Florida's 2 special elections for US Congress at 4/1/2025

Two of the three upcoming special elections are Florida 1st congressional district, Florida's 6th congressional district.

The two Florida elections will be held April 1. In Florida 1, Gay Valimont (D) is running against Jimmy Patronis (R). In Florida 6, Joshua Weil (D) is running against Randy Fine (R).

Donate, share information, volunteer to write postcards, make memes, amplify Valimont and Weil's campaigns and encourage Floridians in these districts to vote Democrat! Yes, it's a long shot, but special elections have low turnouts and small shifts can make a big impact.

Say what you will, but the planes stayed in the sky and eggs were cheaper under Joe Biden.

I'm a portuguese citizen and I would like to contact former US president Joe Biden

Hello.

It's basically what it says in the title, I would like to send a letter or a message to Mr. Joe Biden.

I said to myself half a year ago that I would do it if Harris won the election and now we have the stupidest man on the planet as president, who is also a really dangerous individual.

I live in Portugal.

Thank you.

MAGA is dumb

This is a little bit of a vent on my part.

On another Subreddit, I decided to be a sarcastic jerk. I posted a photo from my local store the other day that apologized for issues with egg supply. Obviously, we all know that this is due to bird flu. But I decided to have some fun and wrote "Trump did this" and said that I'm only holding Trump to the same standard the MAGAs held Biden too.

Plenty of people who agree with those of us here knew what I was doing, others didn't but once I explained it they got it. The MAGAs on this subreddit took it so seriously. It went completely over their heads. I had to laugh at that, but then I realized something quite serious. They were saying I'm stupid and such, I don't care that they call me names.

However, I do care that so many of our fellow citizens are uneducated, angry, hypocritical, hateful, and extremely gullible. They believe what they want to believe and anyone who questions them is stupid or dishonest. There have always been conspiracy theorists and gullible people. But it seems to be a more widespread problem now than it was even a decade ago.

Think about it for a second. In 2012, President Obama and Mitt Romney disagreed on just about every policy issue. Their supporters voted for the candidate they agreed with the most or against the candidate who they disagreed with on issues more. Both candidates and their supporters had common bonds. A belief in democratic institutions, civility in our public dialogue, respect for people no matter who they are, agreement with scientific fact, and valuing expertise.

Today, we are divided on more than just policy issues. We are divided on what constitutes reality. MAGA has decided that they don't care about reality and that whatever they say reality is makes it so. This is mimicking Trump. In their world, they can't be wrong or lose a debate. They all think they are the smartest in a room when the opposite is generally true. I'm saddened by this.

The GQP will attempt to invalidate the 28th Amendment - ERA

Passed in 1972, 22 States ratified it that year. the 38th State ratified it in 2024 and Biden signed the Equal Rights Amendment into law the 17th of January. Three lines of attack: A. We don't like it. B. Congress placed a time limit on ratification, which wasn't met. The Constitution has no provision for time limits. The 27th took 200 years. C. Some States want to withdraw their ratification. The Constitution has no provision for such action.

Anyone in Portland, that wants to be friends?

This is kind of embarrassing , but before this sub goes away, are any of yā€™all in your 30s and living in Portland?

People keep saying you need to hunker down and build you community at home. My husband and I and a handful of our friends and looking to expand our friend group. I just feel like an island sometimes, because a lot of my friends are left, but donā€™t follow politics as closely as me. And the other people I work with or have known are very much the ā€œleftistā€ types, which I find a bit irritating lol.

Anyone else feel this way?

Does this seem like a land grab?

They're planning to basically deport tennants, and then vacate and foreclose on 30...40...50 million homes. Who knows. Deporting all those people will make all those properties available for gentrification. Melania should be added to the list with her fraudulent "genius visa". Good for the goose, good for the gander.

Stats

I'm not sure if anyone has done the legwork on this, but I was wondering if someone can put together a list of baseline stats for the economy as of January 20th, 2025 So we can factually compare and contrast every year over year performance. Things like GDP, unemployment, inflation, job growth, all the different metrics that major economists to use. David pakman mentioned something in his video yesterday about trying to do that but I haven't seen anything yet. Figured it would be a really great baseline for the inevitable economic headwinds were about to run into.

So... What now?

I've been watching this place for a long time, since he became the nominee. He has had a long and venerable career and now it has come to an end and history will look upon him kinder than the people currently do.

What is this sub going to be doing now? I guess its the odd post of him enjoying his retirement.

I'm just wondering.
