Is the first game really "only" about 50h long according to HLTB? I played when it was released as a kid when I was about 11 years old. Back then the game felt like hundreds of hours long for me. Like the biggest game ever, probably bc this was the first jrpg with a bigger world for me back then. Also the Post Game was like giant in my memories. Iam thinking about replaying it, do you think its still worth these days?
I'm about 2 hours into ni no kuni 2 and I've realised that whenever I have a skill equipped to my O slot (PS controller) I can't use it no matter what and always end up dodging. The same skill works on any other button but whenever I use it on the O button it just dodges instead. I always have enough mana and the skill is not faded out. Has anyone experienced this glitch or knows how to fix it? I'm on Steam with a PS5 controller if it helps.
So, I'm just in the part where I aquired the ship and I'm starting to come to a realisation: combat remains the same! Now, I'm not sure if it's meant to be like this or I'm cheasing, but this is how it goes:
normal monsters: melee and melee alone.
bosses: cast my strongest spell until I'm out of mana, pray for an ultimate orb, and wait for mana orbs while running away, occasionally defending big attacks. The rest is just...waiting and buying time while I slowly chip away from boss's health cause companion is already koed when I wasn't looking.
Will it get better?
I was told by someone earlier that it’s important to keep Pebbles. I’ve kind of extended this to everything I’ve been gathering, including equipment. Right now I just got to Goldpaw and I have a ton of old, outdated equipment. I dunno if it’s a good idea to sell them or not.
Just attempted to get back into the game on my Switch and checked up on missables so that I could 100% it. I just defeated the Volcano boss and after checking the compendium found that Rusty's Nightmare is showing ??? for the Habitat. I'm assuming you only fight it once since its a boss so do I have to redo all the 20hrs in the game so far for this possible bug, or can you fight it again or is it possibly something that gets filled in later?
The only active side quest I still have that gives stamps is the Master Alchemist (which gives 6) I need at least 12 to get the last two Stamp Cards I need to get the last Merit Award I need. The errand board has nothing for me, and I've defeated the Guardian of Worlds. Can anyone help me figure out what I'm missing here
So I’ve done the Vileheart boss fight 3 times now and every time it starts the cutscene right after, my screen goes white and the game crashes. Has this happened to anyone else/ does anyone know a fix to this? Thank you
Is there a reason the Bounty creatures of Nobilia (ie Hubber Blubber, Collum and Fug) have familiar animations in the Creature Compendium (ie tame animation, eating animation, etc) despite them not being tamable?
I have a pain in my bollocks with Derwin and his annoying quests to gather familiars to be studied, I am on my last errand before facing Shadar and I need two Jumbo Star drops to evolve the familiars (Temu pokemon???) to complete it. I have been grinding out levels on the path from Paridia to the clearing at the end of the trail and I swear everyone in my party will have 100% maxed-out stats before I get the star crystals I need to alchemize my Jumbo Star Drops. If I wasn't trying to level up anyways, Charley Derwin's tasks would be seriously annoying but I've tried to kill two birds with one stone in this case.
Hi all,
I'm playing Ni No Kuni on Switch finally, and post game, trying to get my familiars high level.
The best area I've found for grinding is Billy Goats Bluff - South (under Perdida).
The Tokoto's sporn in this area MUCH more than the ones on Ugly Duckling Island. And the white ones in Ivory Tower I swear can possibly never turn up after HOURS of play.
When googling I didn't get much good advice on this, so thought I'd share in case anyone was having my same issue of finding a good quick method of levelling up to max out familiars.
Peace!
There is no save data bonus for NNK1 with NNK2 save for PS4, right?
I just won at Platoon for the first time (6 campaigns)!! Chips galore!!
How the heck do you get these guys?
Just got the dragon and I’ve been fighting these guys constantly and never can get the opportunity to tame one. Is there any trick that I’m missing?
As the title says, any tips I should know without spoilers? I see there’s different difficulty levels - does it matter what I pick now? Can I change it once I start the game or it’s stuck forever?
Thanks for your insights!
I started a challenge, described in this post. This is my party directly after upgrading Mornstar. I was going to record the whole playthrough, though I don't have the disk space so I'm just going to record the Shadar and The White Witch fights as every fight pretty much is going to resemble those two.
