Yamaha WR450F

I found a good deal on a wr450f. I’m looking for a good trail/enduro bike and prefer the reliability of Japanese brands.

Was originally looking at the KTM 350 exc-f and was curious how it compares?

2 Stroke/4 Stroke Trail Bike

Hello everyone! I’m looking to purchase a trail bike to putt around with my boys. I’ve owned a series of different bikes in my life, but haven’t ridden in a couple of years. I owned a crf250x years ago, but sold it cause never had time to ride. Now, since my boys are older and they have bikes, looking to get back into it 😎

I am considering getting a KDX200/220, crf250x, or KTM??? My budget is around 5K.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

Kx250f 17’ or a ktm sxf250 15’

The kxf has 147h but has brand new tires on and a brand new cylinder and piston. It is being sold by a company. Also has new tires and no huge visible damages some scratches but not a whole lot. The suspension has been adjusted. They can also keep the bike over the winter and I pick it up when I want to start riding for no extra cost.

The ktm has 88h and is being sold privately. It had new piston and timing chain (kamkedja) at 78h has the recipt. It has a small hole on the seat cover. Some scratches on the plastics a bit more then the kxf. The tires have 4h old mousse. And the suspension was done 5h ago.

The upside with the ktm is that it is electric start. Wasn’t planning on doing a lot of enduro but some. But it is about 3h away. The kxf is a newer model but with a kickstart and it is only 1.5h away and sold by a company. Both bikes are listed to being often maintained. The ktm with oil change every 5-7h and the oil filter. The air filter after every ride.

I am planning on riding mostly track but some enduro. And I am a beginner so not going to riding it so hard.

They are both priced the same at about 3300dollar with zero negotiation. With the ktm I also get a few air filters with ktm.

So my wondering is what would you choose and how long would the bike last before needing a top rebuild or a bottom rebuild. I am planning on changing the airfilter after every ride and oil and oil filter every 5-7h.

Engine conversion: YZ250X to stock YZ250

I own a 2016 YZ 250X and I'm looking to convert it to more motocross suited, in other words to a stock YZ 250. The why I'm doing is that in Finland you can get a lot better and cheaper insurance for the 250X. This is the only reason why I'm not buying a stock YZ 250: strictly regulatory and legal reasons.

So, I've already got a 21"/19" wheel set and the suspension will be tuned to regular YZ 250 spec the next time I send it to service. I have the impression that the suspension is otherwise the same on both models expect the valving is different.

That leaves the engine. If I'm understood correctly, the difference is pretty much a wider gearbox, less compression head, different YPVS assy and CDI. I have to service the top end and crank bearings soon, so I'm opening the cases anyways. I'm riding well below C-class, so not that fast yet. But learning more every time I ride. I don't ride trails, only motocross tracks. Now comes the questions:

  • I think the tracks in Finland are tight and somewhat technical compared to clips I see from worldwide. Does it make sense to convert the transmission to shorter YZ 250 spec or would I be okay just using different sprocket ratios?
  • Would it make sense to do the top end conversion to higher compression? Does this only increase top RPM power and make the bike more twitchy, or will the power increase on the whole range?
  • Will the YPVS conversion make the bike faster coming out of corners, or would I lose low end power and have to carry more speed to corners to keep the revs high?
  • What is the difference between the "X" CDI and regular CDI? I got the impression that it's just a different timing.
  • Would it make sense in my case just do the transmission conversion or just the top end & CDI?

What I am looking with these mods is to make my riding and learning easier. Sometimes at the track I feel that the current YZ250X setup takes a bit too long to get to the correct powerband and sometimes it feels that the 3rd gear is too tall and the 2nd gear too low.

I'm thinking of sourcing used parts for the gearbox, head and YPVS assy to keep the cost down.

Is the lowest part of the link is part of the shock? What is the point of this design, making it lower than the skid plate, can get beaten up so easily…

Should my exhaust get this hot at idle?

I have a 23 klx 300 and i left the bike in neutral for about 5-7 minutes and I saw that the exhaust was glowing. I wasn’t revving it , i just let it sit. It idles at about 1900-2000 rpm. None of the dash lights were on, and its 32 degrees outside side. I’m mainly just wondering if this is something that is normal, or if I should take it to get looked at

Why can’t you run 2t oil in a 4t

Could a vacuum leak be the answer to all my problems?

1978 Suzuki pe 250. The carb boot is messed up and cracked open, the airbox line 100% has a leak in the pipe but is this why there’s no reliable starts (30-50 kicks and no life) but with starting fluid boots right up and revs are weird?

1978 Suzuki pe250 will not stop revving upon start up

I have a 1978 zuk and I recently re did how the air flows through the carb (Previously made a duct out of flex tape) I got a clamp and some rubber plumbing tube and put it on like that but when I kicked the bike over it didn’t wanna stop revving could I need a rebuild?

What does the “500cc” mean here?

Is it referring to the amount of oil that should be added? The bike is small and it caught me off guard since the bike should be 80cc and I doubt a 500cc engine would fit, could anyone help me out here?

Just got a kx 250x and had a few questions

The thing stalls really easily in first gear, would going down in rear sprocket size help with stalling? Also it’s a bit fast/snappy for me, what could I do to smooth out the power?
