**Gene Champagne: Embracing Literacy and Joy**

**Gene Champagne: Embracing Literacy and Joy**

As a child, I often found it difficult to learn. I wasn’t the best student, and my way of coping with that was by acting out—often as the class clown. I loved making people laugh. In fact, I think I enjoyed making other kids smile and laugh more than anything else, even though deep down I was sad. It was my way of feeling good and brightening others’ days, but it came at a cost.

I didn't focus on learning as much as I should have, and now, as an adult, I’m faced with a tough reality: my reading and writing skills aren't where they should be. To be honest, it’s a little embarrassing to admit, but it’s important. I’ve been living with this gap in my education, and it's a constant reminder of how easy it can be to fall behind.

I share this because I want to encourage anyone who might be considering leaving school early or dropping out to think twice. One day, you might wish you had finished high school, or had pushed through the struggles to learn how to read and write properly. Literacy is so important—it affects everything you do, and it's never too late to work on it.

I’m proud to say that I’ve found something that’s helping me bridge that gap in my learning: **ChatGPT**. Having this tool has been like a lifeline. It helps me express myself more clearly, correcting my spelling, punctuation, and grammar in a way that makes my thoughts readable and understandable. For me, it’s not “cheating”—it’s like someone who can't walk using a wheelchair. It's a tool that helps me correct a limitation, just as a wheelchair helps someone move around.

I’ve noticed in past jobs that some of my bosses, and even colleagues, made fun of me for my difficulties with reading and writing—sometimes even laughing in my face. While that hurt, it never stopped me from trying to improve. Now, I’m able to share my thoughts and ideas more clearly, and I’ve learned not to be ashamed of where I started, but to embrace how far I've come.

For those who remember me from school, you know I spent most of my time in special education classes. It’s a part of my life that shaped me, but it’s not who I am today. I’ve worked hard to improve myself, and I'm excited that I can now share my voice and message clearly. Writing, for me, has become an extension of the joy I’ve always wanted to share. I spent my childhood making kids laugh, and now I hope my words bring joy, kindness, and love to others.

This is my story. Gene Champagne—the "coolest dude in town"—might not have had the best start in education, but through determination and tools like ChatGPT, I’ve found a way to express myself and continue spreading joy.

Thank you for supporting me, and I hope my posts continue to uplift and inspire. Literacy is not just about reading and writing—it’s about connection. And that’s what I want to share: a message of love, joy, and kindness, no matter where you come from or what challenges you’ve faced.

Let’s keep spreading light and lifting each other up!

**Sincerity and Soul: Colin Boyd’s Masterful Touch in Deep Ellum**

**Sincerity and Soul: Colin Boyd’s Masterful Touch in Deep Ellum**

In the vibrant heart of Dallas’s Deep Ellum, Colin Boyd shines as a true gem of the local music scene. His song *Sincerity*, released in 2005, perfectly captures his ability to weave heartfelt lyrics with melodies that stay with you long after the final note. It’s a track that embodies everything Colin Boyd stands for: raw emotion, authenticity, and a deep connection to his craft.

Boyd’s live performances are where his artistry truly comes to life. Whether playing solo or collaborating with other talented local musicians, his presence on stage is magnetic. His recent partnership with fellow Dallas artist Dan Benjamin has created a dynamic combination of soulful storytelling and vibrant musicality that’s simply unforgettable. Together, they’ve redefined what it means to create a captivating live experience, filling every venue with energy and heart.

Colin Boyd’s acoustic style and poignant songwriting have made him a cornerstone of the Dallas music community. He doesn’t just play music—he tells stories, invites you into his world, and leaves you feeling connected in a way that few artists can achieve. Deep Ellum is lucky to have such a talented voice representing its rich musical legacy.

If you have the chance to catch one of Boyd’s performances, don’t miss it. His music will stay with you long after the show ends, a testament to his gift for creating art that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.

Long Weekend

Hello. We are two not-super-young couples coming into town for the weekend and staying in Deep Ellum. I have visited Deep Ellum twice and had a blast, but it’s been at least 5-6 years. We are punk rockers who love a good gig and supporting the live music scene. We also like local-leaning, laid-back bars with good music or a Touch Tunes-type jukebox. Places with cool outside areas, a brewery, or trivia would be fun, too. Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated and make our weekend better.

Best food spots for someone visiting?

Any suggestions would be appreciated! I’m open to anything as long as it’s casual and not one of those real flashy vibe places where everyone’s dressed to impress. Passed by a couple of those last night and just kept walking lol.

Guitar Player

When I moved to Dallas I heard this African American guitar player in Deep Ellum. He used to be there frequently but I haven’t seen him in a while. He looks young maybe under 30s and plays Hendrix style guitar and sometimes has a drummer and I think a bassist with him. If anyone knows who he is and can let me know his name and socials it would be much appreciated.

I'm here from NYC for a few weeks and I'm looking for some thc flower. Not cbd, or kratom or delta 8. Vapes are cool, but I'm most interested in the flower. How can I get that?

Band from the 90’s

I’m looking for a band that performed in Deep Ellum in the 90’s and their bass player would wear a storm trooper outfit on stage.

Deep Ellum metal scene: one of our own is in trouble, please help

If you've been around a while, you may remember a concert promoter by the name of Kelsey Arpeggio. Her house burned down last night. Thankfully she, her husband, 1 year old son, and both dogs made it out, but everything they owned is gone. Insurance is doing what insurance does, which is nothing.

Please share with others in the scene, maybe we can help her out, even a little helps: https://gofund.me/c16cc016

Trashing E-Scooters

20yrs ago a bunch of hipster fuckers wouldn't have chased you for torching a goddamn e-scooter. My wife had never been so I took her. A scooter got lit up, we got blamed, we got chased...It's a far cry from the 90's.

Advice on Deep Ellum

Edit: I got the internship! If anybody knows of any sublets or furnished apartments going, please send me a DM :)

Hey all! First time poster in this sub, hope I'm not violating any guidelines.

I'm in the running for an internship in Dallas, which I'm super excited about. The only thing is I'm from Europe & I don't have a car, and I know that is not ideal in a place like Dallas. The internship's headquarters are in Deep Ellum, so ideally I'd love to find a place in that area so that I can just walk or bike to work, should I be picked for the internship.

I wanted to reach out to ask for any advice, guidance, or tips on the area, how to find affordable-ish housing (around 1200 a month, flex), and whether you would recommend any neighboring areas to live, or which areas are the most easily accessible from Deep Ellum by public transport.

Thanks so much for reading! peace & love

Shout Out to club Trees for hosting the Souls of Mischief show last night

I don't think I've ever had so much fun on a Wednesday. Souls of Mischief of course delivered an awesome performance. The crowd was great and it was more than a concert but more like a gathering of friends. Go club Trees!
