POKEMMO - PROFITING OFF NINTENDO

INGLISH
Nintendo, how do you allow PokeMMO to profit from your intellectual property?

They claim to be an emulator? That’s a lie.
They say they only receive donations? Another lie. The game is PayToWin, with over 26,000 daily players and many active consumers. These "donations" are just a way for PokeMMO to avoid your intervention.

Look, I “donated” $10 USD and received 1000 RP - Reward Points. With these 1000 points, I can buy Pokémon and items that make my progress in the game easier. If this isn’t profiting from your intellectual property, I don’t know what is!

Additionally, the game encourages piracy, as it only requires you to insert the ROM (downloaded from the internet) to use it.

I’ve played for over 500 hours, and I can confidently say they are making a profit from your Pokémon.
If you have any questions, I’m available to clarify.

Nintendo, please create an official MMO with the entire Pokémon franchise!

On This Day in Nintendo History: 4 Nin Uchi Mahjong; F-1 Race; Kirby: Squeak Squad

#On this day (November 2) in Nintendo history...

  • 4 Nin Uchi Mahjong was released in 1984 for the Family Computer in Japan. In this strategy board game, developed by Hudson Soft, create a hand of tiles from the different sets (bamboo, ball and character) and special sets (the winds, the dragons, etc.). Drop the tiles you don't need, and form a hand (Yaku). Hands score different points depending on the tiles used. At the end of eight turns a winner is decided based upon the points accumulated. There are two difficulty levels to choose from.

  • F-1 Race was released in 1984 for the Family Computer in Japan. In this racing game, developed by Nintendo, race around circuits in your Formula 1 machine, reaching the finish line within the time limit. Opponent cars will obstruct your path, swerving between the lanes. If you crash into any obstacle then your car explodes, and you lose valuable seconds before you can continue racing. Each of the three difficulty levels starts you on more complex courses, and features more aggressive opponents.

  • Kirby: Squeak Squad  (known in Europe as Kirby: Mouse Attack) was released in 2006 for the Nintendo DS in Japan. In this action-platformer, developed by HAL Laboratory with Flagship, someone has stolen Kirby's strawberry shortcake! Did King Dedede do it, or could it be The Squeaks: a band of intergalactic, thieving rodents? The powerful pink hero Kirby gets even more tricks this time, as you can mix his copy abilities on the touch screen to create brand new ones. Abilities also affect the environment.

What are you favourite memories of these games? How do you think they hold up today? Hash it out in the comments.

Super Nintendo World Osaka Underwhelming

Not sure what I was expecting tbh. Tail end of a long-ish trip to Japan and Osaka is getting epic rain.

On the one hand I'm sure the rain colored my experience negatively, but on the other the rain plus express pass got us on the two rides(Mario Kart and Yoshi) with minimal waiting..

The rides though. My previous experience with Universal was in Orlando. It was IMO geared towards older teens and adults, though obviously kid friendly.. Look, I have a Quest 3.. Mario Kart was super underwhelming. Maybe I was expecting a premium experience the likes of could only be made possible at a theme park selling $500 day passes.

I've read from others waiting 2-3 hours for Mario Kart! For me, I'd rather spend that time hiking and grab a beer then play a "real" game.

It's not that I didn't have some fun, I'm not a Debbie Downer. But it was almost embarrassingly underwhelming and cheesy from a tech standpoint. The Simpsons ride in Orlando was WAY more impressive.

So, maybe I was expecting Nintendo's polish and unreasonable execution with limited resources and got.. What felt like money grab schlock?

Which leads to the merchandise.. Look, I understand Snoopy and Peanuts is THE most popular charactera in Japan.. But you can find WAY higher quality Peanuts branded waters throughout the country; Snoopy Cha-Ya and etc. The crap in Universal was, well, mostly theme park crap.

Overall it put a smile on my face, but I can't help but feel the Universal theme park setting has devalued Nintendo's brand in my eyes; the company that releases the crazy high quality Amiibo figurines.

Why did the Wii U fail?

I think the Wii U was over hated. It got dumped way too early. I feel like it could’ve and should’ve been an extension of the Wii, didn’t need to be its own console. However, the high definition was quite an upgrade and it looks clean even today! The titles were good, I enjoyed Yoshis wooly world, of course Mario Kart 8, Mario Maker, the smash bros was great. Nintendo wants to forget all about the Wii U and I can see why, but it deserves a bit of appreciation and recognition! I hope…! Maybe I’m being bias with nostalgia. I supposed it inspired the Switch which is quite something. Let’s give a bit of credit

What next game or franchise needs to be added to Nintendo Music next week and why should be your favourite one? Creatively selfish answers

I was just thinking that now was in his job of adding new music everyone was expecting what the next game or series would me for a valuable reason or another, but deep inside I know we just want the game we like but disguised by a seemingly logic reason.

