Meditation group in Haarlem (English)

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can recommend/knows of any Sanghas/meditation groups in Haarlem? I know of two that practice in Dutch, and my Dutch skills are not there yet so I'm curious if there is a group practicing in English (or if anyone would like to practice together).

Basketball leagues

Are there any organized b-ball leagues in Haarlem for 20 or 30 or 40 year olds? I saw triple threat online but it looked for children or semi pro.

Friend group for couples

Hey Haarlemmers! 🌷

My partner and I are looking to expand our social circle with a few other couples in or around Haarlem who are in a similar life stage as us. While we each have our own friends, we're hoping to find some like-minded couples who would love to have a group of other friends to do things with.

We envision summer picnics, cozy dinner nights, board game evenings, and celebrating special occasions like Friends-mas and Friends-giving together.

Who we are looking for: Basically if you're kind, love good banter and enjoy deep and meaningful conversations, you'll be our kinda people! Would be great if you're also in your 30s and also a couple, but no big deal of you're not.

About us: We are in our early/mid 30s, currently knee-deep in house renovations and trying to start a family. We're passionate about travel, going to concerts, and indulging in delicious food. On lazy weekends, you'll find us thrift shopping, binge-watching Netflix series, or enjoying a cozy dinner at home. We consider ourselves pretty easy-going people who value genuine connections.

If you think we might click, send me a message with a little about yourselves, and I'll create a WhatsApp group to organize our first meetup. Can't wait to meet our potential new friends! 🎉

hey) i’m looking for any job in Haarlem

In usual life i’m digital communication manager but Idk dutch yet, so it’s kinda complicated to make communication.

But I really want to work in bars or cafes as bartender or barista.

I don’t have experience, but I know how to make coffee and how to use the beer tap. I studied a little when made social media for some clients in horeca.

Also I’m open for any job in horeca, like cleaning mb.

Recommendations barbershop in Haarlem

Hello Haarlemmers! For a long time I've been going to a hairdressser in Amsterdam because they're just fenomenal at the hairstyle I like (a bit of a playful style, no buzzcuts or anything).

Sadly a large crowd has noticed that my current hairdresser is great, so now it's always booked a month in advance and the price went up a lot.

So now I'm looking for a barber (specifically so that they can also take care of my beard) in Haarlem which can give me a professional but playful look, not the typical buzzcut since it doesn't suit my personality.

Thanks in advance! Would love to hear your experiences

Edit: Thanks for the great and honest reviews so far y'all

Biking to/from Keukenhof with little kids?

I'm staying in lovely Haarlem for a couple of weeks with my family, including two young children (1 and 6). Despite it being touristy we would like to visit Keukenhof.

I've got the following questions:

  • Does it seem reasonable to bike there and back with an electric bakfiets? And does about 1 hour each way sound right?
  • Are there any particularly kid-friendly areas in or around Keukenhof?
  • Is there a good return route that would allow us to see some of the tulip fields in bloom around Lisse? (I figure on the way down we'll just be booking it to make our early entrance time.)

Thanks!

Food delivery discussion

Hello fellow Haarlemmers I deliver food in Haarlem on Uber eats I was wondering where you all order your food and why you do it there? I personally always order Via Uber eats because a lot of restaurants make the Uber eats orders first and then the thuisbezorgd orders because the delivery guys from thuisbezorgd get a hourly wage and we get paid per order. My second question is how much do you tip if you tip? personally always tip if I order my self aspecially if I order via Uber eats because the driver is making less than minimum wage most of the time as I know from experience hahaha I get a tip 1 out of 4 orders but there are still a lot of misconceptions about tipping via Uber eats online I don’t have to pay taxes over my tips I get it all Uber does not take a share It’s a really fair system And my final question is are you happy over all with the local delivery’s ?

Kids football / kleuter voetbal

I have a 5 year old, who is interested in learning to play football (voetbal). We're living in (I think it's called) Ter Kleefkwartier or Bomenbuurt. Anyone with good suggestions?

I found this overview of clubs in Haarlem and think that reaching out to one of the closest clubs for trial lessons would be a good idea. I'm open to general advice, advice for a good club in the area, or sharing experiences.

Renting an Electric bike

Hello everyone,

Do you know anyone in haarlem that rent electric bike for a short period of time?

I have my parents coming over for a couple of weeks and they would like to use the bike to go around the city and the dunes area. However they are quite old and would like to have an electric one.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you all and enjoy the carnival 😁

Real ice / gelato ?

Is there a place where they make real icecream, instead of powder mixes from big bags? Like Massimo Gelato in Amsterdam who make icecream with for example eggs?

Perhaps also a daring question: is the 'basic traditional icecream' made from milk, eggs and sugar? See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzW0ClGw-Qw

Rijtest in Haarlem (practical)

Has anyone here taken the rijtest recently (practical road test) in Haarlem and could say what you had to do, for example in what part of the city and what types of things did they ask you to do?

