Clean your damn roof. The storm was over a week ago, are you telling me you seriously haven’t had the time to clean the 8” of snow off the top of your vehicle?

Not only does it make you look like an idiot, but it also creates a hazard for everyone else when it blows a bunch of dust making it hard to see, or even better when a chunk flys off at speed and cracks my windshield.

So you might notice I have 907 in my username. That’s because I live in south central and tbh I want to travel more and see more of home I haven’t seen.

I’m in my early 20s and tbh I want to shake of those small town fears of “every corner is dangerous other than our little bubble down here.”

What do you recommend out here? I’ve been around a lot of south central but I know it’s nowhere near the same as up north.

I was thinking of buying a set there, but I’m seeing quite an argument over the quality of service at such centers over in the Costco subreddit. Is ours decent in your experience, as far as sales and service go?

For the love of god, some of us are learning to drive on these icy, rutted roads for the first time in our lives. Hey everyone! I graduate high school this summer and plan on applying to UAF for a degree in CS or Wildlife Biology and Conservation (Or something related to animals and nature) to attend the following fall. Before I make any big decisions, what is life like at UAF? I have already researched a ton about Fairbanks in general (Super cold, dry. expensive, dark, etc) But I'm having a hard time finding info about UAF. Do I have to live on campus? I'm interested in atleast trying a dry cabin. If I do live on campus, what is the pet policy as I have a chinchilla and cornsnake. How compact is the campus (As in is it hard to make it to class to class on time). Are the people friendly? I also have the funds for a car, but waiting until I confirm that I'm going to move to Alaska to buy one. What are the best cars for daily commute in the cold? Any extra information will also be helpful. Thanks so much!

I have basically never skied and tried near my house today on something totally ungroomed. Ate shit immediately, got frustrated, quit within 5 minutes.

Does anyone else spray WD-40 inside their auger deck and chute to minimize clogging with wet snow? My three-stage Cub Cadet was useless during this last storm. A neighbor mentioned this trick after the fact, but I haven't tried it yet. Cheers, SB

Dry film lubricant (good at low temps, buy in town/challenging to ship to AK), diesel fuel, WD-40, Pam cooking spray, and car wax. Maybe Clark W. Griswold’s non-nutritive cereal varnish. 😉

A friend of ours has a Toyo Stove in his cabin and it is giving an error code of E 6. Can anyone tell me what this is and how to fix it?

Was just talking to my sister about Fairbanks and as far as we can recall most bars don’t take card in Alaska. I know the Spur will open one for you with a $100 minimum and the upstairs ‘brewery’ of the Mine takes card. Why is it that most don’t?

What do you lovely people recommend for clothes in Fairbanks - especially during the winter? I've been looking at wool socks, layers, etc. Definitely leaning towards getting snow boots and Blundstones, the thermal ones. I believe they're insulated with sheepskin as well, obviously pair them with wool socks. As far as coats go, I'm looking at Carhartt, either the warmest rating or the third one. Before I drop 100's of dollars, I figured I'd get some recs! Thank you so much. EDIT: mostly looking for casual shoe recs and coats. I have a pair of good snow boots. Mostly will be walking from classes at UAF, walking our dog and going grocery shopping.

So I just slid off Ballaine into a ditch in a Subaru I just bought last week. It is leaking coolant and the bumper is messed up but I really just need it to be drivable. Does anyone on here know anything about Subaru’s and possibly be willing to help. I don’t have a lot of money since I just spent it on this car, but I can offer a little. hiya, i’m curious if anybody here has lived in a dry cabin or knows about them. particularly how expensive are heating bills and the like? is it cost effective to live in one? how much does it suck not having running water for things like using the bathroom? i’m not a super high maintenance person so it sounds like a bit of a fun adventure to me, but i just want to get an idea of it before i go all in and get serious about moving into one.

I’m sorry, but I have to vent. I just got back from a trip to Washington and realized how insanely inflated and scarce our groceries are. I read that groceries have increased 20+% since the pandemic but in Fairbanks it is more than double. Add to that the fact that so many things are out of stock, bare shelves, poor selection it’s almost enough to make me move down below.

Hey yall as someone who hasn’t gone fishing or hunting in 10 ish years ( and was a teenager who didn’t take it to seriously to boot). Where would yall recommend I get started when it comes to learning the rules, finding places where I can fish and hunt etc. keep in mind ten years ago I lived in western New York and just stepped foot in this beautiful state five months ago and have been stuck at a work site for about four months total haha. Thank you all for reading ! I’m local to Fairbanks by the way but willing to drive if a spot or recourse for learning is out of town.
