What do you think about adopting Schuko European sockets with grounding in Vietnam? Will this solve the problem of unsafely connecting electrical appliances with Schuko plug that require grounding to ungrounded sockets?

https://preview.redd.it/ozsa2uuyuvfb1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=d861087ae6a824f16bb2d3b2ced8c4cc69eb098f

In many European countries, Schuko sockets with grounding have been used for a long time and due to their design features, namely, the recess, they are considered safe in that it is impossible to accidentally touch the metal pin with your finger. What do you think about adopting Schuko sockets in Vietnam? If similar sockets are introduced all over Vietnam, will it be completely unnecessary to have 2 different types of US and EU plugs and instead have only a European one, especially when traveling to European countries?

Recording vocals on the road in SE Asia

Hello!

I could really use some assistance here — I have a pretty random question for y’all. It’s both really specific and also incredibly general. I’m having a lot of trouble with it.

My buddy and I are very close to being finished with recording our first album, and the only thing left is my vocals. I’m the reason why it isn’t done yet… I’m the bottleneck!

So I need to get them recorded. The only problem is, I am currently on the road and traveling through SE Asia, until end of September.

I am in Chiang Mai, and about to fly to Kuala Lumpur for a week. After that, it’s wide open. Although I did consider coming back to Thailand after that.

So here’s my question:

Does anyone have ideas for a cool city/hotel/guest house, etc. that meets the following criteria:

  1. Quiet (recording vocals)

  2. Quiet for others (prefer standalone property, or at least a chill apartment/hotel with thick walls… really don’t want to worry about disturbing ppl)

  3. In a place that is at least modestly walkable, with some good restaurants, etc nearby.

If someone knows of a city/area with a lot of places like this… or even a specific place to stay. Anything would be helpful.

Here are some other factors:

  1. I’m traveling with my girlfriend, so we will need either a place with two rooms, or a place where we can rent two rooms, or two places close by.

  2. Budget — I’m not made of money, but we’re not staying in hostels either. One step above that. That being said, I’ve saved some money to finish this album and I’m willing to invest a little more to get a quality creative space where I can feel free to work.

  3. I have my equipment with me. It’s very minimal, but sufficient.

  4. The work will probably take me about two weeks to complete. Everything but vocals I can do from pretty much anywhere.

I’m looking for ANYTHING. If anyone has any ideas for good cities in SE Asia… or even any hints or helpful suggestions for me… I’m all ears. Nothing but ears.

Nothing but ears.

Living in SE Asia forever

Random idea, but does anyone know if it is feasibly possible to live constantly in SE Asia as a UK citizen, travelling around for visas as required, say between Thai, Camb, Viet, Laos, and just going round in a loop as needed for re-entry visas? Or is there a simpler way, of maybe staying in just one or two places full time but doing border runs?

Is “Invest Islands” trying to sell a scam?

I was in Bali last month and came across real estate company that advertises to sell land and property in Indonesia (Lombok and Sumba Islands) for 100% foreign ownership through forming a PT PMA. The website looks professionally and they provide a lot of info. regarding their properties and setup. Not to mention other platforms which they market their product. However, as far as I know, the Indonesian government strictly forbids foreigners from owning property in Indonesia. Therefore, is this company legitimate or is it a scam?

Rabies and JE vaccinations for 6month trip?

Hi everyone! I'm going to a 6month trip fto southeast asia and was wondering what the risk of Rabies and Japanese Encephalitis is. If you've been to a similar Itinerary did you do those before leaving?

I hear many people saying "don't bother", others saying the opposite - my doctor is just saying it's a low risk and it's up to me.

Before I decide, have you heard of anyone that ever got either? What are the chances? I've listed below draft list of places I'll be staying in.

Japan: most of the main cities, 5day hike in Kumano kodo, some smaller hot spring towns, 2 days in a rural village homestay

Philippines: Leyte near Tacloban, Bohol, Siquijor, Dumaguette, Moalboal, Cebu

Malaysia: KL, Langawi, Georgetown and volunteering in a farm for 2 weeks. Also a bit of Indonesia (few days Bukit Lawang Orangutan Trekking)

North Laos (possibly including the Gibbon experience)

Vietnam: not sure of all places yet

Sports corruption - Philippine chess - Is it common for politicians or sports officials to be convicted of crimes 1 day and then elected to office the next day?

I posted about Pichay last year - the corrupt politician & sports politician Prospero Pichay Jr was convicted of graft in 2022Jun but re-elected as president of the Philippine chess federation (NCFP) in 2022Jul.

  1. How can Pichay be president of the Philippine chess federation and sentenced to imprisonment re conviction of graft?
  2. Re-elected corrupt chess president Pichay had lied using 9LX WC Wesley So in 2017. (pt2)

But I didn't ask quite so explicitly :

Question 1 - Is it 1 of those common things in the Philippines (or 3rd world / developing Asian countries?) where politicians commit crimes but then get away with it?

JurijFedorov told me like a few weeks before I found out about the re-election, albeit after the re-election happened :

Prospero Pichay Jr.? He’s a powerful politician he steals everything not nailed down. He doesn’t know the word jail. The guy can bribe his way out of this stuff.

(i.e. JurijFedorov is a prophet assuming e didn't know about the re-election ... or is typical properly well-informed person re politics ... also Jurij Fedorov is obviously not a Philippine named while Nic Bentulan is so don't judge me please)

Question 2 - Or maybe it's a common thing on Earth just like much more so in the Philippines (or 3rd world / developing Asian countries?) compared to elsewhere?