Nintendo Alarmo thoughts

I’m not really a collector of much, but I snagged an Alarmo because it’s one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. But I feel like they could be doing so much more with it.

For one, there should be a demo version of each alarm, so you can see what it sounds like without having to set an actual alarm.

Sleepy sounds should definitely be longer than 10 minutes. Having choices to set it for 15, 30, 1 hour or 2 hours would be awesome. I’m in love with the BotW sleepy sounds.

The LED should have a nightlight option. Why not? Seems like it has a lot of potential and isn’t really being exploited.

I love this thing to pieces, these are just my thoughts. It would be cool to see some updates/upgrades in the future. It’s still a new product, so I’m hopeful. Also excited to see what games they’ll add next! Praying for any of the Animal Crossing games or Mario Galaxy.

Nintendo Music existing makes me believe that NSO emulators will be released on mobile eventually.

It'd bring people in who don't own a Switch to get NSO. A nice frontend to officially play emulated Nintendo games on a phone?? People would pay for that. It'd be especially cool if save data synced between Mobile and Switch. I've thought for a while already that it's only a matter of time before Nintendo releases this, and now with Nintendo Music existing, a service for NSO subscribers on Mobile devices, it's not out of the question for Nintendo to release another one. It definitely seems they're branching out the uses of NSO to beyond the Switch, now.

Has anyone else noticed that the fire temple music from Ocarina of Time is edited? It sounds so strange on the Nintendo music app... Did they censor it yet again?

I am wondering how Nintendo makes their revenue from Nintendo Music.

It doesn't make sense that Nintendo gives Nintendo money because we listen to Nintendo music on Nintendo Music. How do you think they make their revenue?

Nintendo Music: Mario Kart Final Lap/Themes

Hear me out, they should put an option to enable final lap music for every Mario kart track that has one, or for tracks that have a different theme when racing (ex: koopa cape)

On This Day in Nintendo History: Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!; Game & Watch Gallery 2; Mario Tennis; Personal Training: Walking; Nintendo DSi Shop and more

#On this day (November 1) in Nintendo history...

  • Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! was released in 1996 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in North America. In this platformer game, developed by Rare, Donkey Kong and Diddy have been captured by the Kremlings, so it's Dixie Kong and new sidekick Kiddy to the rescue! In the final part of the classic Donkey Kong Country trilogy, take control of Dixie and Kiddy, and use their unique abilities to traverse treacherous terrain, seek out elusive Banana Birds, and defeat the Kremlings' new master, KAOS.

  • Game & Watch Gallery 2 (known in Australia as Game Boy Gallery 3) was released in 1998 for the Game Boy Color in PAL territories. In this action game, developed by Nintendo R&D1 with Tose, each game is playable in its original '80s version and in a remastered version with enhanced graphics, sound, and new gameplay. In Parachute catch the parachutists before they fall into the sea. In Helmet dodge the falling tools and head for the shed. In Chef juggle ingredients with your frying pan for as long as you can.

  • Mario Tennis was released in 2000 for the Game Boy Color in Japan. In this sports game, developed by Camelot Software Planning, the man who brought blue overalls to the tennis fashion world on N64 is back in action. The screen may be smaller, but Mario Tennis is every bit as fun on Game Boy Color as it is on Nintendo 64. Created by the same team who developed the N64 version, Mario Tennis for Game Boy Color is a much different game to its 64-bit brother.

  • Personal Training: Walking (known in PAL regions as Walk with me! Do you know your walking routine?) was released in 2008 for the Nintendo DS in Japan. In this exergaming title, developed by Nintendo NDS with Creatures, Inc., put a spring in your step and kick off an active walking habit! See your daily routing accurately like never before, simply through your DS and the Activity Meter. Comes with two unique pedometers that can track steps and walking frequency.

  • The Nintendo DSi Browser was released in 2008 for DSiWare in Japan. This web browser application, developed by Opera Software with Nintendo, was released for free. It was available since the DSi launched and is preloaded on newer Nintendo DSis and all Nintendo DSi XLs. This version uses the Opera Presto 2.1 engine, which is more advanced and standards-compliant. The Web browser had support for the HTML5 canvas object. To display images in a canvas, they must be cached in memory. Additionally, only the portion of the image in cartesian sector 2 may display at times.

  • The Nintendo DSi Camera was released in 2008 for DSiWare in Japan. This software, developed by Nintendo, can do more than snap shots. It has all sorts of zany, real-time filters for users to put on photos to squish heads and so on. However, it is subject to the low resolution of the actual cameras (0.3MP). Additionally, the program cannot recognise shots that a user had taken on other digital cameras for editing.

