We support any protests against Reddit being an ass about API pricing. While we're thinking what to do, consider heading over to lemmy.ml to create new communities not limited by corporate greed.
Dancing is an essential part of human culture, regardless of where you're from.
We wish to promote this art form and to allow people from all around the world to share their experiences on the subject of dancing!
In addition to being art, dancing can be a hobby, a sport, a profession, a way to represent your own feelings and thoughts or a form of nonverbal communication.
There is no single purpose or goal to dancing, except enjoyment!

As the title says. I’m a college student working on my capstone project this semester and I just need to choreograph and teach a group piece over 3 minutes. As well as light and costume design, but that’s more intuitive for me.
This is my first time really choreographing and teaching and I would really really really appreciate some pointers. What methods help you choreograph, how to avoid reusing the same moves, how to teach it, etc.
I’m doing a contemporary/modern piece to “My body is a cage” by Peter Gabriel, inspired by the myth of Medusa.
Any pointers, tips, advice, or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
Hey fellow dancers! I've been doing Heels dance for over a year now but still feel wobbly in my shoes. So I'm wondering : how can you know if it's a shoe problem or a you problem?
In my case, I have good balance when I'm dancing off shoes. Relevés and spins are not a problem. But as soon as I put my heels on it feels like my heel is going to slip out on me and I can't manage to walk a diagonal in a clean, controlled manner. Is it a core issue? Balance? Scoliosis? How to know? My shoes are Joheela dupes. Not the most expensive option but definitely dancing shoes.
Thanks to anyone who might reply, sorry for the weirdly worded question.
Have close to zero experience with dance and I'm trying to pick up some moves but te arm wave feels harder than I had imagined.
Did you take a mechanical approach to learning it with the 1s, 2s, 3s and so on or did you just let it flow through you and tried to perfect that?
Plus, how long did it take?
It's been a few years since I've needed character shoes and I want something inexpensive but that I can move in easily. I've been looking at the "EZ Flex" ones from Theatricals, but I am a bit wary of the single ankle strap. Does anyone have experience with them? Do they provide enough ankle support? Any other recommendations are encouraged, I just don't really want to pay the full cost of a leather shoe, and would prefer the price of a synthetic one.
If it helps, these are for burlesque, which means I'm looking for something at least 2", or else I'd just go back to the canvas ones I used to use for ballet.
Thanks!!
Btw, sorry if I'm using the wrong flair, I don't use Reddit and it seems to not want me to post without one
That about sums it up :). Trained my whole life contemporary, jazz, and ballet. The auditions also have a hip portion
I’ve always sucked at hip hop but am wondering if one and half weeks before auditions if I should take a few classes and give it a try?
Concern is mixing styles and then not shining in the trained areas
Any thoughts are helpful! TY💜
Trying to find a clearer tutorial or step layout of this video https://youtu.be/y3S4PrdyrWg?si=U-teyCYzfIMQFW7a
Specifically 1:00-1:20 mark
Any help is much appreciated thanks!
I remember catching cheer and dance finals on espn or espn2 sometimes. I know it wouldn’t be live like the paid subscriptions(varsityTV, Flo sports), but I’m ok with that.
My gym has a really big studio space and I’d love to use it! I never did dance as a kid because I wasn’t skinny and I had a large chest - I counted myself out. But I’m a marching band person and hope to teach it someday so I feel like a little bit of dance technique could go a long way for teaching body (marching band world word for choreography).
If anyone has any video recommendations for techniques, warm ups, or just any thoughts on the matter. I would say that to effectively teach marching band in the direction we’re going, basic ballet, Horton modern dance techniques, and musical theater style dancing is honestly pretty common.
I would take dance classes but I can’t afford it and I have a really busy school schedule so I can’t take any of the dance classes at my school.
hello, does anyone have an idea how she makes the camera move in and out in this short? https://youtube.com/shorts/aHpP2dHxivE?si=WUNJ4Ox9_4J4hc7L
Can someone identify the style please?
I quit studio dance at a young age due to a teacher problem and while my heart for dance never left, I still never got to experience these 3 styles. Lyrical and modern were both at my studio when I was there and contemporary was added years after I left. What’s the difference between these 3 styles? They all seem very similar to me considering the fact that you need ballet training in addition to these classes (at least that’s how it was at my studio). Which of these styles is the most fun in your opinion?
me and my sister can’t figure it out 🥲🥲 name or tutorial would be helpful <3

Posting for my husband who has been teaching a Mexican folk dance class once a week for the last four months in Manhattan. Experience necessary to take the class.
Teaches a two-hour class of 12-15 people (more or less). Young adults to adults, no kids.
How much is standard for him to be paid by the boss?
Edit: he’s been working volunteer and going to be back paid for the months of classes by the boss at a “fair rate” but doesn’t know what that fair rate would be.
Hi, I have the rythim of an artritic gibbon, and I'd like to improve.
However I don' t want to put effort into learning just a type of dance like (for example) samba and still not knowing how to move in (for example) non-samba related scenarios.
What dance is the most basic but also could be the most versatile?
Won’t be able to dance for 10 months . But respecting the body is respecting the art of dance. Does anyone have any ideas for how I can manage or continue to learn with this injury?
What are some good dancers / choreographers you follow on ig
