i live in an apartment in melbourne and on certain days, there's loud music playing past 10pm, sometimes going till 11pm. however im not sure how to deal with it because its coming from someone in a different apartment complex (my bedroom faces the other apartment basically)
im not sure how i can even stop the noise because i cannot tell where it is coming from :( and im so surprised no one else has complained or stopped them
anyway just wondering if anyone knows any way or tips to help with this ;u; i've tried to look past it and ignore it especially if i dont need to get up early the next day but either ways its still pretty inconsiderate for anyone else who needs to rest :(
I'm thinking to do laser hair removal for my beard as I need to shave everyday and hurts my skin a lot.
Is it common for guy here to take laser hair removal?
How many times? How much do I need to pay?
Thank you for any advice!
We moved here in January and my partner has made friends with a bunch of guys. They are sporty guys, they play AFL at a senior level and they party a lot.
Here’s the confusing bit. When they try and convince my partner to go out with them, every now and then they send shirt off pic. Sometimes flexing muscles. Sometimes a tongue out. I don’t get if this is a thing? Or they are weird? Or it’s a joke? Or are they just proud of their muscles? My partner doesn’t get it either he usually just thumbs up the pic.
Hi all. Hope everyone is travelling well. This happened 3 years ago and it keeps popping in my mind every now and then. Me and my daughter were a victim of domestic abuse and one afternoon a lovely family drove past and witnessed what happened and brought us to police station. It was around 5:30 in the afternoon. There were 2 police officers and one told me the officer that handles domestic violence is not there and they have to contact him. Me and my daughter waited until 1 in the morning. I feel so sorry for her. And finally the police interviewed us for like 30 minutes and was sent home. He apologised and said I shouldn’t have been treated that way. Was it normal? Were we treated poorly because we are asians? Just wondering. Thanks for the answers so I can finally move on hahahaha
So the company I worked for (Syd NSW) went into voluntary administration 4 weeks ago and subsequently got bought out. This new comp offered an employment contract to me on Wednesday, which I signed, and are honoring my prev entitlements (long service - if applicable, and annual). If I were to decline the offer, I'd loose all of my entitlements.
During the administration process I've sourced another job with higher income and have been offered an employment contract with them.
Sale of business was finalised Friday so come Monday I'm employed with the new comp.
So my query is:
As far as I can see online and within the new contract, there is nothing that stipulates that I can't resign immediately (Monday), give 4 weeks notice and still receive my annual leave entitlements to be paid out. It's nothing personal of course, it's just business.
(In other news, there are staff within the old company who were terminated and had 10+ years service, and as the company was 14 staff or less, redundancies aren't offered within the Governments FEG scheme).
Its a pretty dirty situation for the peeps laid off to be in, considering how hard they worked for a small business, and in troubling times for so many years to not get their 'just deserts' for going "above and beyond".
Has anyone else been in this situation before?
My nephew is graduating year 10 this year and I don't have kids so I have no idea what sort of celebration / gift protocol is the norm.
Do you give gifts? Throw a party? Card with congratulations? Wait until Year 12 to make a big deal of it?
I don't live local so not sure how best to celebrate it. I've asked his parents but they haven't been helpful.
What do you think is appropriate?
EDIT: Thanks everyone!! Very clear answers and so helpful. I love this community. I feel much better placed about it now.
Just for fun. I’ll go first.
A piece of ham wrapped around a sweet spiced gherkin and kewpie mayo…. Omggggffff.

Guys, I need a hand with this and don’t know much about what to do or where to go. As a hobby, I buy crashed bikes, repair them and then enjoy it. So, at the beginning of this year, I got a Yamaha 2020 unregistered cuz a crash, everything was normal during the inspection and the previous owner even gave me the dealer documents and spare parts. When I was working on it I did notice the VIN number was rubbed off from the chassis and I realised that I might got a stolen bike, went to the police, they did some research and indeed the bike was stolen but recovered, so the bike and the paperwork I have is legit and told me I can register the bike under my name without any issue.
I got an RWC, and the bike was inspected by a VicRoads agent to get it registered and they told me to wait because they had to investigate about it (I provided all the paperwork and the police case saying is all good with the bike). Has been almost a year and I haven’t heard anything back from VicRoads.
I have my bike collecting dust, but I cannot use it because is still unregistered and VicRoads doesn’t give me anything about it. I just only need a plate to register it. What I can do with this?
Context: I was a dependent on my parents gold health insurance until I was 24 and no longer a student. 2 years ago I signed up for private health insurance with same provider under bronze level. I recently found out I was eligible to be on my parents gold cover as a dependent as since 2021 they brought it new rules where you can be a dependent until age 31 and still live at home. Since finding this out I’m annoyed by my health provider not telling me about this. There’s 3 months left until I’m 31 and they said I can go under my parents gold cover but would have to go through the waiting period for gold benefits, I don’t think this is far as the last two years I’ve been paying them and the whole time I could of been under my parents paying nothing yet my parents nor myself were never told. Also they asked if I’ve been a member before upon signing up and they never mentioned it then either . What are my options?