Buying a house in Haarlem

Hey guys, I have recently decided to give it a go and get on the real estate ladder like many others. First-time buyer.

I understand that the real estate market is pure madness and I am trying to grasp what to expect from it in this town.

Just for the sake of conversation (I will be going to a Makelaar and all that in the upcoming weeks) what should I expect from the real estate market of Haarlem?

My need:

An apartment between 60 and 70 square meters, for a budget of up to 450k. An apartment in semi-central position.

I have been looking around and it does seem possible, but what do you guys think? And will those apartment be of decent quality? Any word of advice/thoughts/general feedback?

Looking for jobs

Hi everyone!

A fellow Haarlemmer here, looking for a weekend job. I am a bicycle mechanic by profession, so quite a handy guy. Not afraid of getting my hands dirty, and a quick learner! I can speak a little bit of Dutch, since I am still learning. Any advice will be appreciated! If you know any better places where I could look for work, please let me know. I tried temper, but found out that almost all jobs there are within the horeca industry and require experience!

Thank you and have a good one!

Haarlem Makelaar

Hey all!

Me and my girlfriend would like to move back to Haarlem. We are living and working in the Netherlands since August so we know how difficult the housing market is. But I still hope that we can found an accomodation to rent in that area.

What do you think, can we find a place on our own or should we contact a makelaar? If so can you recommend a good one? And you have any apartment/house/studio that we can rent out please let me know. If you have any tips or tricks please share it with us.

Peace&Love

Parents with younger kids that would like to hang out:

I’ve seen some posts about friendships on here so thought I’d try my luck!

My husband (38), son (4) and I (34) recently moved to Haarlem and would love to make friends with other couples who have kids of a similar age.

We’re a curious bunch that likes to explore and learn more about everything and anything. In our spare time, we usually find fun weekend activities to do together. My husband and I have just started bouldering, we’re also avid readers. I love clothing and bags so that is a bit of a hobby for me. Our son is very social and warm, he likes paw patrol, rescue vehicles, dancing, kid-friendly restaurants and playing outdoors.

We enjoy hosting lunches and dinners where after being well-fed, the kids can play while the grown-ups chat. Other activities we have in mind are: picnics, beach days, kid friendly terraces, play dates in the park.

Hope to hear from other parents who would like to socialize more!

Wanted: foodie women for new dinner club

Hi all!

I recently made a post about needing more friends in Haarlem and although I got a lot of good and fun responses, it made me realize that I was maybe a little bit too broad with what I'm looking for. I've been toying with the idea of starting a girls/womens dinner club for a while now, and I think I want to go ahead and try to make it happen. I'm looking for women aged 21-40 because I think it would be nice if everyone was in a similar life stage or could at least relate to one another. I'm specifically looking for women because I am in dire need of some feminine energy in my life.

The idea is to form a small group (max 4 or 5 women) to rotate and cook for each other. Preferably elevated foods, things you wouldn't eat everyday or don't come across often. We would meet every 2 months or so and a different person would cook. Outside of those dinners I'm also very interested in meeting up more often for a drink on a terrace or to try out Haarlem food hotspots. Because of my own food preferences I'm particularly looking for women who drink wine and don't eat vegetarian, vegan or in a very specific diet.

Do you recognize yourself in the following:

  • A women (or identify as) who loves food and cooking for others
  • Has a space where they can host 4-5 people for dinner and the capacity to cook for them
  • Up for going out for drinks or dinner every once in a while
  • Interested in being in a Whatsapp group chat with other girls to make plans and talk about anything food related

Please let me know! Feel free to form other groups in the comments as well, if you don't fit the picture I have in mind but want to start something of your own :)

Indie-folk muziek in Slachthuis op 10 april :)

Hallo mede-Haarlemmers :)

Groetjes!

Gym suggestions?

Hello! I’ve recently moved to The Netherlands and I’m living in Haarlem. I’m looking to get a little bit into fitness and working out. I wanted suggestions for gyms that aren’t too expensive. To add to this, I don’t know much about gymming and will be exploring this for the first time and I’m a bit nervous and anxious about my looks so I don’t want to go into a gym that’s judgemental. If you have any suggestions, pls do drop them here. Thanks in advance :)

Let’s play board games at Spellenhuis this Sunday!

Hey everyone, I recently moved to Haarlem and I’ve been on the lookout for a great place to play board games. After some searching, I found Spellenhuis, located conveniently near Haarlem Central Station. I plan to organize a meetup this Sunday at 14:00 and I’ve already reserved space for seven people. It’ll be a casual and fun gathering where we can enjoy some board games together. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to the scene, all are welcome! Drop a comment if you’re interested in joining!

House renting 2025

In 2025, we will be travelling with our family for 6 months. During that period, we would like to rent out our single-family house in Haarlem Noord (110m2). We want to ask around 2000 to 2500 euros for this excluding gas, water, electricity, internet.

2 questions about this;

  1. Is this a realistic price?

  2. Is this easy to arrange yourself (privately) or does it have to go through an estate agency?
