Any parents (or recent graduates) with POVs? Researching SSFUSD vs local catholic K-8 for our eldest child. Prioritizing academics, community, and extra-curricular activities. Thanks so much.
Moving with our pup to South City. If you have or know of an amazing vet in the area, please drop a rec here.
Willing to drive a little further for a better experience.
EDIT: Thank you all so much. Definitely feeling the neighborhood love. We’ll look into these!
Hello SSF. I'll be housesitting during Christmas and was wondering if there is anything open (even for takeout) on Christmas Day.
Hello
Could any of you suggest storage units that can accept shipping packages as I am moving to SSF and planning to store my items before getting a long term housing. Thanksss.
I've heard and seen of people having ATT Fiber in the area but I every time I call and ask about it to a rep over the phone they seem clueless about it. I tell them what I stated above and just say there is no fiber in the area but only DSL capped at 70mps. I really would like to get away from Xfinity and Verizon FIOS is not an option either. Im on Bettman on the south side, anyone have some inside scoops on the situation around the area? Cheers!
Hello Everyone,
My mom was attacked this morning on her morning walk in South San Francisco between Grand Ave/Chestnut Ave. They were able to catch the bastard who did it and my mom is thankfully okay although she did have to get stitches on her head. Never would i believe this would happen to someone i know, never ever would i imagine it would be my mom. She was walking past a man who was speaking to himself and as she passed he punched her face and continued hitting her on the floor. She was able to walk a bit albeit bloody and thankfully someone stopped to call the paramedics and the cops. Please be safe, my heart hurts and I pray this never happens to anyone
After posting this info on Nextdoor, I found out that the asshole actually went on a sort of spree beating one other woman and kicking her in the head and apparently causing a bunch of property damage before getting caught. Stay vigilant everyone…
Note: if you live around the area please let me know we are looking for video footage in the case he is let out, however we do plan to seek legal action. Also sorry if this is the wrong subreddit i wasnt able to post on r/bayarea over some dumb rule
We're new here in South San Francisco and this is my first reddit post 😊 I'm and indoors type of person, but I've heard a lot of people talk about their very active lifestyle. I'm getting inspired to start going outdoors and appreciate the city more. Noticed a lot of hiking places around the area, but I want to ask what place would be a good place to start? Maybe Something easy to get me and my partner commit to being healthier. Thank you!!
I have seen multiple posts about Found guinea pigs showing up in SSF on next door over the last 2 years. ADDITIONALLY, my dog has alerted me to not just ONE but TWO dead guinea pigs in the street, one on Linden and the other on Orange.
Thoughts?
Hi all, I’ll be moving to an apartment in downtown ssf but the unit only comes with one parking spot that my roommate is taking.
I know I can get a parking permit and park in Miller Garage / select spots in the public lots but was wondering if there are any other long term spots. The only issue I have with the city parking permit is that you can’t park for over 72 hours in the same spot and since I’ll be traveling for Thanksgiving/Christmas, it’ll exceed the 72 hours.
TLDR: Looking for long term parking space near downtown ssf.
Thanks in advance!
I see a cluster of hotels North, near Grand Ave & the 101, with restaurants West of the 101. Also a cluster of hotels South near Millbrae, with Millbrae having restaurant options. Are either of these two areas noticeably better than the other if you’re stuck in a hotel for awhile? No car. Public transportation into the city occasionally would be nice.
Thanks in advance.
If anyone is looking for house cleaning services this lady does a great job. She pays a lot of attention to details!

Hi everyone, this is my first Reddit post, and I could really use some advice. I'm moving to San Francisco for work, but I've never been there before. I'm looking for an apartment with a budget of $1,000 to $2,000. I know rent can be really expensive, so I want to be smart about my search. What areas should I avoid, and where would you recommend looking? Also, does it get really cold there? I've heard mixed things about the weather. I'll be working at 7000 Shoreline Ct STE 100, South San Francisco, and I'm hoping to find a place that's not too far from there. Any tips or whatever would be greatly appreciated!
I'm planning to ride BART from the SSF station this Friday. (I haven't parked at SSF Bart since before covid.) Will I have trouble finding a parking spot at 9:30am on a Friday?
Hi, I’m 30 and working in SSF. Are there any adult art classes that I could join to meet people. I’ve drawn before, and want to get back into it.
Anyone know? Somebody in the SF subreddit claimed that it was already available at Mission Bay. I'm high risk with my job, so sooner is better for me. Plus, it took me forever to get through the line for the last booster.