Southeast Asia itinerary advice

Looking to travel to SE Asia for about a month and half around October/November from Seattle. I’m wanting to travel to Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos but having trouble trying to come up with travel, where to fly into, and routes. Has anyone ever done all 4 countries? What’s the best route? Thank you in advance.

Cryosurgery in SEA?

I’m looking for cryo- surgery for my foot somewhere in Southeast Asia. It looks like Thailand doesn’t have it. I’m guessing Singapore would be a great place and also it would be super expensive. So outside of Singapore anybody know where I can get cryosurgery (not cryotherapy) in Southeast Asia? TIA

Covering the bellybutton on photos

So, I’ve watched some posts of different bodybuilders/fitness influencers from Malaysia and Indonesia but I’ve always wondered, what’s the reason behind covering up the belly button?

I’ve seen it either with an emoji, blacked out or simply by wearing pants above it.

Is there a cultural reason to do this?

[US-WTB] Suzume no Tojimari SF Cinema Collectibles

Hey this is probably a longshot but if anyone knows of a subreddit or has the promo collectibles for the movie Suzume no Tojimari by Makoto Shinkai from SF Cinemas I'm desperately looking for a way to buy off of someone who went.

I am looking for the collectible ticket and poster and willing to pay from the United States. If someone has the Notebook collectible too I'd love all 3 but the ticket and the poster are what I really want.

Also if anyone has advice on any Discords or other marketplaces to search on please send any details.

Private Housing Societies in all countries should help governments in making water reservoirs and Governments should also focus more on this water shortage issues.

Construction of Water Reservoir for Gulberg Rawalpindi-Pakistan by my father (Civil Engineer-Retired SE from Punjab Irrigation Department, Pakistan) to help overcome water shortage issues in Gulberg Rawalpindi Pakistan

Some updates about the project which is now in finishing stage:

*Gulberg Water Reservoir/Dam Construction Update:*

This water reservoir is being constructed in Gulberg Rawalpindi which will produce estimated 10 million gallons of water per day for Gulberg.
Where as, as per estimation Gulberg only requires 8.5 million gallons per day

Also, Gulberg has 27 water tube wells, from which many are dried up due to low water levels.
After construction of this dam, it will also re activate all 27 tube wells as water level will increase thereby increasing the daily production of water gallons to 15-16 million gallons.

There is also water filtration and water treatment plant, as Gulberg plans to make mineral water and sell bottled mineral water.

And lastly, the commercial plots planned on dam front -water front high rise commercials.

Lake view parks, jogging tracks etc which are Good addition for community and beneficial for society management.

Private Housing Societies in all countries should help governments in making water reservoirs and Governments should also focus more on this water shortage issues.

What color is generally used in your country/region for the wedding dress?

It's all in the title, i just wanted to know if there were any regional changes.

I'm trying to collect data, so I would choose "generally" and not the "every once in a while", although it might be interesting (if so, please specify)

Available women's shoe sizes in SEA

Hey everyone!

I'm going to spend around 5 months in southeast Asia (I don't know the exact countries yet, but I'll start in Vietnam and then Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia are on the list of much liked options). I want to buy sandals for that time but living in a place where i can wear sneakers even in the summer, i haven't owned sandals in over a decade and have no clue what's going to be comfortable in the long run, or what even is good enough quality to endure all the walking I'll do. So i was wondering how difficult it would be to buy new ones over there if needed, given the fact that I'm on the bigger side of shoe sizes for women, even here in Europe. I wear a size 42 EU (please convert to whatever local sizing system you're familiar with), which i assume isn't common at all among women in SEA. Does anyone on here happen to know how difficult this makes it for me to find sandals there? I'm not planning to spend too much time in touristic areas but i assume I'll be able to get there in case that makes it easier due to western tourist oriented places maybe.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Edit: I won't be picky about what they look like so even if the selection is very small, that's completely fine. As long as i find something that fits me, I've got all i need :)

Is the Banana Pancake Trail still a thing?

Explainer: https://sonasia-holiday.com/sonabee/banana-pancake-trail-southeast-asia-backpacking-route

I went to Penang over the last weekend and was a bit surprised to see so few backpackers. Made me think. I used to do the whole south East Asia on a shoestring thing. Are people still doing this today?

How many High Speed Rail network project currently under construction or planned to be constructed in South East Asia

I know of Bandung-Jakarta HSR to be operational next year in Indonesia, then there's the Bangkok-Nong Khai line Thailand to be completed by 2028. What other HSR projects are slated in these two countries and what other HSR networks currently going construction in other parts of SE asia. Would be helpful if you can share links ( wiki, news media) about those projects. Thank you

people in the Philippines, how much carryover exists between the many regional languages there?

It's fairly well known that there exists like 150+ regional languages across the Philippines. How much linguistic carryover is there between them?

Here in the US at colleges they really only offer strictly Tagalog since it's considered the national language. But I've been wondering if that's a disservice since there are so many.

Should I treat Tagalog as like, a base language? Or are they distinct enough that they should be developed as stand alone lessons? Or maybe it depends on the regional language, or a combo? Idk I'm rambling now so hopefully I made some sense in my inquiry.

Would you guys know where I could find information about if a nose-to-ear chain is cultural appropriation or not?

Hey everyone! I'm a white latina from Brazil and recently my brother and I have been wondering if it would be okay for me to wear a plain nose-to-ear chain. I've been looking around the internet but I haven't found anything conclusive! I found this subReddit and thought you guys might have more info. Would any of you know of somewhere I could find info about this specific article (and please correct me if I'm wrong in assuming it comes from South Asian culture)? Or is there anywhere I could ask South Asian people about this, somewhere there are people who would be okay talking about this and would feel comfortable engaging in this conversation? Thanks so much, guys, I appreciate your time! Um abraço! :)
