Oh sure, the empress can leave her dad encased in stone but corvo isn't allowed to do the same.
Also, whenever I went into the pub after the loading screen of a mission, I just played it at the beginning of the split. I tried, but I haven't done High Chaos in so long.
Platform: PS5
Is it safe to buy used one? I mean, will I get base game + DLCs and everything? Or it contains some one time used codes so it is not viable for re-sell?
I would buy new one but I cannot see it available in my area. The only new one is digital edition.
Just finished DotO. Anyone have suggestions for similar games to play next?
Emily:
"Ah, the Hatter Gang. Also ready to profit from times of turmoil."
"The Hatter Gang, damn them."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Corvo:
"Leave it to the Hatter Gang to try to profit from the chaos of this coup."
"Shit. The Hatter Gang."
Emily:
"You deserved that, Ramsey."
"Goodbye, you entitled bastard."
"Traitor. That was for my father."
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Corvo:
"That was for my daughter, traitor."
"Early retirement, captain."
I'm just about to begin my annual replay of the series. I skipped last year (so I guess it isn't technically "annual" anymore), but I've been replaying the games every December since D2 came out in 2016. I don't know why December, but I enjoy replaying everything this month.
Anyway, I usually will complete a run where I let the chips fall where they may. This means that I don't save scum if I screw up. After that, I'll complete a "perfect" run where I get the Ghost, Clean Hands, and Shadow achievements. Basically, I try to be as sneaky and stealthy as possible.
Does anyone else have a specific time of the year they run through the series? It doesn't have to be December. I think I chose this month because it's the end of the year and the games came out later in their respective years (D1 in October 2012, D2 in November 2016 and DotO in September 2017).
It is done. I love this game from the beginning to the end, it was a pleasure to have the possibility of playing the dlcs on Steam since I did not play the Definitive edition on PS3 when I first approached the game. I have to say the DCT achievements were a real challenge, but I really enjoyed doing low caos-clean hands-undetected runs both in the original game and its dlcs. I'll take a break then jump right into Dishonored 2 which I have yet to try ^^
As far as I know, there weren't any wanted posters for either of them back in 1849. So I'm sure the guards would be fine with it if the empress herself or her royal protector were to show up and just ask to see Stilton.
Do the performers leave every time you bring Byne into Howler territory? That is such bullshit.
Seeing the performers first time is easy enough don't piss anyone off in the area don't be seen by the guard by the train enjoy the music. I do enjoy the music. Third one likewise. Don't piss anyone off, stand and listen to the music. But the second performance in the Dust District is such a pain. Sneak in hide and hope you're not seen and HOPE you're close enough to register. I found a path behind the two howlers near abbey territory you can crawl through a tunnel leading into the howler basement and then you creep upstairs behind the register and hide under the stairs. You can hear the band loud and clear. But it didn't pop when I got to the third performance. Utter bs
Every time I bring Byrne into the building everyone leaves and doesn't come back.
I bought dishonored death of the outsider and not the dishonored 1 which is what I thought I bought, whoops. I still love the dishonored I bought.
so i started clean hands ghost very hard run and i did not do the 2nd mission with clean hands will this stop me from getting clean hands without starting a new run
Rules: Must complete every level on the hardest difficulty, sparing everyone and never being seen, while also trying to knock out as little enemies as possible.
Dishonored: 2 required knockouts, the two guards guarding the prison gate you plant the bomb on. They have the possibility to die from the blast and also immediately spot you when it explodes.
High Overseer Campbell: 1 required knockout, High Overseer Campbell, to brand him and save Captain Curnow.
House of Pleasure: No required knockouts!
The Royal Physician: 1 required knockout, Sokolov, to transport him to the hound pits.
Lady Boyle's last party: 1 required knockout, Lady Boyle, to put her on the stalkers boat.
Return to the Tower: No required knockouts!
The Flooded District: No required knockouts!
The Loyalists: Well.... in order to save Sokolov and Piero, the arc pylon knocks out everyone on the map. Technically avoidable but I felt bad leaving them behind.
The Light at the End: No required knockouts!
Conclusion: You can beat Dishonored on the hardest difficulty without ever being detected and never killing anyone with only 5 knock outs!
