Last night’s Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight on Netflix was an absolute mess. The platform crashed for a ton of people, some couldn’t log in, and others had such horrible signal issues that they couldn’t even stream the fight. It feels like every time we get closer to fully “cutting the cord,” something like this happens to remind us that we’re not really as free as we think.
For years, we’ve been moving away from cable to streaming apps, but these kinds of events highlight how fragile this new system really is. With cable, you rarely had to worry about "signal strength" unless there was a literal storm outside. Now, all it takes is too many people trying to log in at once, and the entire thing collapses.
And let’s be honest, internet providers don’t make it any easier. Many people still don’t have access to reliable high-speed internet, especially in rural areas. So, while companies keep pushing streaming as the future, a huge chunk of people are being left behind—or end up paying for both cable and streaming just to avoid these issues.
I think this fight exposed how dependent we’ve become on these apps and how vulnerable we are when they don’t work. Cutting the cord isn’t just about ditching cable anymore—it’s about needing infrastructure that can actually support the "future" these companies keep promising us.
What did you all think? Were you able to watch the fight, or did you have issues too? Is it just me, or are we further from real cord-cutting freedom than we think?
Title, I want to watch the golden state warriors (I live near portland, oregon for reference) games for the cheapest option on my fire stick. I thought about buying league pass but all the good matchups are on espn. Is my best way to go through youtube tv and add on league pass?
I have all the big ones and YTTV. But I'm wondering if I'm missing out on something good that wouldn't be a huge monthly cost. I tend to lean towards AMC+ but I also wonder about MGM+, not knowing anything about its programming. Showtime is already paired with Paramount, correct? What's a good documentary/learning streamer? At one point I had Curiosity, but wasn't impressed at the time. If it's improved I'd be willing to try again, but now there's Magellan? What's that like? I had PBS Passport too, for a bit, but can watch all the Antique Roadshows I want on FAST. Anyway, suggestions welcome!
https://www.rabbitears.info/s/1817506 Right now I have one of those rca flat antennas that look like this https://www.homedepot.com/p/RCA-Indoor-Ultra-Thin-360-Multi-Directional-HDTV-Antenna-with-45-Mile-Range-ANT1120/317880219 I can pick up 22 channels but I don't get the channel 25 range which has METV-Toons or 57 or 69

