Looking to meet new people

35M moved from Essex with my girlfriend few months ago for the North Yorskhire way of life and to start a family.

Sadly our relationship has ended, and she's taking the dog.

Don't know anyone in the area unfortunately. Haven't met amny people at work yet.

I enjoy walks, dog walks, some hikes, live music, the occasional drink, Airsoft, going to towns and markets.

Looking for people to hang with, chat rubbish, walk a dog. Anything really, ideally at the weekend. My ability is to get on well with pretty much anyone I meet.

I find it very hard to go out and go places on my own though, in an aimless fashion, and without the perfect excuse of a dog!

I can be quite shy initially, but I'm just a goof really! Love making people laugh when I can.

Any pubs doing halloween events Saturday 26th?

Hi All,

This Saturday is the only time our group has some time off at the same time. We are aware that the tap on tower street has a halloween event so we are planning on going in costume but does anyone know if there any others? It would be great to go to a few different places

Thanks

How difficult is it to get across town for school drop-offs?

Would anyone care to weigh in on how difficult would a morning school drop-off be in the Asheville area, say, coming from Killinghall or south Hampswaithe?

Everyone seems to say the traffic in-town is "horrendous".

Should we move to Knaresborough or Harrogate?

Hi,

We’re really interested in a property in Knaresborough after initially thinking we'd move to Harrogate as we absolutely love the town. There’s nothing on the market there right now, but we found a lovely place in Knaresborough. We’re trying to figure out if it would suit us.

We don’t know much about the town and live quite far away, so popping over for a visit isn’t that easy.

Safety is our top priority. I’m from a very safe small town in Europe, and I’ve had a tough time adjusting to the crime levels in the UK. My husband says Knaresborough is very statistically safe and slightly makes fun of me for questioning Knaresborough, but I’d still love to hear from other people who live or have lived there. Are there areas we should avoid, and why? For example, I’ve heard Stockwell Lane isn’t great, but I don’t know how it compares to bad areas in bigger cities? I am searching for perspective. Is the High Street safe and improving? I want to be able to walk around town daily without worrying about my little dog getting snatched.

We like that Knaresborough is quieter than Harrogate since we do want a smaller-town feel, but it seems a bit more run-down. That’s fine as long as it’s improving—we want to settle in a place that’s on the up, for stability and investment long term, since it’s not our forever home. Do you think Knaresborough fits that?

We’re not concerned about schools (planning to homeschool), and we’re not big on nightlife. We’re after a strong sense of community, safety, nature to walk our dogs... A few nice coffee shops and locally sourced food would be great, and we can always go to Harrogate for bigger outings.

Any insights would be amazing! This is a big move for us, and I’ve had some negative experiences living in the UK, so I hope I don’t sound too paranoid. It’s just really important for us to settle in a place where we feel safe and can build a happy, relaxed life. I’ve been here for five years since marrying my English husband, but it’s been hard to find a community I feel at home in. Now that we’re ready to start a family, feeling settled and secure is everything.

Thanks so much for any advice!

Free Parking On The Stray

Hi everyone,

I am trying to find all the hidden roads near or in the Stray that you can park on 24/7 for free without any trouble.

So far I've come across the Stray Rein and the Coach Road. Are we aware of any others?

Obviously Hornbeam car park is a great one for parking your car and forgetting about it but I'd like to have easy access to my car from Westmoreland Street.

Thanks!

Where can we feed the ducks?

Mum and I have been to feed ducks in Knaresborough and Fewston reservoir, recently, but we can't think where else they tend to congregate. We walked down to Valley Gardens the other day, but didn't find them in their usual place, so they might have moved on for the winter.

Anyone spotted them within a few miles of Harrogate? We know there are probably some further afield in Ripon and Otley, but hoped for some closer to home to give us some variety.

Update: we went to Ripley yesterday as there was an open day at the "Castle"* and there were literally hundreds of ducks on the lake there. I don't know what the groundskeepers do to keep them fed, but we could not interest a single one to come over and eat our oats, from any position as we skirted the entire lake. Do not recommend.

*Just like Spofforth: not a castle.

Looking for D&D/RPG/In-Person/Discord friends in the area

Hi all! Just moved close to Harrogate and know absolutely no one in the area (excl. my parents). I was hoping to find some people of a similar age (24) who play D&D or MTG or MMOs or even a few people to play 4 player games with. In-person would be amazing - I'm getting stir crazy in the house looking after my parents - and also going out for a drink after doing something would be fun!

If anyone knows of anywhere/a Facebook page/Discord server, please let me know as I'm in desperate need of some interaction with someone that I can engage in my hobbies with.

Cheers :)

Dog walking buddies wanted!

Just wondered if anyone fancied getting together to go on the occasional hike/dog walk, whether you have a dog or not? I'm 36F, relatively new to Harrogate and I've got a 1.5 year old cocker spaniel, who needs a lot of walks!, so would be good to meet some new people at the same time as exercising the pup :) Could even sneak in a quick pub drink at the end! Let me know if any interest and I'll think of somewhere to go!

Hydro gym equipment and Garmin watch

Hello! Long shot but... I've recently started using the gym at the hydro. I want to connect my Garmin watch to the technogym equipment, specifically the cycling machines, but I've had incredible difficulty getting them to sync/pair.

I wondered if anyone had had any experience or success with this and could offer some insight?

I've been doing some sleuthing online and have seen articles and posts that suggest it should be possible but I've found no concrete answers.

Cheers.

Sudden drop in EV range??

Hi, I’ve got a question for electric car owners. My mercedes eqc has a full range of about 250 miles when fully charged. I charged it to 100% last night and it’s done a sudden drop to 190 miles on a full battery?? I’m so confused. This car is still new and was perfectly fine the other day. I read online that freezing cold weather can affect EV batteries, and although it’s getting a bit colder these days, it’s nowhere near freezing outside. Anyone know what could be the issue?
