Did HEI Swap. Won’t start. Now Popping

Did the HEI swap today. Went to fire it up and it cranks but won’t start. Pulled cap and saw I was 180* out of tdc. Fixed it and no changes in starting. Then, it started making a popping sound as in the video.

Sandy Jeep got a new pace maker for her old heart

83CJ with 1966 ford 289 guts. Jeep mod is based off the Novak guide to installing a ford v8.

I’ve had great success with this mod and most of my issues once I got the frame stable have been engine reliability related. MSD electronic ignition and distribution seem to have me getting more horsepower and roughly 15-16 mpg. It hurt my heart a little to add the first onboard computer but since my sensible car has moved to my daughter then this is indeed my daily driver. Going to stretch the legs on a highway trip this coming weekend and see how it goes. Wish me luck. 🍀

CJ2A PTO

Does anyone know a resource that can help me identify the specs for a female spline that fits the PTO on a cj2a. Either where to buy or the measurements to make it yourself.

1980 cj5 California Smog/Build

I just got a 1980 CJ5 258 manual transmission. I'm in California. It hasn't run in 20 years. What do I need to have to pass smog? Does anyone have the vacuum tube diagram? Besides the Howell TBI kit, what else can I legally do to the engine?

1982 CJ5 update

Well, things are moving along step wise with the heep. She hasn’t earned a name yet but smokes less and is ready for an exhaust. Anyone have a favorite setup for the 2.5L?

CJ5 2.5L radiator replacement

Whelp I’ve lost patients trying to find a replacement rad online. I’m sure its there, but there’s so many dam options that i dont know which one is correct. Anyone have a link to one that will work? OG one measures 18”x19” roughly and Passenger side for lower rad hose.

Dash Switch connectors, removal, tools, and parts CJ7

CJ Fam,

I am working on my 83 CJ7 and I have had problems over the years with my Headlights switch, Wipers switch, and fan switch. I have mastered the removal of the dashboard Bezel and switch nut combo by adding a switch nut tool (sometimes called a bezel nut removal tool) to my tool box. Getting these switches in and out is pretty easy with the right tool. However, The actual connecters where the switches plug into the wires have dried and rotted to the point where they just sort of disintegrate as I do the switch replacement work. I've looked and found that you can get connector replacements but the vocabulary for what they are called and getting the right ones seems all over the place. Does anyone have a reliable source and/or method for replacing these connectors that the switches plug into?

My wire harness itself and fuse box seem intact enough to get many more years of use. I just need to replace where the switches connect at the dash on the wire side. Any advice appreciated. It would also be amazing if I could 3d print my own by that seems like a whole separate conversation.

Has anyone here tried a Saturn overdrive in an original CJ-2A? what's the top speed look like?

my stock jeeps cap out around 55mph, with the engine redlining. I'm wondering if you get more speed out of a saturn overdrive, or if it just helps with the RPM on the engine. Poor thing's only rated for 4,000 rpm.

I'm thinking of taking a 4,000 mile trip, and for that distance it might be worth the 1.2k to buy a new one. though that's close to what i pay for a whole jeep.

Any good LED headlights that look like the originals not a ‘halo’

I’m doing work on my CJ-7, one of the headlights is on its last legs. I have to do some rewiring on it anyway and figured I’d install some LEDs.

I want to upgrade it but have it look closer to stock, as such I want to find original styled headlights. In my opinion the modern halo looking lights don’t really fit the look of my ‘86.

But after looking online a little bit I haven’t been able to find any LED headlight that have the look of the older lights but are still LED.

I’m still relatively new to the hobby and I don’t really know where to look and which brands are best.

This question has probably been asked before, but any help / info would be greatly appreciated!

Got to enjoy my ‘86 CJ-7 with the top off for the last time this year

Snow and rain in the forecast and cold windy for everything else. It’s been a good first year of Jeeping, glad to join the community!

Best sites for advice and parts for a new CJ7 owner?

I inherited a 1984 CJ7 from my late father and am just looking for advice/resources that yall recommend for beginners. I did a few repairs on it with my dad years back but otherwise I know very little about the Jeep or any vehicle repairs really. I'd like to clean it up some because I have many memories with him and this Jeep. It does run but has quite a few projects that need attention. I've learned how to do some of the easier cosmetic repairs, but would like to learn more about the engine and doing more serious repairs.

So I guess my question is, are there any sites yall recommend for repairs and advice? I joined a few subreddits and have found some blogs, but I feel there must be some that are better resources than others. Also, best sites for parts? Have ordered from a couple of places but quality seems to vary. Thanks!

Carb Adjust

“An adjustable part throttle screw is used in the float bowl to aid in the refinement of fuel mixtures for good emission control. This screw is pre-set at the factory and a plug is installed to prevent tampering and to seal against any fuel leaks. The plug should not be removed nor the screw adjusted in service.”

OK, this is from the four-cylinder in my CJ 5 “Iron Duke“. If the throttle calibration screw is factory adjusted and capped. How does one adjust the idle speed in a varijet 2?

Iron Duke Fuel Pump

Just replace the fuel pump they said. It would be fun they said.

I feel like I was really close with that last tantrum. How the hell am I supposed to get this fuel pump out with the motor mount in the way? Is it as simple as turning the motor over until the cam is out of the way?

Ignition System Question.

Same jeep of questionable provenance.

New question. Wires are questionable at best beneath the hood. This is the 1982 with the IronDuke. And there is not a standalone starter solenoid to be found under there. Does the attached/linked starter not require a separate starter solenoid? It seems like all other models with different engines have them.

This is the replacement Starter.

Also. What’s the best manual to buy/download? I’ve found scans of the Hanes manual but no concise wiring diagrams of my year with the 4cyl. And there aren’t lots of photos of the engine bay w that set up on the internet.

Thanks in advance.