  • The Nintendo DSi Sound application was released in 2008 for DSiWare in Japan. This software, developed by Nintendo, is thematically similar to DSi Camera, serving as a sound recorder and editor (along with a low bitrate AAC music player. There are some notable features here, like Excitebike and Star Fox-themed equalizers, and modulators that make a user's voice sound like a robot or parakeet (Toy Story 3 is the only DSi enhanced game to use the DSi's audio modulator engine).

  • The Nintendo DSi Shop application was released in 2008 for DSiWare in Japan. This software, developed by Nintendo, allows users to download DSiWare games and applications, which are paid for with a Nintendo Points Prepaid Card (previously known as Wii Points Prepaid Card). Application prices follow a three-tiered pricing scheme. A DSiWare trial campaign, whose expiration date varied by region, formerly offered 1,000 free Nintendo Points to each DSi that accesses the DSi Shop. Over 500 downloadable games were available, varying by region.

What are you favourite memories of these games? How do you think they hold up today? Hash it out in the comments.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder has just been added to Nintendo Music!

Looks like they are going to be uploading frequently! This also marks a major Switch title that hasn’t seen a soundtrack release in Japan debuting here!

I honestly think this is a move they should have tried to make a long time ago..

Nintendo... Can we talk about your physical rewards?

Hey Nintendo! I wanna talk about your reward site physical rewards, not that they're bad by any stretch, just that with some series returning to the spotlight over the past year or two, I would've thought the selection of rewards would be updated to reflect that.

I'm talking about F-Zero 99 mostly but I'm sure there's other games that can easily fit under that statement. All I'm asking for is things like keychains of some of the machines or even backpack buddies of the pilots, or even a lanyard of the Blue Falcon or sticker set that has every machine and every pilot along with Mr. Zero and the Turbo Snail.

I have almost 5k platinum coins and I'd buy each of those rewards in a heartbeat if I could.

It's 2024 and people and even Nintendo fans still don't understand how Nintendo works

This thread is coming following the announcement of their app Nintendo Music.

Looking into youtube, reddit and twitter reactions, a lot of people ask why the heck wouldn't they just put it on spotify, apple music or yt music, which is honestly a very obvious answer, where you can summarize on 2 points:

  1. Control of the entire system, including not having to share revenue with another company more than they already have to do with google/apple

  2. Perks for NSO to give more reasons for subscribers to stay and for people who already wanted to buy it but needed more reasons to do so

It's really that simple but somehow a lot of people don't get. Other companies do it on spotify and other services because they don't have their leverage. A lot of things nintendo does is because they can, be it because their audience dont care or because the audience has been like this for decades while other companies dont have such luck.

And honestly thats kind of the point, Nintendo joined this industry 50 years ago with most of those years being under Yamauchi. His philosophy was shared between employees and executives including presidents iwata, kimishima and furukawa, among other employees older and new. Thats why nintendo will always have the same core values regardless of who runs it and who are the employees, as unlike what ppl think, iwata followed yamauchi and his successors follow it too, and so will others in the future. but what are those core values? Nintendo never said with those words but if you know nintendo history you'll understand easily:

  1. Nintendo values its IP the most and they build the whole company around it

  2. Nintendo does its own things regardless of the market and whenever they feel its fits, be it for hardware or software

  3. Nintendo focus mainly on gameplay first and foremost

  4. Nintendo wants to have tight control of its IP and products

  5. Nintendo wants to acquire and retain talent and make these talents into their philosophy, which is why they try to acquire companies only with similar mindset over games

When you think about these few parts of Nintendo business, you understand why this would happen and you can understand why a lot of nintendo decisions happen be it in executive, publishing or development level. So yeah its fairly obvious why nintendo music is a thing and its an expansion of what nintendo has been doing since 2015.

PSA - You need to press "All Tracks" to see all of a game's tracks in Nintendo Music.

It have seen confusion in multiple Reddit threads and on other forums where people have thought certain tracks were missing from soundtracks on Nintendo Music when they weren't.

When you select a game you need to press "All Tracks" to see the full list instead of a curated list. This for example takes the Breath of the Wild soundtrack from 62 to 211 tracks. It isn't as obvious as it should be, and it was only seeing tracks I couldn't find included in playlists that made me realise that there was something I was missing.

