Hi everyone
So I am currently in the process of renewing my Residence Card. I am a university student, so I recently received all the necessary documents from my uni in order to do renewal process. However, two days ago, I lost my wallet which contained my old residence card inside. I went to the police and gave me a document that states that I lost my residence card. The cops told me to go to the Immigration Office to get a new card. I was planning to go to the Immigration Office anyways because I needed to renew my card in the first place (because it'll expire in about a month).
Basically my question is, how will losing my residence card any applying for a new one effect the card extension process?

I'm thinking of going mountain hiking near Tokyo or even other prefectures, but would rather find someone to go with. Any recommendations on where to find friends to hike with?
I have some family members (3) coming to Tokyo for a visit in October.
From what I can see, Suica/Pasmo cards are still not being sold anywhere. Regarding the Welcome Suica, it seems to be only available at Haneda where as my family members will be arriving at Narita, as for the Pasmo version, the website states it will stop being sold from August. All of my family members use android phones so they can’t use the digital cards here.
What can we do? Do we need to purchase tickets for each leg of the trip the old fashioned way?
I just completed my 3 years of work experience at my current IT firm and applied to a job. I went through a third-party recruiter and got the job. I received the offer letter but the benefits that were listed the offer is far from what was in the job description. The following are things that were in the JD but not in the offer letter Eg:
I asked my recruiting agent and he said just because they were mentioned in the job description doesn't necessarily always end up in the offer.
Does anybody have any experience with this kind of event? Would love to hear your advice on this. Thanks
Why do Japanese women turn into nasty horrible petty cunts after you marry them?
An example from tonight, baby is sick Nd thrown up everywhere so I've cleaned up, put laundry on and going to take futons to coin laundry and take the baby for a drive to settle her as she likes the car. It's midnight to boot. So I ask where's the car key?
And instead of it's in my bag or its in that pot all I get is you're so stupid and annoying you should know where they are! You're useless go back to your country!
Keep in mind the baby is still throwing up and she's making herself and her ego the main priority instead of just telling me where the keys are.
It's not the first time she's done it and she turns everything she can into a fight for no reason and somehow I'm always the one at fault even done nothing wrong except present logic, facts and solutions... Those last three make things worse too.
All tip of the iceberg.
Hello,
I've been searching for a dental clinic that does "zenshin masui" aka General Anesthesia for Wisdom Tooth removal.
So far I've contacted 10 clinics or so, none of them offer it.
Tldr: Looking for dentals clinics (private) that offer wisdom tooth extraction under General Anesthesia in Fukuoka.
Hey so as the title says I’m looking for this medication, where I’m from you can get a 3 in 1 of all of them and was wondering if that’s a thing here too.
I'm leaving permanently and want to take back a nice rice cooker.
Obvious thing is to make sure it can take the voltage of the U.S. (125 V for the U.S. and not 100V only like some appliances here), but other than that does anyone know of a good rice cooker to take back to the U.S.? Any experiences with a reliable one that makes rice tastier?
Shipping will be in a crate/by ship with my other household goods.
TLDR: found a smashed and dying cat on the road. Paid to euthanize it. Should I try to find the owner and tell them?
It's been an absolutely terrible day. I have been super emotional about it so please be nice.
I've only been in the country a few weeks, do not speak Japanese (SOFA) and the situation would have necessitated far better language skills than I could realistically have anyway.
I was driving home in a fairly rural area and saw a lump in the road. It was an adorable little ginger kitten that couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 months. It was panting and blood was on the road. I knew I was in way over my head.
I picked up the cat and boy it didn't like that: arching and clearly in so much pain. It's jaw was broken and blood coming out of its nose. Blood all over its face. Had a possible seizure on the seat while I was driving.
Phone at 9% but I needed the GPS to drive to a local vet about 6 miles away. Not a vet. Drove to another vet. Closed for a 2 hour lunch. Phone at 7%. I start to panic now. I have an infant and seriously injured cat in my car, no juice on my phone, my oldest is coming home from yochien in an hour, living in a rural area with the next vet 30 minutes away. I'm standing by the door starting to get emotional as a staff member came out. Used Google translate to ask for help.
The vet was able to do a CT scan and said with a broken jaw and the head injury, he couldn't help it. I asked if he could euthanize it and stood by as she passed. My phone died.
Paid 10,000¥ for the service but had no idea how to ask how to ask for them to deal with the cat. Tbh, I would have paid a lot more if the vet thought there was anything he could do to help her. Now I've got a cat in a box in my garage until tomorrow when I can take her to the base vet since they said they'll take her.
