I've looked at the bike lanes map and although a route from the end of the trail to my work on Hollis has quite a few bike lanes, there are spots where I'll have to drive on the street. Basically I'm looking to try to avoid a pile of traffic time next spring by getting on the trail near Sheldrake Lake and biking into work.
I'm not a fan of driving on the street.
What would people consider the "safest" route from the end of the trail to my work? Say, lightest side streets connecting to the bike lanes/shared pathways.

Hi! My bike was just stolen last night from the sidewalk where it was locked to a sign post. Please please if anyone around spots it I would appreciate if you let me know!
Family is harassing me to move to the HRM. I was there is weekend, and saw a few people riding.
Are group rides a thing? Shop sponsored or otherwise

This is my daily means of transportation for work and to get my toddler to and from daycare. Any information, support or help from the community in getting it recovered would be greatly appreciated. The battery was nearly full so it would likely only be running low now depending on how often it's being used.
*Note: I did file a police report the day it was stolen. However, an officer has yet to be assigned to the file and the video surveillance of the bike being stolen has yet to be collected or viewed by the police.
Does anyone know of any bike shops that might rent a bike for longer period of time? Even on the dl perhaps.. 🤭Staying in Halifax a little over a month and would love to be able to bike around
Would anyone mind sharing their strava file for the Peggy’s cove loop? I would be so thankful.
Thanks in advance!
Is there a bike shop or anywhere in Halifax that can paint my bike? Anywhere between Antigonish - Halifax really. I've been considering it for awhile but I don't even know if there's any places around that offer this. Any other info is appreciated - how complex a paint job can be done, price range, time for it to be done.

Hello! Does anyone know where I can purchase cargo e-bikes or enclosed trailers that attach to e-bikes (long enough to fit a adult sized shovel)?
Preferably in Atlantic Canada, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are no companies that make those here.. so I'd also be willing to have it shipped here-with a preference that it's close to Atlantic Canada.
I'm playing with the idea of starting a gardening business with a cargo bike (I was born and raised in Halifax but live a bit more rural now- still in NS- where this business seems a bit more possible.)
Hi fellow Haligonians!,
As part of the Climate Futures Lab program, led by Youth Challenge International, we have created a survey targeting HRM youth (<25 years old) about climate engagement. Filling out the survey takes less than 10 minutes and your input will help our team design climate education programming and tailor it to our community!

Thanks a lot!
Very new to cycling, got my road bike not so long ago and admittedly, biking in traffic is something I have no experience with and kinda freaks me out a little. I drive a car and watched plenty of videos on safe road cycling habits (thanks GCN), so I believe it's just a matter of gaining some experience before I get more comfortable on the roads.
I'd also like to start commuting on my bike, but a part on my commute would be through Waverley road. I came across plenty cyclists on that road in the past, but never during rush hour in the mornings, and that road doesn't really feel safe or cycling friendly to begin with.
I'm not sure if it's worth risking the commute just so I can say I use my bike to go to work, but on the other hand I'd hate to miss out on the joy and health benefits of commuting cause of the fear of a possible accident.
Any insight would be helpful, thanks
Hi everyone, are there any bike rental/bike shares in Halifax? (with downtown or so)
Not sure how many law enforcement officers are carrying a tape measure for phrenological sports equipment validation but maybe if you forget your helmet this could get you out of a tough spot.
I recently swapped my bike's handlebars for an aero handlebar. However, my bell from my old bars no longer fits. Most of my riding is on roads outside of the city, but I do feel like an ass the odd time I find myself on a trail or in a bike lane. I still attempt to yell or something to get people's attention, but I think it can startle people and I don't think anyone's first instinct is that I am on a bike lol
Wondering if anyone has recommendations for where I could pick up a bell for Aero Bars??
I lost my bike from my apartment in Quinn Street today. Gray color with blue highlight.Serial Number - cm21a511691Please help me!