I started playing the first game yesterday (about 4h in - just finished rescuing king Tom). I was pretty slow, because as soon as I got a Wizard's Companion I've read what was available and I think I accidentally made it worse for myself. The game tries to tutorialize me heavily and it's frustrating, since I've already read the Companion and know this stuff. Running speed is just an abomination, especially on the overworld map (very slow compared to things like Dragon Quest). Does getting faster running speed in exchange for Merit stamps make it noticeably better? The story is fun enough, but soo, soo slow. I'm about to head to the desert and my question is - does it get less handholdy any time soon (no spoilers if possible)?
After 142 hours of grind I finally got 100% everywhere in Ni No Kuni. I realized I could’ve had 100% creature completion without the last two Golden Toko evolutions but I did it anyways. I’m proud of my true 100%.
Hello!! This is my first post in the Ni no Kuni subreddit. I just recently finished the main story of Ni no Kuni 2 Revenant Kingdom and I just wanted to share my thoughts.
First of all, can I just say how well this game is made?? Before I went into this, I had no idea about the world of Ni no Kuni. I hadn't even played the first one. I snagged this off of steam one day cause the discount seemed pretty good and the art looked pretty. Not to mention I'd heard that Studio Ghibli was involved with the production as well. But unfortunately I learned afterword that they didn't have any involvement, only with the 1st one.
Art
Regardless, I still really enjoyed this one and although Studio Ghibli wasn't involved, their distinctive art style still shone through. Tani really reminds me of San from Princess Mononoke. Both girls are wild and have red markings on their body. They are also both adept at combat and have spears as their choice of weapon. The art style also translated nicely to the 3d models.
Combat
I liked the combat. I thought it was interesting. It was a little bit overwhelming at first for me with all the different controls but eventually I got used to it. Honestly blocking just really doesn't do anything and most of the time its just clicking one or two buttons with an element button in between occasionally. Also for context, I don't really play a lot of JRPG's so sometimes the battle system gets a bit confusing in the beginning. I also didn't really like the chibi mode of the overworld and skirmishes. Felt jarring to go from highly detailed beautiful scenery to low poly environment and models. Skirmishes were also just not fun for me and seemed a lot like an underdeveloped side game.
Story
As for the story, while I thought it was good, it was also just really basic. Like there's really nothing deep in this story at all. But I think that's ok because it wasn't trying to have much depth. Although the story is very basic, it is executed very well. The simplicity of the story actually reminds me of a children's fairytale book which I assume was the point. The most exciting parts of the story were the parts that were unconventional or deviated from the narrative. The first 10 minutes of the game were probably the best. I don't think I ever laughed so hard as I did for a JRPG story. Like I go into this game thinking it's going be some generic story about saving the world (which it becomes in a way) and all of the sudden the president of the US has his city nuked and he gets isekaied to another world. I literally could not believe this game was an isekai. Like damm.
Also has anyone ever talked about that part where Roland collapses near the end of the story and has that nightmare fuel of a dream? Like holy shit, his son literally looks like a demon or something. It's instances like this that really catch me off guard in an otherwise average story.
As for the multiple plot twists in this story, honestly I didn't think they were super good. Like the whole ocean kingdom story. That ending kinda just came out of no where. Like really? The kingdom is in some sort of time loop and whatever. Also the reveal that Roland's soul was connected to the snake guy was just kinda eh for me. Idk, I just feel that a lot of these twists just came out of no where to solve some kind of plot hole or etc. Like they didn't really feel ''earned'' in a way.
I did enjoy the symbolism in the story. Like how Roland's position of ''uniting the world'' is similar to Evan's goal. The UN to Evan's uniting of nations.
I was a little disappointed though with the character development. Like none of these characters really ''change''. Like yeah Evan I guess does, but he's already so mature that it just doesn't feel like he grew. Same with the other characters. They aren't evil, it was really the snake guy all along, (even though it was implied it was still somewhat their decision). Don't get me wrong, they do take responsibility but I think it would've been so much more interesting without the snake guy influencing their decisions. Also characters just seem to change their mind on a dime. Like when Evan came back to his kingdom he was angry but then one blackout scene later, he is totally ok with Mausinger just taking over his kingdom and even Evan's father just feels a bit too forgiving. Roland also just seems to be totally ok with living in this world. Like he just seems to be unphased (in the beginning) at the events in his previous world. But this game is being told as a fairytale so I don't mind it too much.
