I plan on putting him behind the candy. Thought it was a pretty cool idea for Halloween (no pun intended).
While I do understand english, this is not my main language and tehre are several different accents on the game. Specifically the main party, where are their accents from?
For me I believe that all of them would gather around to complain on how they are so easy to risk their life for someone else but admire how no matter what they stayed with them for a long time
How’s the performance?
I just beat Vengeance route on Hard and looove this game. Probably my favorite turn based battle system ever.
I want to collect all other demons before I do the superbosses, but I know some are route-exslusive.
Is it conductive to just rerun all other routes + their endings on easy/normal to get the missing demons? Do I lock myself out of any trophies by doing this?
Any extra tips?
So I’m about an hour into the first persona game. And at the start of the game, the cast was debating on how to summon their personas. And maki mentions “the persona game” maybe this gets explained later, but how did they know about persona before they actually summoned them? Maybe it’ll be explained later but I was just curious
It's the post-game. You've slain dozens of gods and eldritch entities at this point, depending on the game and ending you may even have slain God himself.
And then you get to the secret superboss and he's just... some guy. No formal training, like Arena-fighter Aleph (who may also have had some gene modding as well) or the elite soldier SJ Protag. Not fused to supernatural creatures like the Demi-Fiend or Nahobino. No special powers whatsoever - he can't even use magic.
And he still manages to kick your ass.
It would be a hilarious contrast to other superbosses in the series. Even better/worse, he still has bullets that will just endlessly spam charm or sleep on your party and he brings along the Heroine to stunlock you into oblivion. Would be funny to essentially have the POV of the average SMT1 enemy as you face down a random guy who refuses to let you have a turn.
I'm currently getting into smt by playing the games in release order, I have already finished SMTI and II and I'm just starting nocturne
I know TDE has the most content but. Is it feasible to go for it on a first playthrough and mostly blind? If the answer is yes, Any tips would be appreciated
Sometimes recruiting demon can become very funny, especially when they ask for life ( by a lot )then become offended, proceed to insta kill by hitting the exact weakness.
Currently playing Canon of Vengeance, I enjoyed my time with both Tao and Yoko, to the point that when the time to choose between them came, I found myself on a precipice. Choosing 'I'm glad you're okay' made me side with Yoko, and choosing 'We'll stop you' made me side with Tao.
Since I lost to Tiamat in both choices, I decided to grimoire up my demons and optimise their movesets (thank you Phys Pleroma/High Phys Pleroma/Bloody Glee/Murderous Glee/Critical Zealot/Brave Blade Eisheth), and make two separate saves. I defeated Tiamat, and then Mastema first, feeling horrible about betraying Tao no matter what. Then I defeated Tiamat again but lost to Tehom, so I took a break from the game.
Today, I had the free time to come back and fight Tehom again, but I mashed A and loaded into the Throne Room, with Lucifer waiting for me on my Chaos save. I opened the save screen with the D-pad to look at the save, got distracted, and thought I was on the load screen. So I selected the Law save, and instead of loading into it, saved over it with the Chaos save.
Fuck me dead, this is bullshit. I have to go through the entire fucking canon of vengeance again to see the other ending. Including Metatron. It better be worth it.
I know I can just use my Lv. 83 character in NG+ but doing so doesn't feel like I'm actually playing properly. It's not SMT if it isn't driving your face into the mud.
Critically panned in 2013, critically acclaimed in 2024. Welcome back, Shin Megami Tensei IV.
Metaphor ReFantazio Endgame Spoilers
I have 15 days left in game before I confront Louis in the giant red storm for the final time. With that said I started to think, is it safe to label Louis as a “Chaos” rep? His vision for an ideal world through strength and turning people into humans to see if they overcome just shouts at me that he is a mainline SMT Chaos rep. Or, is he a Persona-esque villain where he’s the complete opposite of the protagonist because he won’t adhere to social links like Junah mentions?
i just saw that it was 30% off until tomorrow, im really low on money right now and have a huge backlog of games... but i know i want to play it eventually. If it's unusual for it to have such a big discount then i will probably buy it so i have it for later, but if it's going to go on sale again eventually i should probably just wait. what do you think?
I'm at the part where I'm collecting body parts and cannot fucking remember how to get back to the stone dude you're supposed to use a dis-stone on. Someone please give me like a dumbed down uber baby set of directions because I have spent five hours straight going in circles this is completely eluding me
I’m submitting some miscellaneous annotations for a read of “Doctor Faustus” for my Renaissance Literature class, and I decided to write a bit about how Mephistopheles is translated into SMT V. We really only needed a sentence or two, but I got carried away. Hopefully my professor doesn’t see Mara when he looks up SMT V demons.