Can't get past how hard this quote was, and it's actually a good quote to use irl
I need to make another post about the Outsider's quotes, he alongside Daud have some of the hardest lines in games
As the title said I just started the game on PC and Emily's voice is really quiet when talking directly to people. When she's narrating and when she's talking to people but the camera is away from them it's normal but when it's directly talking to someone it's really quiet. Anyone have the fix for it?
Back on a Dishonored marathon after re-finishing the first and second game. The Dishonored universe is one of the best fictional universes I've ever encountered (FYR other universes I'm also super into are A Song of Ice and Fire, The Last Airbender, Harry Potter and The Elder Scrolls), so I also took this chance to dive into the books and comics to immerse deeper into this dark and eerie fantasy world.
Just finished the final chapter of The Corroded Man, here are my thoughts, spoiler alert:
I really enjoyed the plot. There was always a bit of mystery around who Zhukov is and what he's after, and the revelations were thrilling to read. I found the pacing decent and I was glad the story didn't drag on and overstay its welcome. Shifting the POV between Corvo, Emily and the Whalers was also refreshing, and it was nice seeing the POVs develop and intersect.
The 'interlude' chapters were also great little snippets of filler that added more to the background, and I found them pleasant little distractions that I looked forward to at the end of each arc.
The ending was a little rushed, kind of attributes everything to the weirdness of the Void, and makes it seem like Emily and Corvo got out alive out of pure cosmic luck after blindly charging in and pulling the twin-bladed knife out of thin air.
The best part IMO. It was fascinating to revisit familiar locations from the games, like Dunwall Tower, the Brigmore Mansion, Slaughterhouse Row and the Boyle Mansion. It was also nice to see characters other than the main ones make a return, like the Boyles, Slackjaw and Callista. It gave us more details about how these characters ended up after the games, and felt like a good expansion to the universe.
The addition of excerpts from in-game texts at the beginning of each chapter was also a really nice touch, kind of reminded me of the Dune novels. It reminds you of the depth of this universe, and it also brought my attention to the fascinating in-game text 'The Deep Watchers', which I totally missed while playing the games. That text really makes me ponder the significance of leviathans, and how the Eye of the Dead God could be related to them.
We also get to see a lot more about Tyvia, which was awesome. It's a completely new world, far away from Dunwall and Karnaca. Makes me wish Dishonored 3 would take place there, if it's ever made (the Pandyssian Continent would be my second choice). From the description of Dabokva, I can already imagine missions being set there, under architecture and weather that's vastly different from Gristol and Serkonos.
Also references to people, objects and events featured in the game, like Granny Rags, the Rat Plague, Addermire solutions, Overseer music boxes etc. and much more really make the story feel connected to the games and the overall universe.
The only complaint I have is the writing quality. It's not bad, but not the best. I appreciate that it's simple and to the point most of the time, but sometimes the sentence structure just feels a bit 'jagged' for want of a better word. I can't put my finger on the precise cause, but the writing just didn't flow for me. I also read the Final Fantasy 7 Traces of Two Pasts this year, and the prose in that was buttery smooth, and that was despite it being a translation from Japanese. Also, adding an Animal Farm reference when describing Tyvia was extremely jarring. I was kind of hoping the prose would also have a bit of that mesmerizing, mysterious, slightly archaic quality found in the in-game texts, but there was none of that here.
Character dialogue can also sometimes be cheesy and uninteresting, I don't feel any personality behind the dialogue. Good dialogue can really make a story shine (like in the GRRM Song of Ice and Fire novels) but the author just doesn't have that touch.
Also I've had enough of characters 'grinning' at each other. Corvo grins at Emily, Emily grins at Wyman, Wyman grins back and so on. It seems like the go-to verb for the author to convey a light-hearted moment, so you get non-stop grinning sprinkled throughout the book.
All in all, I guess this is really subjective, the writing may feel completely different for someone else who was brought up on different types of books as I was I suppose. But it's definitely not a deal-breaker in any way, just something I wanted to point out.
Conclusion
All in all, a decent read, an 8 out of 10 for me, and I will definitely move on to The Return of Daud someday.
