I've tried everything including past forums. Do please help me! I'm a newbie to GIMP!!
In the top left corner (by default) in single-window mode are the image tabs. I used to have mine fairly large because I have difficult seeing things, to a degree. Then Gimp freaked out, froze while I was working, and rest like half my UI. I cannot find the option to resize them online and trying to look how 'how to resize the image TABS' just gets me 'how to resize images' no matter how many quotes I put in the damned search because google has gotten 'so much smarter' over the years.
Anyway, can someone please tell me how to resize the image tabs in the top left? Thank you.
How do I apply the gif color palette from ffmpeg and Shutter Encoder to other gif making tools?
I have been playing around with My Paint Brush Tool and find it useful. Except I have no idea what is a negative radius for; it leaves nothing on the canvas.
HI,
I am running GIMP 2.20.36. Today I tied to open a photo and I got a message saying there is no RAW loader installed. It recommends darktable and RAWTherapee. This never came up before. Anyone know why I am seeing this and recommend either of those? I am using a macbook running Big Sur. Thanks!
Thanks in advance!
I know adobe photoshop you can remove some background in an automated way, i wonder if gimp also has this? Using the lines to cut a piece of the photo, creating a layer, with the pencil usually takes a bit of time, i wanted to make this process faster?
My goal is editing somebrackgrounds to make them noir, while some characters stay in full colour.

any fix for this?
I'm developing the unofficial AppImages https://github.com/ivan-hc/GIMP-appimage
As I said, I've no issues with other programs.
Please refer to this video because it's kinda hard to explain with words: https://imgur.com/a/87KXVT2
Basically Gimp has some sort of small invisible circle around where I first contact the screen, where I can't draw anything inside of. When I bring my pen outside this circle, it immediately spawns a hard straight line inbetween the initial contact point and the point at which I leave the circle.
This means I can't draw any line length in-between a dot and the circle radius (1st half of video). And it always creates annoying straight lines at the start of curves (2nd half of video).
The same thing happens if I use a pen or just my finger. This doesn't happen anywhere else on my pc. EDIT: It only doesn't happen in Paint and Photopea from the places I've tested so far.
Any help?
Hello everyone, how are you all doing? I need help with Gimp version 2.10.18, how to build a college picture, and how to enhance and upscale photographs to increase pixels and size.
Opening an image, exporting an image, even just trying to access edit > preferences, causes an infuriating stoppage. Sometimes it'll just freeze up for 20-30 seconds and then complete the operation, other times it'll stop entirely, and I'll have to force quit the app in task manager.
Running on Windows 10.
I've looked at several step-by step tutorials on how to do this, but none of them seem to work.
What I'm trying to do is subtract a top layer with alpha values 0-255 from my bottom layer with all alpha 255, which I would expect to effectively result in the inverse alpha channel of the top layer. I set the top layer mode to subtract and merged it down, trying it both with and without a layer mask on the bottom layer. Simply nothing happens on merge, all the alpha values remain at 255.
My setup is shown below. What am I doing wrong here?
Thanks!
Oftentimes whenever I'm attempting to adjust colors in a selected area of an image, the colors just around, and totally outside of the selection will be affected. Like, say I want to add some red to a selected area, I might put the paint bucket on 10% opacity, and use the "fill whole selection" option, but somehow the red will also leave a red ring around the area I've selected. Or if I want to lighten up an area, I'll select the area and maybe adjust the brightness or exposure, but the area just outside the selection will get lightened up too. Why? What causes this? Did I mess up something in the settings? I'm no expert at using GIMP by any means, so that's totally possible. Still it seems odd to me that when I'm working on a selection, something outside the selection would be affected at all. Has anyone experienced this or know what causes it?
EDIT: Solved the problem, turned off "Feather Edges" in the selection tool.
I'm doing a thing where I'm trying to overwrite numbers on an existing image. I type the new number, carefully match size and kerning so that it overlaps as much as it can, remove alpha, and merge down. Problem is, if there is any other element above the numbers, alpha removal also overwrites the element above.
Maybe it would be easier to erase the existing number, rather than just trying to cover it up with a nontransparent text box. But if there wasn't so much padding at the top of the box, my current way would be easier. Is there some way to get rid of that padding? Trying to shrink the box just pushes the text down.
I've run into an issue with bimp. I've been using GIMP on my work iMac(Sonoma 14.4) and I've run into a situation where I have to batch resize alot of images. I've installed BIMP and it should be running as I bypassed all the gatekeep stuff and took every step to install it. But when I open GIMP it doesn't show me the batch option. Did I do something wrong or is it an OS issue?
Is there such an effect in gimp to create in image like this? If so, how is it named? The image has been text in multiple colors
When I make a selection over a part of a image how can i overlap another image over the selection I made?
I am currently using a Wacom Intuos pro with Gimp 2.10.36 on a laptop with external peripherals with windows 10, but the problem has been present for years and I've found a workaround but its annoying enough for me to want a permanent fix.
Whenever I use the stylus with a tool like Transform, Resize, Rotate, Shear and all the perspective transform tools, the toolbox starts flickering rapidly between those tools (they are all under one icon menu in the toolbox) destroying the careful transformation performed. It doesn't happen when using the mouse, and doesn't happen while using drawing tools as far as I've experienced, but happened befor on a different computer with the text tool as well.
A workaround that seems to work is to check the "share tool and tool options between input devices" box under input device preferences. However, this makes all input devices share the selected tool, which renders the wacom eraser tool at the op of the stylus useless, which is rather annoying and inefficient. I've searched far and wide and I've seen many people with that problem but only the aforementioned workaround as a solution. Does anyone happen to know what causes the problem and how to fix it? (I have a hunch its something to do with the input flickering between mouse or trackpad and pen input whenever a tool with a popup external box is used, even when not touching the mouse or trackpad, but I don't know why it would do that.)
I’ve been having a lot of problems with this lately, any help is appreciated!
