So I've been growing out my natural hair (3a/3b) for over four years now. It's been a lot to work with and frankly exhausting. My hair is now down to my waist (though I need to trim it since it's dead and dry at the ends) and fully natural.
A bit of background: I had a relaxer a few years ago when I was 12 because it was just so much to handle (white people family) and was told it'd last only 6 months (biggest lie of my life). Eventually I grew it out and chopped all the fried hair off and ha e been natural for a while.
Here's the thing, I've been getting more and more exhausted each time I try to do my hair. It gets tangled easily, only looks good on the first wash day, and overall exhausting to deal with. I got box braids during late July through August and beginning of September (loved it - I did get braids often as a child cause my mom hated dealing with it and would just send me to the salon) But over the years my hair line, specifically near my right side part, has been thinning out so much that it hurt if anyone pulled on it at all. I can't put it up in a ponytail or bun because of how much it hurts. So I'm not sure if I shoulder get braids again, push through with my curly hair (I've got a lot on my plate at the moment though) or just give up and get a relaxer.
For extra info: I don't have a bonnet and can't find any anywhere near me and can't order online. I do use leave-in occasionally, brush my hair from down and go up (though sometimes it feels like I'm breaking it apart still) and use a hair mask as often as I can (usually 2 weeks apart) I've also been struggling with mental health so everything is basically falling apart.
My hair has been the one thing that I genuinely find attractive about myself and gives me a boost of confidence but I don't know what to do with it anymore. Please if anyone can give me any advice I'd appreciate it greatly.
Y’all I missed the Doux 40% sale :(. Please let me know if yall missed it too or if you think there’s a chance they’ll bring it back for Cyber Monday? 🥴 should I buy Camille Rose while they still have their sale?
Hi everyone!
About 2 weeks ago I straightened my hair for the first time in 3 years. I have noticeably looser curls in a small section of my hair the rest looks fine visually but overall I feel like my hair has less elasticity.
Last week I used Olaplex No. 3 and today I used the curlsmith bond salve and the curlsmith multitasking conditioner as a deep conditioner.
I have low porosity hair so I want to be conscious of how much protein I’m introducing to my hair. Would it be okay to use the Olaplex No. 3 and the curlsmith multitasking conditioner in the same wash for a few weeks or is there something better I could be doing?
I’m planning on getting boho braids and I was wondering if it would be possible to use my natural hair for the curls and use synthetic for the braids?
Hey!
I have fine, high porosity curly/coily hair. I got a trim a few days ago, because my ends were very bad. I just detangled my hair and I still noticed a few small hair pieces along with some shedding. While breakage is obviously not good, do you think it's somewhat normal and to be expected when detangling curly hair? I don't think I have ever had a detangling session without some breakage. How does detangling look for you, if you have long healthy coily hair? Do you see a bit of breakge or barley any?
Edit: I attached a picture of my hair in the comments. That was my hair about 6 weeks before the cut. I don't think it looks super unhealthy (ends were bad though) but I might have to reconsider the health of my hair.
I shaved my head for a big chop a few months ago and it is long enough for individual protective styling. I did box braids and loved it.
I wanna regrow out my hair without having my own hair out too much. Once it’s long enough I might experiment with crotchet styles, but I wanna know if it’s bad to always have my hair done in braids.
I do them myself usually and don’t use TOO much tension, especially lighter on the edges etc.
I wanna regrow it back to where it was!!
Just took my wig off after three days and my hair looks like this and it’s itchy. I washed, deep conditioned, and cornrowed my hair last Saturday This is a continuous thing where after a few days of a new hairstyle I get so much dandruff. What could be the reason and what can I do to fix it?
Not a review lol
This is in no way shade to any straight naturals on here. But am I the only one that hates when my hair is straight lol? It’s like I have to be extra cautious about how I shower, how I go into a hot tub/pool, or being hyper aware of the weather. This straight up gives me anxiety and I honestly cannot be bothered lmao ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Thanks for listening to my TED talk lol
My mother is in her fifties and lives in New York City. She used to have crochet loc installs and regular dyes at salons, but she eventually was forced to start doing her own hair due to the stylists’ inability to take proper care of it, which caused her a good deal of damage and breakage. However, she still has a regular job and would like to find a stylist who could help her and allow her to save some time.