I also wish Lofty (in his true form) looked a little like his smaller form a bit. Idk, just seems a bit jarring to go from Lisa Simpson to ancient Chinese dragon.
Conclusion
All in all I had a good time with the story. There doesn't seem to be much connection with the first game aside from a few Easter eggs, so it's really a stand alone. One thing I will say is that I'm surprised by the lack of guides for the game. Like for a game this big, I was expecting more resources for builds and etc. Even the wiki doesn't list anything for farming resources or quests. Thankfully YouTube and Steam have decent guides, but they are pretty small and the vids on YouTube seem to have a low view count for a decently popular JRPG.
Currently, I'm thinking about filling out the Higgle book as it seems fun to start with. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for end game DLC and 100%. Is this game hard to 100%? It seems that some of the achievements only under 1% have them. Also how to get exp fast end game? I know there's the tainted monster trick, but what would be good for getting to Lv 150 quick? I have all the kingdom exp skills checked already.
Also, is there a list for all resources in the game? Would like to just farm everything at the kingdom.
I'm playing the first game for the first time, when I got to ding dong dell I completed a quest regarding some enthusiasm, and after finishing it I went and got some more, just in case I needed more in the future.
Next, in al mamoon, there is a merchant who also needs enthusiasm, since I already had some stored from ding dong dell, I tried to give it to him, but it doesn't let me, it says nothing happens when I try to do so.
Next to the guy there's a woman also with enthusiasm, so I guess I have to take it from her, but the game doesn't let me because I already have some.
Did I screw up getting the enthusiasm from ding dong dell twice? Is there a way to get rid of it to pick the new one?
It's a side quest so I'm not worried about it, what worries me is that further in the main quest line I need to grab some enthusiasm from another person and the game won't let me because I have some and then be screwed.
I'm already like 10 hours in and I'm not gonna restart the campaign, so if this will happen in my future I rather stop playing it before investing more time in it.
Does anyone have a clue of what I'm talking about?
Is there a way to get them from kingdom buildings or similar? Looking on the ground, you’ll probably find several candies for every ten pebbles.
I hate just completed Ni No Kuni 2 but it is not showing as complete in my quests? Is this normal?i have the star next to my saved game and have gone through the end credits I even went to defeat the horned one twice to see if i could get this to complete but it wouldnt. Any tips?
Sorry if that's a dumb questions, but I'm quite new to JRPGs in general.
I'm currently playing Ni No Kuni 2 and I'm really impressed by the visuals. You could screenshot any scene and it would look like a frame from a animated series.
However, half of the time, when walking through the world, there's this "chibi mode", which has less details.
Now, I'm wondering: What's the point of that mode? I would understand it, if it was a more "high-level" view of the world for fast-travel, but it's not. I'm following paths, crossing bridges etc.
Is this simply to safe money, because making the whole game beautiful would be too expensive? Does it have some other meaning?
Thanks!
I tamed Golden Toko in the well after about 35 encounters. Now I’m trying to tame a Golden Tokotocold in Ivory Tower while grinding exp to 100% the bestiary. Right now I’m at 31 Golden Tokotocold but haven’t caught one yet.
My question is… is it better to try to catch + level another Golden Toko or I should be able to catch a Golden Tokotocolds soon? Thanks for your insight!
I know I could do some post game stuff, but just doing side quests, isn't really fun.
I was thinking of playing a second time, but doing things differently.... first of all, I learned how to level much easier, so grinding levels won't be boring this time... I also learned of an infinite money glitch for the switch... so won't need to worry about money grinding.
I also learned, I should talk to NPCs, for recipies..
Another reason I'm thinking of doing a second playthrough, is I got no plans on buying another game til the switch 2 comes out... so I want to stretch out the fun.
So I just finished the game and am a bit overwheled with all the DLC and post game stuff.
Anyone can tell me what order I should tackle things? Ideally would like to avoid grinding if I can.
Any tips also welcome.