Nintendo Music vs Nintendo CD releases

If you didn't know already, there have been many soundtracks for Nintendo games released on CD before, usually only in Japan. There have not been CD releases for every game, but they have been fairly common since the Super Famicom era. I've noticed that most of the games on Nintendo music have also been released on CD. So, here are all the Nintendo Music games with corresponding CDs.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - https://www.discogs.com/release/30355970-Various-Nintendo-Switch-ポケットモンスター-スカーレットバイオレットゼロの秘

Splatoon 3 - https://www.discogs.com/release/27018426-Various-Splatoon-3-Original-Soundtrack-Splatune-3

Kirby Star Allies - https://www.discogs.com/release/14234593-Hirokazu-Ando-KIRBY-STAR-ALLIES-THE-ORIGINAL-SOUNDTRACK

Super Mario Odyssey - https://www.discogs.com/release/11703375-Various-Super-Mario-Odyssey-Original-Soundtrack

Mario Kart 8 - https://www.discogs.com/release/7426556-Mario-Kart-Band-Mario-Kart-8-Original-Soundtrack

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - https://www.discogs.com/release/12855336-Manaka-Kataoka-Yasuaki-Iwata-Hajime-Wakai-The-Legend-Of-Zelda-Breath-Of-The-Wild-Original-Soundtrack

Super Mario Galaxy - https://www.discogs.com/release/2867771-Mario-Galaxy-Orchestra-Super-Mario-Galaxy-Original-Soundtrack

Tomodachi Collection - https://www.discogs.com/release/10718793-Daisuke-Shiiba-Ryutaro-Takahashi-Riyu-Tamura-Asuka-Ito-Tomodachi-Collection-Platinum-Soundtrack-ト

Metroid Prime - https://www.discogs.com/release/2184129-山本-健誌-久馬-浩一-濱野-美奈子-藤原-玲-Metroid-Prime-Fusion-Original-Soundtracks-

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - https://www.discogs.com/release/3906638-Koji-Kondo-The-Legend-Of-Zelda-Ocarina-Of-Time-Sound-Track

Star Fox 64 - https://www.discogs.com/master/2029408-Koji-Kondo-And-Hajime-Wakai-Star-Fox-64-Soundtrack-CD

Yoshi's Island - https://www.discogs.com/release/8555837-こんどうこうじ-スーパーマリオ-ヨッシーアイランド-オリジナルサウンド

Super Mario Bros - https://www.discogs.com/release/1223293-Koji-Kondo-

As you can see, most of the games on Nintendo Music have been released on CD before. So, what games haven't been released on CD?

Pikmin 4, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Wii Channels, Nintendogs, Fire Emblem The Blazing Blade, Donkey Kong Country, Kirby's Dream Land, Dr. Mario.

It should be noted that some songs from the Wii Channels and Nintendogs are on the Touch Generations Sound Track: https://www.discogs.com/release/1582053-Various-Touch-Generations-Sound-Track-Touch-Generations-サウンドトラック

Fire Emblem The Blazing Blade has this release which only appears to have 5 songs on it: https://www.discogs.com/release/15343529-Various-Fire-Emblem-烈火の剣-Premium-Soundtrack

Donkey Kong Country has this CD with many songs from the game: https://www.discogs.com/release/6651244-Rare-Donkey-Kong-Country-Trilogy-Greatest-Hit-Soundtracks-From-Donkey-Kong-Country-12-3

And Kirby's Dream Land has a few songs on the 20th Anniversary sound track: https://www.discogs.com/release/3879055-HAL-Laboratory-Kirbys-20th-Anniversary-Soundtrack

So, what does this mean? I think it's safe to say that a game having a CD release makes it more likely to appear on Nintendo Music. I think that's why we got, for example, Tomodachi Collection and not Tomodachi Life. Having the tracks already mastered and ready to go for the CD makes it easier to put on Nintendo Music, however obviously they are not only doing games that were on CD. So I'm excited to see what we will see next on Nintendo Music, and I hope this doesn't mean they will stop putting out CDs for new games in Japan, they are all very high quality.

We've found that the Wii U can burn eShop games to DVD-RAM and Blu-ray (BD-RE). I've tested all "R" discs from CD-R to BD-R, and none of those work. The only thing left to try are the various "RW" discs: CD-RW, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW.

On This Day in Nintendo History: Battle Clash

#On this day (October 31) in Nintendo history...

  • Battle Clash was released in 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in North America. In this light gun shooter game, developed by Intelligent Systems, the governments of the world are fallen, and Earth's cities are controlled by Chiefs who rule in their Standing Tanks (STs). Mike Anderson watched as Anubis, leader of the Chiefs, murdered his father in order to take over the world. Now with his own ST Falcon, and you as his gunner, Mike aims to depose Anubis and end his despotic rule.

What games are not Nintendo games, but people commonly mistake them for being Nintendo games?

There's a lot of games that are commonly thought of as Nintendo games but are not actually Nintendo games. For example, most of the NES library is commonly thought of by people as being "Nintendo games."

Some franchises I've seen people mistakenly associate with Nintendo are:

  • Mega Man
  • Castlevania
  • Bomberman
  • Contra

What other games are not Nintendo games, but people think they are?
