Companies that help other organisations move to free/open source software?

Here's an interesting set of examples of companies and government organisations (e.g. Munich City Council and the French police) that have made a switch from Windows to Ubuntu to e.g. save on licensing costs https://www.techrepublic.com/article/five-big-names-that-use-linux-on-the-desktop/

Are there any such companies that help other organisations move to open source software?

Likewise are there any initiatives to promote the use of Linux in schools? I believe one of the main reasons Windows is so popular is because know how to use it having used it at school.

Is anyone else concerned that Microsoft is on the Linux Board of directors?

It just seems very hypocritical to have a closed source software maker/distributer on a board with completely different purposes. Oh, and also the OSI banned Eric S. Raymond from the mailing lists.

Very concerned about Vikings GmbH

4/1/2020: I am pleasantly surprised that things seem to be working out. It has apparently been shipped and they upgraded me to me much faster shipping than I paid for and RAM as well. Very confusing considering the way this went before, but I will say I am now very confident things are ok. I am still very confused as to why I was unable to get an estimated shipping date for so long, but I’m just happy I will be receiving my order.

UPDATE 3/17/2020: so I actually received not only an email today, but an expected shipping date. I’m still not sure if I should get my hopes up yet but it’s seeming like it may actually be shipped. I’m really hoping so.

UPDATE 3/14/2020: my emails are still all being ignored, and now whenever I attempt to email them, the email address I use is blocked and any further emails are rejected. It’s pretty clear now they have scammed me which is just unbelievable.

I am again setting an appointment to contact an attorney, whom I believe will also recommend filing a report with the FTC, as they have clearly violated the FTC’s prompt delivery rule even before they started blocking my emails.

UPDATE 3/10/2020: I am still having problems sadly.. my emails asking for a time frame were again ignored for 3 days until I sent a “product question” from a separate account that was replied to within an hour.

I replied back explaining that my emails from my other email address have gone ignored, and explained how concerned I was regarding this situation. I asked if they could please send me an update at their convenience once per two weeks.

They replied stating they don’t have the resources for that. I found this concerning, but they stated my order was still on the way, so I decided to reply asking if I could just get either a time frame, or a time frame of when I would get an update.

When I tried to send the email it was apparently blocked, which I am still confused about.

I used a separate email account to send it and it then went through.

I am hoping they didn’t try and block my email, but I don’t know what to think now. I’m hoping I receive some kind time frame, whatever it may be

On January 28th I placed an order from Vikings. (https://store.vikings.net/), and paid $1388.45 mainly for the d8 workstation with some extra things.

I was told around February that they recently moved locations so my order would be delayed, and said not a problem. I emailed them for an update on Feb. 23, and they responded saying my order would be shipped either the end of the week or the beginning of next, and offered to upgrade my shipping due to the delay.

I again said this was ok, and stated that there was no need to upgrade my shipping so long as I was kept updated on the status of my order.

I sent another email on March 2nd asking for an update, as that is the day they said would be the latest my order should be shipped. I received no response to this email.

I two more emails yesterday and today, and still have heard nothing.

I am getting very concerned, because I talked to a friend I had recommended the shop to who was thinking about making an order, and apparently they replied to him right away.

I don’t want to jump to conclusions but it seems like they have no intention of shipping my order.

I am very surprised as before this I had purchased a kcma-d8 motherboard with some other items, and had no problem with them.

I paid with bitcoin, which makes this situation all the more frustrating.

I have an appointment with a lawyer soon to go over my options if they continue to ignore me, but I am sincerely hoping this is a misunderstanding and I will receive my order.

TL:DR: I spent $1388 on a d8 workstation and some other items from Vikings store (https://store.vikings.net/d8ryf) It has been well over a month, many of my emails have been ignored, and it seems are now being blocked. I am hoping to receive a time frame for my order but am not hopeful at the moment.

Need a new laptop in January. Sick of refurbs dying after a year. What's the latest in Linux laptops?

I'd rather stick with AMD64 if possible.

Do we know of any FSF-endorsed distros that would be available for the PineBook Pro (ARM CPU)?

The FSF needs to start a campaign against Google fonts (APIs) - they're used for tracking and they're everywhere, in every wordpress-based website (~34% of the Internet is Powered by WordPress)...

During trisquel install this text shows under wifi "connecting to this wifi network allows you to install third party software"

Im new to trisquel so im wondering if I installed a hacked iso because that seems off.

Why isn't OBS FSF certified?

This makes no sense to me. From the onset it is completely libre software from what I see under the GPL-V2 and it also happens to also be the best option for streaming over even proprietary options.

Edit: Referring to FSF Directory.

Thoughts on RK3328

I understand the FSF reviewed devices based on the RK3288 but haven't seen anything on the RK3328 and devices like the Pine64 Rock64. Does it require non-free software?

I wonder if a shift toward a software user "bill of rights" and away from ideological purity would be a good idea