Are there any stylists in New York City who specialize in taking care of fragile natural hair, specifically for older women?
[Apologies if you’ve seen this on another page! I’ve posted this in a few different communities on here]
I don’t know what my next time should be. I was thinking a kinky/curly sew in. But then I stared thinking about a half wig instead. But then I thought about boho braids which I already have and have been having for the last two hairstyles. Or boho twist. I really don’t know but I did want like curly. Like a leave out or sew in.
I'd love to know what trips, tricks, and advice people have for this!
For example, my hair has a range of textures - I don't think Pinterest references do justice for me! So when I do a chop and change, I use my own intuition.
When the hair is shorter, it can also appear coilier than when it's grown
For me, right now it's shoulder length pulled but can appear very short! The flexibility is great, however styling it can have a different look (perhaps a look too long for me)
I'm thinking of chopping maybe 3-5 inches on certain parts myself before the spring, but also considering how it may appear - I wonder what people's experiences are!
As title, I'm fed up of having to drag products through my hair rather than them just applying without resistance. How are people just applying product smoothly? I've tried gels from giovanni, umberto giannini, as i am, eco styler, cantu. Gel once would just glide over my hair (it wouldn't necessarily create hold, but wouldn't cause drying on impact). I always apply product to wet hair and use leave ins underneath these days, but that doesn't seem to truly help. I've tried the camille rose butter gel but it caused buildup and zero definition. I'm fairly sure I do need a styling product with hold as my hair frizzes/loses moisture with just leave in (I believe my hair is currently high porosity).
Today I used a combo of mielle pomegranate and honey leave in (the best leave in I've found for my hair, omg the slip) under the taliah waajid curly curl cream and the drying was lessened but still there. I feel like mousse might have the same issue and creams might overload my hair but would love ideas.
hi!
i wanted to achieve this look by only using human hair extensions. one 30 inch and two 16 inch bundles and two 14 inch bundles. i want to be able to effortlessly have this hairstyle in for months on end or maybe a year. i really want this to be my signature look. i plan on refreshing and redoing every 6 weeks or 4 weeks. i plan on washing once every week or two weeks and moisturizing my scalp and length of my hair. i have 4b/c hair and i worry about my hair peeking thru these braids.
any tips on how small i should do it and anything else? thoughts on keeping it in and refreshing it?
all opinions are welcome!
Fresh out the shower everything’s good. Shirt on, everything’s bad.
I have low porosity hair and conditioners/deep conditioners/ hair masks can't moisturise my very dry hair. I am wondering if the SM low porosity conditioner could do the trick? Or is as useless as all others?
I'm looking for a revair blowdryer for my hair but it's super expensive .
Stylist put gel or edge control on my part and edges.
I usually stay away from gel and edge control if I press my hair because I think there’s water in most of them and even though my hair is low porosity, it always finds the moisture in the product, soaks it right up, and I’m left with wavy or curly hair wherever the product was placed.
I got a Brazilian Blowout the other day and I assumed the stylist knew what she was doing and trusted her and the parts where she placed the gel slightly reverted. It’s not fully curly but it’s also not as straight as the rest of the hair.
Do y’all think my hair is ruined or should I just blow dry my roots straight, leave it alone for another day or two and hope the treatment is still soaking in?
I have relatively long baby hairs/edges and I normally just leave them alone and let them do their thing, but I've recently gotten into wearing wigs as a protective style and to have more versatility in styling my hair, but my hairs keep sticking out under the lace of the wig and I don't want the lace to rub against them and rip them off and it also looks bad in general especially if I'm wearing a wig that isn't dark/black. I normally do just half wigs for this reason, but I'm bored of just wearing headband/half wigs over and over.
If I (gently) brush back my edges again and again, will they break? I don't want to lose my hairline since my hair is quite fine, but I also want to wear wigs and have fun with them while not having to worry about/style my own hair
Also, while I'm here, are there any other things I can do to prevent damage while wearing a wig?
Alrighty yall! I got my silk press for the season. Went out for a run and got this headband wicker off Amazon that did absolutely nothing and my edges were sweat out! Those who are active what do yall do to protect your hair?! All recommendations welcome!
P.S will prob not get another silk press after this disaster 😂
Thank you!