The little farming neighborhood she was hit in had a few houses along the road (maybe 6), she was clean and had no fleas. I do not think she was a stray.
Should I go back and ask around if someone has lost their cat? I didn't hit the cat but I wasn't going to let it suffer more than it already was. Would I cause more problems for myself if the owner takes issue with what I did? I know what I did was for the best but I feel terrible that someone could be wondering what happened to their cat but I also don't want to get into trouble. I don't think it's a good look as a foreigner showing up at someones house to tell them through my phone that I euthanized their smashed cat.
I'm just 2000 miles short of the required mileage for getting a reward flight with ANA using my Rakuten ANA card. Unfortunately, a lot of my miles are set to expire this month. Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how I can quickly earn those 2000 miles before a lot of my miles expire? I'm looking for methods that would award the miles fast, ideally before the month ends.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hi, I'm living in Tokyo for around 6 months and need to find a job (40 hours a week ish) to get by. Been looking primarily at:
Coffee shop/restaurant - would allow me to finish earlier on some days so I can have some free time in the evening.
Bar/izakaya - probably busier but more social? don't mind it being busy but working til 11/12 all the time might be limiting in terms of seeing people after work, going to live houses etc.
Night shift bar/izakaya - probably not an option but pays well and seems like it would be fun, would be curious if anyone's worked night shifts.
Would love to hear people's experiences in working these kinds of jobs and how it affected social life, both inside and outside of work. I'm a Japanese citizen but my Japanese is only conversationally fluent if that helps. If there's any other options I've missed then please add them as well.
Just wanted to understand how the credit card works for Olive. I have a regular SMBC card that works as both a debit and credit card. Whenever I make a payment, it goes through the credit card system. However, my contact with an Olive Gold card has payments processed as debit only. Is there a setting needed for using the credit card? I see the card details in the app, so I guess it can be used for online payments, but I'm not sure how to use the physical card as a credit card.
hello. I am an immigrant living in Japan. My father was a sailor navy and since I was a child he took me to visit the ships where he served. The other day I visited the Mikasa museum ship, and I loved it. I also wanted to enter the naval zone that is there but is guarded by American soldiers, access is prohibited.
I would like to know where there are more museum ships or to be able to visit warships in Japan. thank you
Hello, I am a university student studying in Japan currently and am doing job hunting here. I have received an offer from Rakuten mobile (as a software engineer) as well as several other offers from other smaller IT companies as well. I am highly debating whether to join Rakuten Mobile purely due to the many benefits that they offer (eg: high salary [in comparison to other companies I have offers from; 5mill yen annually], 3 free meals a day). I have done research on this company in both English and Japanese, and I have seen mixed (mostly negative) reviews. I know that it is pretty common for a company to have mixed reviews as everyone has different experiences but the negative reviews I have seen about this company are a little too concerning to just chalk it up to that. If you have any relevant experiences, may I ask how bad/good the company actually is in terms of work hours, ethic and the overall atmosphere in the IT sector? I greatly appreciate any advice/comments that anyone has regarding this matter.
Guys, what would you recommend? I have heard many good things about paypay. I just need a simple debit card like the old gaica card. I have also wise, but charging procedure takes often bit of time. Do you know something that is:
Easy and fast to charge. English language available. No costs for the debit card.
Have a small problem as ive been met with a yeast infection (male) bought something from the drug stores, but im not sure if it Can be used on the p****? Help anyone? Its called Orontor EX Cream 30g
A group of friends and I are heading to Okinawa and Ishigaki at the end of July. I want to know any opinions on some must-dos and other activities to do whilst we are there.
We really love swimming and water activities and want to go snorkelling, paddle-boarding etc. is there any cheap reccomendations for this on either islands? A lot of us are confident in the ocean and happy to try anything!
Additionally, was there anything you highly recommend doing? Especially cheap/free things...
We will obviously be going out in Naha and hopefully meet some locals along the way. Thanks in advance!
While house hunting I have come across this a couple times now and I'm wondering if anyone else has it and how it is. I can't find it used anywhere outside of Japan...
The system can pull hydrogen out of your city gas piped into your house and generate electricity? This strikes me a really odd, because "all electric" houses seem to be a bit more of the rage these days, while these is going the opposite direction.
I feel like I'd much rather have solar panels and a battery...
Hi all,
I went home over winter break and renewed my DL in the states from D.C. to VA. I thought I could automatically convert it to a Japanese license when I got back but was stupid and realized I would need to stay in the states for 90 days after obtaining my license. Is this the end for me? Or can I try and take the driving test in Japan?
