Like a other of things I buy, my copies of Seasons 3-7, as well as the second version of the A&E box set (the one without the file cabinet) are brand new, wrapped in plastic. (Did you catch the Twin Peaks reference there?) I've contemplating unloading my brand new seasonS 3-7 and my slightly used Season 1/2 set on eBay, but either no-one cares about Homicide but us, or everyone has access to it, thanks to Peacock, and I have yet to see someone purchase one of the sets that other people have put on eBay. I have, however, seen the original/collector's File Cabinet Box Set for sale.
I plan on keeping Seaons 3-7 shrink wrapped and want to watch the rest of the series from the boxed set, so I can figure out where to place the L&O episodes into the rewatch (would have been cool for A&E to put the L&O episodes mixed in with the HLOTS episodes in order, like the publishers do with comic book compilation when stories span different series) and see the movie at the end. My question, though, which I'm seeking you all's opinions, is do I crack open my boxed set or hold out for a File Cabinet version and sell my current Homicide DVDs?
What do you think?
Just finished the finale and I thought it was so funny to see Ed Begley Jr as the doctor. He appears in all my favorite skits in Portlandia. He even says “I’m not gonna sugarcoat this”
Like the TV show, this is another adaptation of David's Simon original source book.
It's been so long since I read the original book that I can't say how faithful an adaptation this graphic version is. The words do seem to be taken straight from Simon's book. Ed Burns gets a mention inside and I thought he was co-author of the original book but it turns out he wasn't.
I read quite a few graphic novels and I wasn't at all happy with the drawing style. There's no sense of movement and I didn't like the colour palette and the strangest choice is have most background characters not fleshed out and coloured in but they are just outlined like in this image. I'm sure it was a stylistic choice to focus on the detectives but it jut looks like they ran out of time and couldn't finish it. I did the varied page layouts that ran in different directions and sometimes even took up a full two-page for one image.
I don't know why it's described with novel in its title. I like to think I coined the term 'Graphic Reportage' for Joe Sacco's books but I probably didn't and this is what it is as it's definitely not a novel.

Although, easily one of my favorite characters. I didnt like they way he treated Kay Howard.
Beyond future Wire actors and some big stars it’s cool catching people in bit roles. My “catch of the day” is Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul). She has 1 line in Season 6 “All is Bright”
I've seen a couple of clips uploaded 15+ years ago that have been removed recently with claims from "Fremantle International".
If they're the ones who own the streaming rights they should know that this is a bad way to promote it.
Hi y'all! I've added 18 of the flairs first suggested. You all can get together and decide which ones you would like to add/change and let us know. This is YOUR SUB!!!
It's fun spotting the actors who went on to other things - noticed Robert Chew in the Blood Ties episodes at the start of season 6. (They also starred James Earl Jones and Jeffrey Wright.)
I looked up Robert Chew when rewatching The Wire some time ago and was impressed to read that he was an acting coach and involved in Baltimore children's theaters. He ended up being instrumental in coaching the kids and Snoop on The Wire for their tough scenes. He also was in The Corner. Wikipedia says Simon "described Chew as a "smart, elegant actor" and stated that he has one of the most authentic Baltimore accents on the show."
Also I'm a big fan of Wilkie Collins the writer and guessing that David Simon, who co-wrote the episodes, also is a fan and that's why he gave him that name in the show.
Maybe I'm missing something, as I've been here only a short while. Was a decision made long ago for standard users not to be able to choose/enter a flair? Or am I not seeing something I should see?
As a young female starting her career around the time Homicide premiered, the clothing worn by Kay Howard and Megan Russert (and the other females you see onscreen in the precinct) really takes me back. Sometimes the memories are positive and sometimes I cringe. But, yes, that is really what I wore to the office back then.
Fancy a trip back to H:LotS fandom from the 90s-00s? These two sites are a couple of my favourite things on the internet, as they are perfect examples of what the earlier World Wide Web used to look like.
Homicide: Links on the Sites (last updated 2009)
schlok.net: Homicide Stuff (get your drinking game or Homicide phone ringtone here!)
Obviously, not all the links on the pages still work (news from Altavista anyone?), but there's still some great material on there, with lots of really good linked sites to explore.
Thank you to the people still keeping these pages up!
Does anyone know where I can get a ringtone like the ringing telephone in the Homicide (squad?) room? Thanks!
The way he treated Pembleton on his 1st day back was deplorable!!
Pathetic!
Confused on the best way to watch the show… I have read that the IMdB order is the way to go but it doesn’t make sense to me at least for season 3?
Any ideas?
I never read Simon's book Homicide - A Year on the Killing Streets but I listened to the audiobook sample. One sentence and I recognized Reed Diamond as the narrator. It's now on my Audible list. If you're interested in the ebook it's currently on sale on Amazon and Google Play Books for $1.99.
Do you think Homicide being added to Peacock may be a sign they are looking at a revival ? Apparently its doing quite well since being added .
So Frank is gone and I’m not a fan of everyone shacking up with each other this season. I wasn’t as down on season 6 as others are but the quality has certainly declined. I’m more halfway through season 7 now and was curious to know what everyone’s favorite episodes are of this season, any standouts you feel stand with the earlier seasons?
Is there a version/release of the dvds that has the original soundtrack?
I’m in season 6 of rewatching Homicide. Season 1 was brilliant and groundbreaking, still great. Season 2&3 were a notch below. After that it’s “good tv” with some great episodes but each season gets further away from the greatness of season 1. Better than CSI BS but not great
Almost feels like a back door pilot for Oz. It seems like a lot of behind the scenes and in front of the camera talent were involved in both shows, and The Wire as well. That’s a hell of a pedigree.
After what Bayliss did regarding his cousin, i cant respect him anymore, shame I was really starting to like his character. whats everyones thoughts on him and that decision?
Spoiler-ish
This may be an unpopular opinion but I think Requiem for Adena is superior to Three Men and Adena. I think the face that we have 4 years of built up anguish on the part of Bayliss is much more interesting. I like how we revisit Adena’s mother and see her reaction to things. I like how Bayliss loses it in the interrogation with the “brain dead” suspect. I like seeing Pembleton and Bayliss bounce off of each other in the interrogation only for it to go off the rails and to see how Pembleton deals with it.
I just prefer the whole episode more.
Why is the Homicide movie(Life Everlasting) looked upon by some negatively? I find it a satisfying way to wrap up the show, most shows are not afforded the opportunity to end the show. Besides that, the movie is really a call back and an homage to the first three seasons, including cast and the original opening. I adore the movie, especially the original music which has been replaced on Peacock
My favorite scene has to be Bayliss confiding to Pembleton about Luke Ryland. Kyle Secor and Andre Braugher were at their absolute best in this scene. Their performances and reactions to each other just made me feel emotional. Powerful doesn’t do it justice. I thought it was a great way to end their stories and it keeps the audience thinking about what happened to Bayliss.
Anyways, what is your favorite or most well acted scene? I would love to hear what everyone has to say.
Just watched the EP about Pembleton having a stroke. I forgot all about this
I really love the recurring characters whose backgrounds don’t really make a ton of sense. Like Darrin Russom, the defense attorney of …everyone, from the most impoverished to the fanciest. And the doctor, who does medicine at the hospital!