In his design from SMT IV, Mephisto is dressed in noble red robes with sharp nails and two golden horns. While friars usually wear loose-fitting clothing, Mephisto has mostly tight-fitting noble clothing. His cape, however, gives him a flowing and loose silhouette similar to that of friar’s robe to represent him being disguised as a holy figure. These features are associated with Mephistopheles and his magic, him giving the Knight horns at the request of Faustus and threatening to rip Faustus apart with his claws. In his description, the Clown references the “long nails” and “horns” of the devil. Just as Mephistopheles is represented by the Clown in the play, SMT strengthen this connection with the clothing design. Mephisto’s design is reminiscent of a jester’s, the full-red outfit alluding to hell but also the bright red colors of court entertainers. In a design in a previous game entry, Mephisto has two floppy horns reminiscent of a coxcomb, strengthening his connection with the Clown. He borrows the clothing designs of Renaissance nobles to mix with those of court jesters, making a mockery of the holy upper-class while displaying his perverse authority Across his waist is a rapier attached to a golden belt adorned with precious gems of different colors, alluding to the glamorous material gains that he gives Faustus.
In regards to his function in the game, Mephisto specialized in inflicting the “mirage” status ailment while reducing “defense” and “evasion”. Out of the three “stats” that can be lowered, Mephisto reduces all of them except for “attack”, representing how Mephistopheles has no interest in dulling the primal and self-indulgent capacities of Faustus. Instead, the devil targets Faustus psychologically, trapping him in a “mirage” of hedonism for the 24 years the contract bound them. Furthermore, Mephisto is uniquely able to cast “Walpurgisnacht”, a reference to the “Walpurgis-Night” scene in Goethe’s play “Faust” where Mephistopheles encourages Faustus’ demonic indulgence. The animation of Walpurgisnacht shows a ritual circle behind Mephisto, alluding to the summoning ritual Faustus performed in Scene I.
Aside from the obscure references, the quest centered around Mephisto is an allusion to the role he played in “Dr. Faustus”. Mephisto makes a deal with a doctor seeking the unholy power of creation, allowing the man to live forever until he completed his research. When the scientist lives to see his experiments succeed, Mephisto reminds him of the signed contract and takes his soul. While this scene is a simple allusion to the plot of “Faustus”, what I find more interesting is that Mephisto says, “A ‘mortal’ is no different from a demon.” Mephisto references the idea that Faustus and other reprobates are analogous to demons, providing evidence that SMT’s Mephisto believes Faustus has been consigned to hell from birth.
The most fascinating aspect of Mephisto is how he is “summoned”. SMT uses a system where demons can be fused to make other demons, and Mephisto can only be summoned by fusing the deities Sraosha, Orobas, Kaiwan, and Belphegor. I’m not entirely sure why these four demons in particular are necessary, but I think that they all are related to Mephistopheles in some way. Orobas, a Goetic demon and prince of hell, is said to be summoned first in the form of a horse and then turns into a human at the request of the summoner. He is capable of granting infinite knowledge and helping his summoner in whatever ways they desire. Kaiwan is a Mesopotamian deity in the Bible that, if worshiped and summoned, will lead to that person’s destruction. Belphegor, as the embodiment of sloth, tempts its victims into lives of selfishness and basic pleasures. While those demons have some connection to Mephistopheles, Sraosha seems to be a figure that directly opposes his role in “Dr. Faustus.” In Zoroastrian myth, Sraosha is the messenger angel sent by Ahura Mazdā that destroys devils who seek to tempt men and represents humanity’s connection to the word of their god. As such, Sraosha might be representing not Mephistopheles but the Good Angel. Sraosha’s purpose in its mythology is the same as the Good Angel’s purpose in “Dr. Faustus”, being a figure meant to protect humans from the influence of the demonic. Since a psychomachy cannot exist without both sides of the conflict, the existence of Mephisto is dependent on the existence of the religious system that he would defy. If we accept this premise as true, could Sraosha being required for Mephisto symbolize how Faustus was only tempted into unholy acts due to his society that left impoverished students little opportunities to achieve power? Part of me doubts that the writers put this much thought into their depiction of Mephisto, but, even if it wasn’t intended, it’s an interesting way of representing how the impetus for Mephistopheles’ existence was a corrupt religious society. I’d be very curious to ask the writers how much of this analysis has been intended, and, if none of it was planned, they should pay me for the good PR I’ve given them with this writing /s
Seriously, I get it, voice acting is expensive. And Atlus games are rather niche and don't sell that many copies compared to the wider gaming landscape. But when I'm paying $70 for a AAA title, the same price as games like FFXVI that's fully voiced in multiple more languages than any Atlus title, it just feels half baked. 3/4 of the main story isn't voiced, none of the followers are voiced, most of the side quests aren't voiced.
It feels like a giant step back from P3R, that was mostly voiced, and even a step back from original P5, which wasn't anywhere near fully voiced but has more than Metaphor. There have been several scenes (only in the second dungeon, no spoilers please!) where I was literally shocked they didn't voice them.
It feels like it should have been a $50 release with the lack of voice acting, polish and QOL compared to it's $70 peers.