Thanks.
I did a couple interviews with TV Asahi for a toy festival a few weeks back called Super Festival 88. I'm not sure what the program was they just asked me some questions about things I bought and about Japanese toys. Any idea on how I can find this segment? Thanks in advance!
Not sure if anyone has experience with this or can share any info.
We're both Americans married in the US and moved to Japan together. I had a working visa and she had a dependent visa. For whatever reasons she has decided to leave me and has basically ghosted me. I'm not sure where she is or what she is doing.
One of the last things she told me was that she gave up her zairyu card to immigration at the airport indicating she would not return.
I've started the divorce process in the US one sided. Do I need to inform immigration or the government of my wife leaving / divorce? All I can think of is removing her as a dependent from my taxes.
Sorry to ask something so mundane but I’m currently house hunting and found a cool lil spot that got marked down but it uses propane gas and a septic tank. It’s a newly built house in a pretty urban area so kinda threw me off but it is what it is.
In your opinions, is having toshi gas and a sewer system a must? Or is the cost difference negligible? I know propane is more expensive but would love some real world opinions
Thank you all
Can I show my number card from front to back without covering anything? Employer is asking for it butttt i’m still not sure if they are a legit one cause the interview will be after that & I have a big big trust issue… like i’m still not sure if they are a legit one cause I just found them online
The company I started working with last February seemed like a good deal on paper, but as time goes on, more issues are making me regret leaving my previous employer. The most recent issue is that, to maintain their desired profit margin, they changed my bonus system from something tangible to something totally unrealistic (effectively cutting me out of it). This happened when I asked them to fulfill the promises they made during the interview and cover my health insurance.
I'm going to have a child in approximately seven months. I haven't told my employer yet. After talking with a few trusted coworkers, I learned that none of them received any parental leave and didn't really fight for it. I've heard that in Japan, I have the right to four weeks of paid parental leave, which I can take at any time within the first two months. Based on how meetings tend to go, I anticipate a difficult conversation when I bring this up. I also want to avoid being fired for vindictive reasons later on.
What strategies can I use to make this process as smooth as possible? Additionally, what preventive actions can I take to protect myself from being fired for requesting things promised by either my company or the Japanese government?
Ok so I am a freelancer in Japan and I need to collect money from a single client abroad, exclusively.
In the past I had a GK setup, but because of the fees and tax involved to keep it alive with only me as an employee, it did not make any sense: so I decided to become self-employed (freelance) instead.
I am having headache as all the banks I applied to are not allowing receiving money from abroad. (amounts are >2m JPY)
Could anyone recommend something? I do not believe I can apply to a business bank account as a freelancer?
Hail mary attempt for help, so I appreciate all the replies in advance: I’m scheduled to get married to my Japanese national fiancee in Niigata this Saturday (I’m a US citizen).
However, Niigata local government just informed me today that the Single Affidavit needs an update (in order to complete the marriage registration on Saturday). The affidavit was initially apostilled in Texas.
I’m desperate to get this revision and notary completed by tomorrow. The US Embassy in Tokyo doesn’t seem to be taking appointments for notaries (or even replying to my inquiries).
What options do I have to get this done by tomorrow? Thanks again
Short version: can my landlord unilaterally remove all the trees in the garden of my rental house without my agreement?
Long version: Ive been living in a rental house with a garden for many years. Contract specifies that maintainence of the outdoor and garden area is my responsibility, but when moving in the landlord asked me to not trim the trees as he has a sentimental attachment to them and will therefore pay to have them done professionally. That was fine for over a decade. Suddenly (maybe he realizes that he will never move back into this house), he decides he doesn't want to pay anymore. He first decided to trim them himself, and showed up with little clippers and no ladder (the trees are well over 5 m tall). He cut only the bottom parts, leading to one top heavy tree to later fall over in strong wind. So he then decided to pay a professional to cut them to around 3 m and then give me the responsibility to maintain them at that level. I agreed. Didn't hear from him for months, the trees kept growing. Now suddenly he's insisting that he'd rather just have them all removed completely. Do I have the right to say no? I like the trees, they keep the house cool, they look nice, and provide privacy. Based on past experience, he would also likely destroy my flower and veggie garden and patio/deck in the removal process. I also choose this house based on the garden and trees, so removing them feels like removing an essential part of the rental property, but I have no idea if I have any legal rights.
Bizmates is great cheap option for learning English. They have unlimited private lesson monthly plans at a reasonable price. Is there anything similar for Japanese? I found Japanonin, they have cheap group lessons, but private are expensive and its not unlimited.
