Best anki deck to learn keigo

Hello guys, i just recently passed N3 and I will be deployed in a month in japan for work. I am currently finding a good anki deck to memorize a lot of keigo words. Since I know that in a business setting keigo is really important. My anki deck is only composed of my own mining only.

Finding out if a piece of media ever had JPN subtitles released?

I'm looking for 2 specific shows JPN subtitles with no luck on the usual sites (kitsunekko, etc) and was wondering if there were a way to find out if subtitles were ever created for them, for example checking the dvd or bluray release, etc. In this case, the 2 shows are NHKにようこそ and B型H系. Thanks!!

How to Say I Love You in Japanese and why you should be careful with it 👀

If you're curious about how to say "I love you" in Japanese, it's not as straightforward as in English. In Japan, expressing deep emotions like love can be more subtle. Here are the main ways to say it:

  • 愛してる (Aishiteru) – This is the most direct way to say "I love you," but it's rarely used in everyday conversation. It’s considered very serious and sentimental and even married couples may only say this to each other a handful of times!

So, know you know how heavy this phrase can be, you might want to instead start with:

  • 好きです (Suki desu) – This is a more casual way to express affection and translates to “I like you,” but it’s often used to mean “I love you” in a lighter, more approachable way. You might hear this between people who are dating.
  • 大好きです (Daisuki desu) – Adding “dai” makes it stronger, so this means “I really like you” or “I love you a lot.” It’s still a bit softer than “Aishiteru”

If you want to find out more about these phrases, you can check out our Guide to Saying I Love You in Japanese!

Have you used any of these phrases before, or do you prefer expressing love in other ways?

For now, I am creating an app like Kanji-Practice-Sheet.
It is still in the making, but I temporarily released the app.

Language learning should not be LONELY

Duolingo, Anki, WaniKani, Pimseleur Audio books.

What do all these have in common?

They are not HUMANS!

I'm sure a lot of you have studied a language and done many flash cards for months and when you're in front of a person who speaks that language.. for some reason you can barely understand them.

Learning a language with a human who is speaking to you is the best way to fill in the 'understanding/listening' aspect. When you're going from one Anki flash card to another.. isn't that kinda lonely?

Some people solve this by watching 'Study With Me' content, but you're just creating an illusion to trick yourself into thinking they are studying with you, when the reality is they are just posting those clips, making money, and you're sitting in your room, all alone 🥲

Now you may say, "private tutor?? it ain't cheap"

I found that the Japanese free bootcamps on the language study marathon discord server tends to incorporate human interaction + (most importantly) community/social Experience.

To get to their discord server, just go search their youtube channel "language study marathon".

Any OCR Reader IOS app recommendations?

Does anyone have any good OCR Reader recommendation for IOS apps? Bonus points if free :)

I've been reading manga lately and it's been a pain having to look each word up by radicals of by drawing the kanji. I wish I could just point my camera at it and it would do all the work.

Thanks!

Looking for bitesize chunks of Japanese to learn 🤔 any suggestions?

Looking for bitesize chunks of Japanese to learn, jlpt n5 preferred not necessary though. For example "all jlpt n5 katakana words" - just 61 in total. That's a nice amount in one go. Could be anything kanji, grammar, reading, listening, vocabulary, speaking, pronunciation, anything anyone can think of all suggestions welcome.

I’ve created a website for learning Japanese by watching videos

Hi!
I’ve developed a free website, without ads, for learning languages by watching videos from YouTube and local storage. You can watch videos with two subtitle tracks and create flashcards with words you don’t know. Flashcards can also include whole sentences translated by DeepL and explanations from ChatGPT. These cards can be reviewed on the website or exported to Anki. Currently, there are 18 available languages, including Japanese. Key features include:

  • Compatibility with any modern browser without the need for installing add-ons or any other software.
  • A mobile-friendly interface.
  • The ability to add images to flashcards for improved memorization.
  • An offline and cloud video converter for videos that are not supported.
  • A recommended YouTube video list (200+ videos in Japanese)
  • Pitch accent of words.

Try it out here: yarukilingo.com
I would greatly appreciate your feedback and suggestions. 😺

Where can I find similar resources for hiragana/katakana?

Something that shows how to write the characters step by step, like this on Kanji Alive.