Hey everyone! I’m a 21-year-old from the UK, super excited to be heading out to Australia soon and could really use some advice. I’ll be flying into Melbourne on the 28th of December to start this adventure. I’ll be staying there for about a week with a friend that’s currently living over there (including a 3-day trip along the Great Ocean Road), and after that, I have about 5-6 weeks set aside for traveling up the east coast. My return flight is booked for June 18th, so after exploring, I plan on settling down somewhere for around 5 months before heading back home. Here’s a bit more info about me and my plan: • Budget: I’ve saved about £6,000 for traveling, plus an additional £6,000 for settling down somewhere for the five months after. • Interests: I love adventures, hiking, the gym/running, and music—so I’m keen on exploring Australia’s outdoors and hitting some amazing coastal spots. I can also drive. • Destinations on my list: Sydney, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast (possibly considering this area to settle), Cairns, Whitsundays, Noosa, and Byron Bay.
I’d love any tips or suggestions on the following:
Thanks in advance for any tips or advice! This is my first big trip like this, so any insight would be really helpful.
Hi, I'm from a third world nation and I was planning to study in Aus for quality education while paying tuition fees on my own and have some savings. However, through some online researches, I've come to know most of the Australian universities are just banking international students for money.
What I thought was I would study my bachelors and masters in aus, get some work experience and return to my country and own a startup business in IT. But all of the people in my country who go to Australia just want to get Permanent Residency, and education is just an excuse for them to settle and work there.
Unfortunately, I've done my IELTS already and its been months since I've discussed with parents abt going to AUS (and my dad really wants me to go there asap too cuz my sis also lives there). Maybe its because my dad's getting old now and he could be laid off from his job anytime, so he wants me to at least be settled in a much safer side, i.e., living in Australia.
Fellow Aussies, what do yall suggest me?
Visiting from Hawaii (usa sadly) Besides trying Vegemite and visiting a zoo, to safely see wildlife, what should I not miss? When traveling to different countries what have you missed about home?
P.S. sorry our politics seem to be leaking into your country. Also sorry my country let the orange 🍊 have a second term
Just arrived Adelaide today and only got to know our old made-by-China phone are not supported Optus after we bought their cards. So I have to rush to buy a new phone and Google pixel 8/8a is my first choice. The problem is: is there any stores I can buy it in person? As I am staying in a shared airbnb house with other guests, I don't want to have it to be delivered to me. Anyone can share me any hints? Even shops that sells Android phones that fit with Optus cards can help us. Thanks!
I spend a lot of time in the city and notice that most corporate types are well-dressed in their business suits, day in and day out on Collins Street, etc.
However there is a special time of the year when it seems the weird and poorly fitted suits come out, which is right about now. I don’t want to sound like the fashion police but what I notice are:
Obviously ill-fitting suits, with sleeves too long and sometimes pants not even hemmed.
Fastening both buttons…everyone knows you’re supposed to leave the last one undone.
Formal suits with informal footwear or vice versa, wearing the wrong kind of shoes with the wrong kind of pants.
Leaving the labels on (!!!)
Not removing the string on the vents (!!!)
I don’t know much about accessories and I won’t comment on that. I just want to know why people ‘dress up’ for racing events without even bothering to get their suit tailored. It’s bizarre and it only happens at this time.
Have y’all seen the tiktoks abt a serial killer in Byron bay killing 67 ppl? How is the killer still not found ???
I mean it would makes life much easier
I'm really not finding it that expensive at all. Not cheap but not expensive either.
A smoothie at a chain is $10.50 aud, at the same chain in Vietnam it's equivalent to $4.80 aud and in new York it's equivalent of $17 aud, Bangkok it's $6.90.
Burger and fries is pretty much the same difference here.
I was expecting Switzerland type prices but for all the talk of high prices they seem average
They found that many (not most) luxury condominiums and mansions owned by foreign investors from China were caught in loads of dirty money laundering etc
I've tried several run of the mill options and none seemed to work. It got to expensive trying out one brand after another. What mould sprays you found to actually work on tough mould including black mould? Thanks in advance!
I can’t even mow the lawns without the need to swat flys away every 3 seconds. How do aussies live with these pesky shits?
Editing in to say: sweet jesus, so many of you can't spot the joke.
As rent and cost of living has increased, how the hell do I - a 26 year old living in Sydney move out of home and sustain a living? Even a full time income isn’t enough. Most of my income will go to rent and then I’d be barely surviving and working my life away just to make ends meet. How are you millennials/gen z surviving out here? Or are you living at home like I am. I moved out around 2020 and had to move back home because of this issue. I’m getting desperate at this point, I can’t be around my family for any more than a year, I’m feeling like I need to move on and live my own life. Feeling a bit stuck right now. Would appreciate some advice. Thank you.
Here's an awkward choice:
A) China invades Australia because of its resources and and great lifestyle.
B) China says: We know all about your beaches and wines and weather and stuff but there's nothing there we really want.
China is capable of either but which one would distress you more?
