I just washed my hair and applied a shea moisture hydration masque to a deep conditioning treatment and I love how it makes my curls look because it is so thick. Of course I can’t leave it on all day but with it my curls don’t shrink. Is there any thick product that is heavy enough to way my curls down without leaving too much white in my hair?
Thanks!
I am a mixed woman who usually wears my hair out/down. I have noticed recently that my hair is not smelling as nice as it used to--even a few days after a really good wash. This may be because I am no longer putting an excessive amount of product in my hair and masking it? I am not sure.
I try to wash my hair every two weeks, but this is not always possible, and I sometimes have to push it off another week due my college work load and my job.
I was wondering if there was anything I could do on the daily to make my hair smell better all around. Any advice is much appreciated!
My teenager has not let me do her hair in almost 10 years. She let me style her wash and go and it’s glorious! She’s almost always in wigs or braids so this was a major mom success.
I’ve been working out a wash day routine to minimize tangles and single strand knots. I think it’s great but maybe I could tweak it more.
I’m a bit concerned I might not be thoroughly cleaning my hair enough since I’ve switched to washing my hair in twists. The shampoo doesn’t seem to lather up as much, but I’m not sure how much that matters.
Here’s my routine for context:
any help is appreciated, hope you all are having a lovely sunday 🤎
I have been at this length for 7+ years now. I have grown to LOVE my hair but would also like to start retaining more length. As a very brief routine, I get my hair trimmed every 4 months, wear box braids for two months then leave my hair out for 1-2 months (will do chunky braids or mini twists during this time), I wash my hair every other week and always deep condition as well as blowdry, and I use leave in conditioner, hair grease, and jamaicain black castor oil.
So for those of you have been stuck at this length or any other, what finally got you out of it?
Hello natural peeps!
I would like to start being a straight natural girlie but have no idea where to start. As a little backstory on my hair journey, I was natural up until I was about 12, my mother is biracial and just had to deal with her manageable curls, but my father is black and this combination left me with rough kinky tight curls my mother could not manage. Growing up I wasn't allowed to do my own hair because "I would just mess it up" so I grew up with a fear of doing my own hair. I always left it up to my mom or hair salons and both options made me feel like a burden. I never felt good getting my hair done, Ive never felt like anyone cared to actually care for it but rather "just do it and get it over with" even if they were pulling clumps out of my head or burning my scalp.
Until the age of 12 my hair was always in braids, twists, or bantu knots. But of course I wanted to fit in with the other little girls hair and my mom permed it. This began the downfall of my hair. My hair was constantly greasy, stringy and so many little strands would just break and fall off. I would never forget getting my first "big girl" job at 20 and having to perform cpr in front of a class (if anyone has ever done this you know you have to give it your all and ignore everything else in the world to give your adequate chest compressions, if your shirt pulls up, ignore it, bra strap falling down, ignore it) and omg the amount of strings of hairs that fell off when I was giving chest compressions, just laying there on the dummy was so embarrassing. I knew something was wrong but ignored it.
That summer I went on to get box braids, I left them in for a month and when I took them out, oh my goodness, you would've thought I was the black version on Cynthia the doll. My hair loss was so embarrassing, It never crossed my mind to go natural but now I was forced to. I absolutely refused to put any chemicals or heat in my hair because the damage was just too much to bare. I grew out my straight ends, cutting as I went and thankfully covid came and I was able to transition without the public eye. In 2023 I started rocking my curls and i absolutely love my curly fro/puff , wearing my hair out like that is my absolute favorite hairstyle hands down.
But now coming to the end of 2024 I am afraid to say I cannot maintain this curly life. I have majority 4C hair, maybe like two small sections of 4B in the front but eh not really. My hair constantly gets little fairy knots, its always knotting and I do not believe i am doing my hair any favors constantly wetting it and globbing it with either gel or mousse. My hair doesn't seem to be thriving and honestly im tired of the curly process (finger detangling, shingling, finger coils, etc etc) . Everyone says you have to leave it alone and I agree now, curly hairstyles do not equate for me leaving it alone.
What advice can you give me? A routine for the girls that use heat, straighten their hair? Do you blow dry only or blow dry and use a flat iron? Has it made your life easier? Is your hair now thriving? What tools do you recommend? What products? helpp pleaseee I am lost and struggling.