The master tennant has lived on premise for 10 years and the other occupants moved in around 6 months ago. They are in good standing, never late with payment etc. The landlord just sent a notice of eviction on the premise that they are moving family in. I find that highly unlikely and think it’s an excuse.
Are the renters protected under just cause? I read that the tenants are protected after 24 months after a new tenant has moved in.
If not what protections do the tenants have? In San Francisco, the landlord would need to prove and provide the identify of occupants moving in and so on.
Please advise.
Thank you
I’ve been getting my information here: https://www.smcgov.org/housing/tenants-protections-and-rights
I haven’t been but have to come soon for a work trip. Is it easy to drive around here? I know San fransisco it’s not advised to drive due to the car break ins but how is driving in south San fransisco in terms of parking for meals? Any food recommendations?
Looking for recommendations on places that are good to hang out for a couple of hours with a laptop between the hours of 6-8 PM. The library is only open until 8 PM once a week so I need other options. Absolutely no problem with a place where I can make a purchase such as a restaurant.
I just learned this today. The Burger King by El Camino and Westborough is being redeveloped. Anyone have an ETA?
Have yall heard of any local bands rooted in our biotech community?
I’m considering starting a 9-piece funk band (trumpets, trombones, saxophones, other winds, guitar, keys, drums, percussion) to jam out for fun and eventually headline the JPMorgan healthcare conference. Anyone interested in joining? Has anyone else done something like this already in our area?
Hi all,
I recently moved to a place near Sign Hill. I've been checking out downtown, but it's in that weird space where it's a bit close to be driving every day, but there's too many hills to be comfortable walking (especially since I've joined a gym there). I've been looking at e-bikes and e-scooters - does anyone have a recommendation or any experience riding them around the area?
Really appreciate any info you can share. We are on the wait-list for Westborough. We toured Parkside and a few others as well.
Open to spots in Daly City, Colma, San Bruno. Thanks!
Any parents of kids who went here or people who have went to Alta Loma in the past? Good? Bad? Thoughts?
Planning for schools for my kids in the future.
Hey all my bf and I got full time spots in South San Francisco we are going to car live for a bit while we look around. Where are the I guess is safe and where the places don’t care if you park. We do have Planet Fitness and will travel between the them but in between we need a point in the right direction. Thanks.
Does anyone remember a daycare known as The Children's Center (not the one currently on Tamarack Lane) that used to be in the vicinity of Ponderosa Elementary? I can't seem to find any record of it anywhere on the internet or by looking for likely sites on google maps. Any info from those used to live in South City in the 1980s would be extremely helpful!
I'm sure I'm not the only person noticing that more and more RVs and vans are moving into the area around Callan and King. On the Daly City side, they added a parking restriction, which immediately just pushed the RVs onto the SSF side. They are also moving further into SSF: Carter Drive, Seafood City supermarket, etc.
Enforcement in SSF is usually just a Post-It warning about an abandoned vehicle. The RVs just drive around the block.
I don't want to get into a big discussion about root causes or whatever else. But if nobody does anything, it will only get worse. I went to a town hall yesterday for us in District 2.
Our council member is Mark Nagales. mark.nagales@ssf.net
Let him know that it's an issue! Thanks.
Hey all! I'm moving from SSF after a decade living here and I had some questions about parking a moving truck I wanted to run through here before having to call San Mateo County.
So I live in an apartment/duplex somewhat near Sign Hill. The street itself is fairly small, about one cul-de-sac with three or four lines of duplexes stretching out from it. It's enough for me to park my car but a moving truck gets tricky.
To move out, what we're doing is getting one of those pod-like services, but using a big moving truck trailer that parks here for 2-3 days. When I moved in, the movers just used the fire lane's curb, but I don't think I can or should try that with a trailer sitting there for a few days.
Next to my apartment is the road from which all the duplexes branch off so in theory I could have a truck parked there. But people tend to park there often and sometimes some work is being done that closes off people parking on the road.
So here's my question at long last: how do I do that? How do I block off that side of the road for parking to put a trailer truck for two to three days without the government getting mad at me and trying to tow it? I've gone through this every which way and there's simply no other place near my apartment to put this trailer without blocking myself and my neighbors into their garage for days. I know SF has street blocking but in my research I can't find if the same is true about San Mateo County.
Anyone been in this situation and have some ideas?
Will be moving to San Francisco very soon, and would like to be close to the airport for my husband‘s job. Would love to find a nice apartment complex close to shopping and safe area to walk my dog. Anybody have advice on apartment buildings in South City? Been researching Bell South, the Landing, Altitude, The Linden and South City Station. . Thanks