Hi everyone, new member to the community and my first post here. I use a wheelchair and have a hand-cycle attachment for the front of it. I'm wondering if anyone has ideas for a medium to long distance paved path in HRM that I could use for training. Ideally it would be +10km but shorter would still be suitable as long as it is not very crowded or on public roads. I am familiar with the Saltwater Marsh but would love to find something that is asphalt so that I can ride with maximum efficiency and not get stuck spinning my tires trying to get up loose hills.
Alternatively, if anyone is familiar with something similar in the valley I would absolutely love to hear about it! I have searched high and low but have not managed to find anything suitable as of yet. The reason I don't ride much on public roads is due to distracted drivers and the likelihood of me being hit by a vehicle, especially on the roads where cyclists are less of a frequent sight. Thanks in advance!
I'm planning to bike from Halifax (peninsula) to Truro later this summer. Does anyone have an opinion on the best route to take? I don't mind adding a little distance if it makes the route nicer.
We have a cottage up past Wentworth. A friend and I are going to ride our bikes up there from Halifax. Our plan is to split it up with an overnight in Truro.
Looking to make some cycling connections in my area. Seems to be some action on strava.
Completely unrelated question: has anybody biked the rail trail from Lunenburg to Yarmouth?
Hi everyone, I am visiting Halifax later this week and am looking for recommendations of a scenic ride of around 50km for Saturday morning. I mostly ride gravel and xc mtb trails at home and would like a scenic gravel ride, but think a road ride might be the best plan to cover some distance and see the coast while there.
Looking at some maps I'm thinking of doing the Sambro Loop, taking Old Sambro road out of Halifax and coming back up along the coast on Ketch Harbour. Is this a popular route for cyclists? Is there a bit of a shoulder to ride on these roads or will I be right on the lane with traffic? Will there be much car traffic early Saturday morning? Are there any gravel alternative routes you'd recommend?
Any other route recommendations with more gravel?
Also looking for recommendations for bike rentals in the city, is there anywhere else to go aside from I Heart Bikes at the waterfront?
Thanks for any help and suggestions!
Getting a little tired of this, thinking about making calls... anyone able to reflect on this process?
😬 flex posts

EDIT: Cyclesmith came through with the right part!
I'm hoping someone might be able to help me source a part locally. My Schwinn 230 exercise started getting stiff, so I took it apart to grease it and discovered the bearing retainer on one side had completely disintegrated. I've removed and cleaned the one from the other side to measure it; it's 45mm exterior, 35mm interior, with 8mm bearings. Photo below.
I've looked at Cyclesmith's online shop and they don't seem to have this size. None of the exercise shop places I can see in town seem to service Schwinn machines. It is available online but will be close to a month to get here. Anyone who has other ideas, would be appreciated.
Cole Harbour Parks and Trails Association (CHPTA) is at a difficult decision point regarding the Shearwater Flyer Trail
CHPTA would like to take this opportunity to communicate a decision we have made regarding the Shearwater Flyer and provide our reasons for this decision.
The Shearwater Flyer Trail is also part of the Halifax Municipality’s Active Transportation Network, being a key link in connecting communities.
Since 1998, CHPTA has maintained the 8.5 kilometers of trail in spite of the work and expense required to keep trail safe and has escalated beyond normal trail maintenance. The work involves repairing damage to the trail sides and surface, parking areas, cleanup of garbage on the trail and parking lots, bridge inspections and repairs to the bridges, identifying water incursions, signage, volunteer trail steward patrols, identifying critical habitat, and post storm cleanup of fallen and dangerous trees.
Additionally, CHPTA has spent considerable time and money to protect adjacent wetlands from damage caused by ATVs and dirt bikes.
CHPTA believes a change is required to ensure the safety of non motorized users. ATVs and dirt bikes need to be prohibited from using the Shearwater Flyer Trail. The damage from these vehicles exceeds the work capacity of CHPTA’s volunteers and the funding provided. Additionally, CHPTA’s mission and philosophy is to enable the quiet enjoyment of active transportation trails by walkers, rollers and cyclists. The organization’s volunteers are skilled and effective, however, need to focus their energy on keeping trails safe for non motorized users and in keeping with the mission and philosophy of CHPTA.
Since April of 2019 CHPTA has consistently communicated with the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables (DNRR) to remove motorized access from the Shearwater Flyer. A definitive response has yet to be received from the Minister of DNRR. At the Annual General Meeting in 2022 CHPTA members voted to withdraw from the Shearwater Flyer and the CHPTA Board of Directors determined the date to withdraw from the maintenance and care of the Shearwater Flyer to be effective December 31 st , 2022 if motorized access remains or no response is received. CHPTA’s decision to withdraw has been made with reluctance.
CHPTA will continue to maintain and protect the 15.5 kilometers of the Salt Marsh and Cole Heritage Park Trails for the pleasure of all active transportation trail users.
If you have any guidance for the Minister this is your last chance to have your voice heard. You may also wish to advise other elected officials of your guidance.
Please copy chairchpta@gmail.com on any e-mailed guidance. A list of contact information is provided below.