TLDR: Was never thought to care for hair, after years of just trying things I am tired and just want the best for my hair. I love my curly look and I scared of heat but I do think that may be best to just leave my alone? Please help
I took a shower and did my hair this morning because usually a day before I go to do something important I like to put a lot of time into my hair so for the rest of the day my hair is typically soaking wet until the next morning. Well after I did my hair i received a message that I got an interview!! Yay for me! But the interview is today in 40 minutes.. I don’t want to walk into the interview with my hair dripping and I don’t have a diffuser..so for ten minutes I just started shaking my head like crazy and then I stopped and realized oh wait..this could just turn my hair into a frizzy mess. So, what other solution than to turn to Reddit for help.
I have 4c, low porosity hair. I am looking for products (shampoo, conditioner, leave in, twisting cream) that won’t break me out. Trying to stay away from fragrance and oils.
Hey everyone, I am dealing with a psoriasis flare and so after about a week, my scalp is unbearably itchy and flaky. This makes braids and other styles that take a long time to do not worth it. Anyone have recommendations for protective styles that are quick to do and quick to undo for scalp treatment? Preferably more professional styles that I can wear during the work week.
Thank you!
Need to go from thick dense corse hair that can only be work in a fro, can’t even be slicked down to hair that looks the way my hair does when it’s sopping wet
Want my curls ultra defined and the ability to wear them down or tie them back with no gel. Treatment is expensive and videos either show the hair straightened but not the 1st wash result or fail to disclose their natural hair texture. Does anyone know if organic Keratin Treatment is what I’m looking for? Does it work to get all hair types super defined
can you use heat tools on hair with conditioner on it? (mostly dry and with heat protectant on it)
So, a girl from my biblical academy yesterday looked at me and then said my name in a condescending tone, and asked "when are you going to change your braids ?"
she's not even attractive, and her hair isn't even all that, she got short hair so probably envious.
I know my braids weren't well done yesterday, but i still think it's out of pocket to comment on it, it's none of her business.
I told her "i could ask you the same question." "why don't you change your hairstyle ?" I fake laughed and smiled to cover any hostility, but now i regret not being more hostile.
I'll tell her next time what she said was offensive, and it's not up to her to tell me what i should be doing with what literally comes out of my own head.
I live in a very rainy country, and with my fine strands, that means my silk press becomes a fluffy press the second I step outside. I know that keratin treatments are the go-to solution, but that isn't really in my budget at the moment. So, does anyone have any alternative tips on how to maintain the press in humid weather?
I have 4c hair and I bleached it blonde at the end of October. I want to do finger waves for a friends wedding in December but my hair won't lay down properly because of how kinky/curly it is. Is it just not possible for me to have fingerwaves without having to relax/texturize my hair?
I just had one of my easiest wash days ever, so I thought I'd share. It took me 45 mins to shampoo/condition and 30 mins to fully detangle and I think doing loose mini twists changed the game for me. I've been experimenting with protective styles (no added hair) for a few months now, and this is the best outcome I've ever had. I had about 112 twists and they only took me 5 hours to install with brushing through each section. The style lasted me 3 weeks and I rarely had to redo any of the twists. My hair also looked a lot fuller and had more volume. If you're struggling with mini twists, I highly recommend looking into loose twists on YouTube!
I used to use Pantene on my hair and honestly I don’t even know why I stopped. My hair wasn’t damaged or thinning out whenever I used it, I decided to be a trend hopper and start experimenting with different hair products and i honestly regret so much. I currently used shea moisture and my mom was saying she feels like the shea moisture makes her hair feel thin and I was kinda feeling the same exact way with my hair. So now I’m jumping back into Pantene and if anyone uses it please let me know which product you use from that brand 🤗
okay so basically the last perm i got was in january and ever since i’ve been growing out my natural hair. now that it’s actually starting to grow, it reminds me of 4C hair and today i blow dried my hair twice and it still went back to its curls. so my braider blow dried my hair…dry and that shit hurt 🙁 any tips on how to stretch ur hair or blow dry 4C hair more easier?
Hey guys my first Reddit ever !
I just wanted to know what the best alternative to a revair since they don’t sell them in the uk . I’m currently using the revlon picture attached but wanted to know if there was something better
I’ve been practicing but this is my first time really being somewhat successfully with cornrows this small. What do we think? Constructive Criticism and advice would be appreciated.
Here’s the article if anyone’s curious: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/03/160304093239.htm
I’m wondering—are we aware of our hair thinning or hair loss but still hesitant to bring it up to our doctors? Is it more of a ‘deal with it myself’ mindset, or maybe feeling like it’s not taken seriously?
Is this really true for most of us? Why do we keep this to ourselves? I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts.