(first edit to fix grammar and spelling)
(second edit to add more details about writing quality complaints)
I've decided to go back to the immersive sim genre these past few months, playing and enjoying System Shock 2 and Arx Fatalis. And now it's finally Dishonored turn.
I've been anticipating this moment since I remember playing through the first couple of missions a long time ago and having a blast, but I had to put off playing the game since I didn't have much free time.
But here I am today, after so many years, and unfortunately I guess my patience must have dwindled down a lot. I've only played the first mission, tried my best at being stealthy but I still ended up killing around 50% of the guards, the ones who spotted me. Also the fact that the game displays how much coins and stuff I've missed while playing the mission really triggers my completionist side, while rubbing against the other side of "I don't want to replay the same mission again"
I'd like to enjoy the game the same way I played the first Deus Ex: go stealthy, and if I get caught I can just fight my way out of a bad situation. Explore as much as I want, but without the game telling me "yeah, but you only got 80% of the stuff!"
In my eyes, it seems that Dishonored really wants to punish the playstyle I would mostly enjoy. Don't get me wrong, I love reactivity in games, but I just don't want to replay the same mission again and again until I get a result that the game deems good enough. And I really don't like save scumming.
So, what's the point of this post? I don't know. I'm just sad that I'm not enjoying the game as much as I thought I would. It's with a heavy heart that I'm deciding to skip over this one and jump forward to Prey.
I am blind deaf and dumb. I search high and low every room even the secret ones. I've put 500 hours into the game. On playstation. Now in x box I'm going for the trophy and I am to find just over half or half in most levels. I know there are guides but what is the mentality to get into to find the money if I'm missing this much? If that makes sense. How do you hone your THIEF sense?
Hello, I'm someone who loves videogames, I used to watch the dishonored 2 trailer and gameplays of it and drool over it but I didn't have enough to buy it, I realized a few days ago that I never bought it even though I can now, so I was wondering, should I get the one or the two?
I already know about the 4 novelizations and strategy guides, is there anything else I'm missing?
This bug made me replay the mission two times, and for the second one I've downloaded Mission Stats mod - aside from access to statistics at any time during mission, mod also shows a message when someone spots you and when you kill someone. Turned out, that one mysterious kill appears after I choose the "Leave" option in dialogue with Lurk at the end of the mission. Prior to that - no kills registered. Any ideas how to fix that?
So I've been giving some thought to what happens when people die in Dishonored.
If I recall correctly the Overseers' doctrine says that when they die the faithful get peaceful oblivion whereas the void-touched, those who listen to the Outsider, wander in torment in the void. The fact we see a shade of Daud and others at the end of DotO supports this account, said shades gradually losing their memories and sense of self. Once released from the heart Jessamine seemingly disappears rather than wandering the void as a shade so this may support the view that oblivion is the fate of those without void influence or unfinished business.
It's seemingly possible to bind a person's essence to an object preventing them from moving on or otherwise dying, as the Outsider did with Jessamine and as Delilah did with her statue.
The third exceptional case is Delilah in between games. The games leave it ambiguous whether she died or was pushed into the portrait at the end of Brigmore Witches, but there's some evidence to suggest she was killed. If you use the heart in Dishonored 2 after putting Delilah's essence into it it will sometimes say:
"There are marks on our flesh. Made by the Knife of Dunwall. Cursed Daud, who hides in the world and breathes still."
This proves that Daud didn't use stealth to push her into the portrait and either fought her before pushing her in or simply killed her. In Dishonored 2 the Outsider phrases the situation as follows:
"At the end of her days she drifted through the void and should have been lost forever. But her will and cunning are second to none."
While ambiguous I'd say this supports the reading that Delilah actually died and should have been lost forever (like other shades) but that her willpower enabled her to hang on and eventually find the Outsider's birthplace. It feels to me like a case of splitting the difference between endings, making Delilah dead *and* having her lost in the void while keeping things vague enough that people can keep their preferred outcome.
I'm reasonably confident in this account but any thoughts, comments or things I may have overlooked? I have to say that I like the novelty of seeing a religion with no afterlife, where peaceful nonexistence is seen as the reward for a virtuous life. Sort of fits the idea that this is a world with a devil but no god, with a hell/purgatory but no heaven.
