern California Coast. I’m curious about where anyone would go if a Cascadia quake & mega tsunami were to occur? I’m not a geologist, but it looks like Crescent City would be basically screwed with nowhere to run in time. The whole city is at sea level basically, and there is literally no high ground for miles.
Am I missing something? That 6.0 quake off of the Central Oregon Coast had me thinking about this.

I live near Lake Tahoe where most illegal farms are raided within days of discovery. I've been looking on Google Earth and have been trying to find more information about these sites. The ones I have looked at are near Montigue CA, just east of Lake Shastina and Post Mountain, near Trininty National Forest. I'm practically blown away that they counties and state choose to let these still exist when the Tahoe region counties are adiment on crushing them the second they pop up. Is it a political issue? financial? legal? I would love to hear about anyones personal experiance or read any sources in which I could learn more about this.
Hi all. I’m trying to create a good list of places that offer first responder discounts. I know id.me has a huge list, but I’m more looking for the local places that aren’t necessarily advertised as doing so online.
I live in Northern California so places in that region would be perfect, but if you know of anything regardless of location please drop the info here!
Thanks!

A few months ago I saw a tiktok of a place in a coastal town of a hotel that had a hot tub or bath on a private balcony that had a ton of bubbles in it. It was right on the coast line and had full view of the ocean. I bookmarked it but the video was deleted. Assuming it got too many views so they took it down, but if anyone has any idea where this was please let me know!

Our insurance carrier just informed me of a 100% rate increase on our home owner’s insurance. Yeah we live in the woods, landscape to CDF standards, inspected by them and a “firesafe” discount applied. I wouldn’t live anywhere else and this is the reality. choosing to live here I really can’t complain, we should be paying more than someone in town, but it is still a big bite.