so im planning on canceling my xfinity cable and internet package to just internet was wondering for those with AT@T is it worth it think its around $60 a month while xfinity i think is still about $100 last i was quoted( had a think $70 after taxes but somehow they backed out said it wasnt available last minute -shady) im located in MA also this might be fiber ( will that make a difference)
Hi all,
https://www.rabbitears.info/searchmap.php?request=result&study_id=1817055
Wanted to get a good indoor antenna (if possible) as sometimes I lose out on Channel 2 or Channel 13. Also, not sure if it's an antenna issue but it does take quite awhile for the channel list to show up. Would an digital tuner box help at all? Thanks for the help!
I was trying to find any good bundles since we have so many streaming services/monthly recurring memberships and noticed Bundled.
I used their little calculator is it said I usually spend around $900 a year for all my memberships (not just streaming, but also peloton, amazon prime, costco, etc), but if I use their services, I could be saving over $400.
Has anyone used this before/recommend them? It seems too good to be true, so what's the catch?
We are in a rural area and the property had a big concrete base that used to have one of those huge earlier satellite dishes on it that we replaced with a smaller direct tv dish. The dish is about 40 feet from the house. Direct TV is was too expensive now and finally want to switch to antenna. We have a metal roof so husband doesn’t really want to put antenna on roof. Will this work? Any suggestions for brand of antenna would be appreciated. Husband likes the DVR and ease of channel surfing but it’s just crazy expensive now.
Edit to add: will check the wiki page Edit to add: found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/cordcutters/s/pMAaNpJJTH
Edit to add: Is there anyway to know whether just adding an antenna in our attic would work without just trying it and bringing the larger tv upstairs to check. We are slowly finishing our upstairs but will have some attic space. Here is our data if it helps:
Looking for a cheap and reliable indoor antenna, live in an upstairs apartment, and want to spend around $50
Am I paying too much for high speech internet?
Here is where things stand after all of the Diamond Sports bankruptcy hearing news this week:
Link to my full spreadsheet breaking down every team's situation
It definitely seems like the cable sports bubble is finally bursting, although be prepared to pay roughly $20/month for your team. I'm hopeful we'll see a few more of the remaining teams add more fan-friendly options before opening day!
I haven't considered cord cutting before simply because it seemed that bundling cable and internet came to about the same price as going with just internet and multiple streaming accounts. Recent research seems like that may have changed for me, but I'm still too dumb to wrap my head around it. So, here's the situation:
My Xfinity package has been rising to now be at $247/mo with taxes and fees. AT&T just installed fiber in our neighborhood, so I started looking into that. The same internet speeds would cost $80/mo. So, I figured with YouTube TV priced at $73/mo, we'd be saving about almost $100/mo. Seems like a great deal, right?
What I struggle with is understanding if we'll get what we want with YouTube TV. Our biggest frustration right now is accessing our local sports teams. Lawsuits between the teams and their carrier meant that a lot of games were blacked out this year. Now that has been settled, but Xfinity didn't include the channel on our package. My parents have YouTube TV and struggled a lot with blackout when they started. Is this common, or is it easy to deal with?
Some background on us in case it helps put things in perspective. We enjoy sports, local and national (US) news, gameshows, and children's TV for it toddler. My wife mostly works from home and needs reliable, fast Internet. We have two TVs with Roku, plus laptops, tablets, phones, etc. We currently have Disney+/Hulu/ESPN, Netflix, Prime, and some accounts provided as part of our calls like Max.
And insights could help. Thanks!
It's that time of year again, time to create your billionth fake email address so you can cash-in on some sweet, sweet, Hulu savings.
Or not?
I'm wondering if all of the recent ESPN and Disney changes will finally put this deal to bed. I've been paying $2.99 a month for 12 months of Hulu and Disney (with commercials) which is IMO a great deal, fingers crossed we see something similar this year.
Title says it all, i want to know which one is better for watching spanish dubs and spanish originals. Is roku worth it for the roku channel's spanish selection?
I watch tv mostly on a tablet, and I'm tired of Xfinity. We live in a suburban area approx 40 miles from stations off, all around us. (DC, Baltimore, etc), with hills and tree interference. I also have to be able to deal with an HOA about it's outdoor setup. 1. Is there a good omnidirectional antenna that would be good enough? 2. And that will work with a device like Zapperbox, tablo etc, so I can stream to my tablet. Or a better device? I really don't care about recording. Other options?
Howdy folks. I don’t know if this is the right place to post this but I was directed here from the NFL sub. I’ve been watching replays of games from throughout the season on my iPad while I work. But the other day it randomly started cutting off a good chunk of the image whenever I go full screen. I thought maybe the app would update soon but it’s been a few days with no update and it’s still happening. This doesn’t happen on my iPhone, and the app worked perfectly fine on the iPad until it didn’t. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app, as well as turned the iPad off and back on. No success. Any ideas?
I currently have a flat antenna that I think I got for free with a Roku a while back. I have it placed in a window, pugged into a WinTV-dualHD which is connected to my Plex server. After scanning, it does pick up 36 channels, however a good amount of channels show light to heavy macroblocking.
I'm looking to upgrade and have been doing some research, but I'm not sure what to upgrade to. At first I was looking at something like this and then I started looking at the ClearStream 4 antennas. The part I'm not sure how to find is each antennas coverage angles (not sure if that's the correct verbiage).
Here is my RabbitEars report. The majority of the channels I'm looking for are to the south of me, but in a ~95 degree cone, and as you can see, there are also channels north of me. I'm not really sure what type of antenna would be the best for my situation, and also don't want to go way overkill if it's not needed. My plan with the two antennas listed above was to place them in my attic as the window to the room where my Plex server is points NW.
Edit: Another question, would I need a signal amplifier?
Went to Frndly tonight and noticed right away that many shows on many channels were no longer marked for DVR recording. Even worse, as I attempted to remark various shows for the DVR system, they would not allow it, with a notice that the program was not available for recording.
As I continued to scroll through the channels, it seemed that the 'H&I' channel program listing was at least partially swapped with METV, mainly with a lot of westerns and the like, replacing the sci fi fare. 'Catchy Comedy' and 'FETV' were afflicted as well. I noted that as I went through things, it appeared some channels and DVR settings were slowly being updated, but i dont know if they are actually fixing the system or things are fixing themselves at random. It does appear they changed some things in the guide, to promote new pay channels and such, maybe in doing so it wacked the system somehow and caused it to randomly or in wholesale fashion causd major problems.
I guess I'll stop trying to repair the damage and revisit the system first thing tomorrow and see if any repairs have been done.

I can do attic, outside or behind TV. I am planning on attic. I have lots of tall trees outside.
I want to get this PBS station even in bad weather. I also want local channels, mainly ABC in HD.

My budget is up to $130 for an attic install. I was looking at this one on Amazon.
Is that overkill? Should I save money? It's not my money. It's for my parents, and they just want something that will work good. It's more about saving me time doing a big install.
What channel was FanDual? Their app suddenly appeared on my TV, I can only assume that an existing station and platform was re-launch. What was it before FanDual?
I am using two devices and in both devices it is the same. i use Onn 4k and Chromecast 4k. I have tried uninstalling the app many times but nothing helps. any recommendations?
So I'm trying to decide between the ONN puck versus something like the Roku premiere. I'm trying to stay away from fire TV branded because I don't like how cluttered it is. Anybody have pros /cons.
So I'm looking at getting NOW TV purely for a couple of the live channels, rather than spending like £30-£40 a month for me to use a couple of channels. I can use the aerial as my freeview channels but I'm curious if it's possible to have for example GOLD with the freeview where the free comes from the aerial and when I turn to GOLD it uses the NOW TV subscription. I know I can get Sky Stream but they denied me that for some unknown reason.
