I found a room on Kamernet. It is a sublet with two other tenants who have been living there. I will not be moving for a few months so i had a Zoom tour and meeting with the tenants and they seemed totally legitimate. They said they interviewed several others but chose me for the sublet room. They gave me the previous tenants contact info to call for a reference, sent me the sublet contract and utility bill and are asking for a deposit and first months rent. I will not be moving for 3 months so the room will be empty for that time. How can I be sure this is not a scam? Their photos and profiles on facebook match with the two people I Zoomed with. The room and apartment i "toured" matched with the ad on Kamernet, The address of the residence looks like the right place on Google maps (everything matches in the photos). I know scams are prevalent and I just want to be sure this is a real opportunity. It is a well priced apartment accommodation but not a "too good to be true" price (650 eu) for a room in a 3 bedroom house. I need to sign contract within the next day or so and get a deposit to them but I am nervous to do this. They have been very good with communicaton and have stressed that they want me to be comfortable and to ask all the questions I can come up with.

What tour companies operate in Leiden? I haven't found many. I have looked on TripAdvisor, Viator, and AirB&B Experiences. I'm visiting there with my sister July 4th-10th and would like to book a tour or activity. Thank you!

I bought a day trip for two people at Blue Wellness Leiden on https://www.vakantieveilingen.nl. Apparently you can only claim both tickets on the same day. Which is different than Elysium.

My plan is to just use both tickets because it still be cheaper out for a single day. However, I would like to at least give the opportunity for somebody else to go for free and not waste the ticket.

A while back I posted asking /r/leiden for your favourite coffee roasters in the city. I mentioned at the time that I had tried several, and that I had bad luck with a pack of Dino coffee that was passed its sell-by date. I really was excited to support the company, because as I understand they're a small roaster out of Leiden - and that's just plain cool.

I got a DM from a fellow Leidenaar who said they knew the roasters and were keen on getting a new bag of coffee to me to try. I couldn't believe it, and of course agreed, and a few days later one of the roasters was at my door with a bag of coffee. And not just a bag, but an enormous 750g sack of Costa Rican beans.

As soon as my machine could take a refill I tried it out and I have to give them a shoutout for a really great cup! Fruity, full bodied, high-quality, and this time: very fresh. I am really happy to say that my hopes for a really good local roaster came true. Well done, folks! And a big shoutout to u/Gebruikersname and the crew for the free bag - sack! - of some really high quality stuff. My family is in town visiting, so it's going to good use.

Today around 15:30 all trains at Leiden Central were cancelled. The train announcement mentioned a collision, but when we checked the NS app we saw there were actually 3 collisions one on the Leiden-Den Haag Mariahove line, one on the Haarlem-Leiden line and the third I forgot but does anyone have any Dutch news sources about these accidents? My friend and I are trying to find out what happened but keep finding articles from last year.

A while ago I made scallops bc I kept seeing them online and they looked sooo good. I think I did a pretty good job, but it wasn’t as good as I expected. I really wanna try some scallops prepared by a restaurant now and see if it was maybe just my cooking. Does anyone know where I can eat good scallops? I don’t often see them on a menu. I recently bought skylight blinds since the installed ones broke, but I cannot really reach them myself to install them. I might just get a step ladder to install it, but I was wondering if there are any services/handyman in/near Leiden for installing it? I was considering using GAMMA but they only install their own products.

Netherlanders, I need your help! We're visiting from the USA and staying in Leiden, and just realized taxis from Schiphol don't provide car seats (exempted like public transit), and we're trying to pack light. We'll be coming off a 10-hour red-eye flight, so pubic transit is an exhausting option and would prefer taxi to drop us off at our door.

How dangerous is the traffic / how high are the speed limits? How good are the taxi drivers? Would we be very risky if we just went the taxi route with infant in arms?

We're spending a little time here and are trying to find the best restaurants. Not looking for high end, more in between, semi-casual, dishes around 15-25 euro, good atmosphere. Specifically interested in Greek/Mediterranean food!

Hello, I'm a 21 year old male international student going to attend Leiden's ICT in business programme in September 2024.

Unfortunately I can barely find someone who is in this programme now or has made the decision to join it from September 2024, therefore, I'm postiong this to meet some new friends so I suppose we can share some information and help each other.

I know few things about leiden and Netherland so I'm quite afraid of a culture shock that would take so long for adaption therefore I'm soaking myself in learning Dutch and Dutch culture. I'm also keen to meet some chatting partners who can talk Dutch to me and in return, maybe I can teach you some Chinese if you are curious.

I also heard that it would be difficult to find a room in Leiden. I am wondering if I could have a roommate to share the rent or any useful information about housing like avalible rooms or someone looking for a roommate.

Hi! I am an international student and here till August. Want to know what the vibe of Leiden is on Kings day? Things to do etc. would it be better to go to another city like The Hague/Amsterdam? Also I heard that it actually starts the day before 27th? Could you guys please suggest some not to miss activities?
