Does anyone know if you can walk in to the Vital Records office in Anchorage and request/buy a copy of your marriage certificate?
I spent 2 hours on hold today waiting for someone to hopefully answer to ask them, but no luck before they closed at 3p.
We ordered copies off of the LexisNexis site but that says it will take 2-3 weeks to even process before shipping.
Their site says LexisNexis is the most “expedient” option, but we are on a bit of a tight deadline due to a pending surgery date that we need to merge insurance for.
We’re on the KPenn, so I’d like to know before making the trip. Was curious if anyone had any idea.
Here's a story I wrote for the Chilkat Valley News about a dead harbor seal that's missing most of it's head. The NOAA folks I talked too said they've seen this a few other times throughout the state, but don't know if it's happening pre- or post-mortem.
We've had a lot of speculation locally about what may have caused it, but I'd love to know if anyone else is seeing it.
Thoughts?
hey guys i’m traveling to belize in january for 2 months. i’ve been looking online to buy a new carry-on backpack since my old osprey bag is too big for alaska airlines now (apparently they’re being super strict regarding dimensions for carry-ons recently).
according to alaska “The carry-on bag size limit for flights on all aircraft types is to 22'' x 14'' x 9'' - these dimensions include the wheels and handles”
i’m trying to pack LIGHT. obviously this and and a personal item. but i’m curious if anyone has any recommendations for a sturdy, good quality, carry-on backpack. price doesn’t matter i just need it to fit the dimensions and be somewhat comfortable since ill be trecking all over belize.
TIA!!
I found this bone hair pick while walking downtown Anchorage. Anyone know what kind of bone it is?
Back in 2019, I decided to take a break from life in Australia and traveled to Alaska for some time away. I brought along my camera, hoping to capture the beauty of the place. While I was there, I had the chance to meet a man named Paul W. We ended up chatting for a few hours and took some photos during our time together.
Eventually, I returned to Australia, and life went on, but I’ve always thought about those photos. They turned out pretty sick, and I can’t help but wonder if he’d like to see them someday. I don’t know much about him, but by chance, if he ever comes across this, I’d love to share these pics.

A company from the Lower 48 has lost its contract with a major client in Alaska and is being bought out by another company. The company has cut the pay of all of its workers. Big pay cuts. My question: Would you take the pay cut or stop showing up for work until you got fired?
Why the HELL do people feel the need to go 20 under the speed limit when it’s not icy out??? So annoying.
IHow is GCI cell service outside? Recently switched from ACS to GCI for internet as ACS in Fbx is shite. Considering getting a bundle to include cell service. currently have Verizon cell service, but I pay over $150/month for 2 phones and iPad- feel that might be high? But if service stateside will be crap I’ll keep them
Sitting at Crema, a very nice coffee shop in the valley. I love to come in the weekends, enjoy a superb cup of coffee and a very good apple pastry. But here is the thing; as I asked for sugar (5 packs for a large coffee, yes I have a sweet tooth) I was told that they are charging extra for that... That just makes me sad because I used to love the place (a whole 20 minutes ago) but feeling like I'm getting nickel and dimmed is really messing the happy-happy-joy-joy feeling. My daughter on the other hand (who is a sociopath that don't put sugar in her coffee) says that I'm over reacting. Which of course she would say that, she still likes the place.
Am I being petty or are they being petty?
Loved the pics that were shared so far so I figured I’d add my contribution. Always enjoy watching the sun go down on one end of the slough, while the night comes up on the other end.
