Hello, I’m a first time GALS owner, I have done a lot of research before buying my first snail, etc. for some reason, my Marshmallow doesn’t like eating on his own, I have to pick him up to feed him. His enclosure is literally perfect, lots of coir soil, humidity is good, heat mat, etc, etc. but he just won’t eat on his own unless prompted, he’s a juvie snail, can someone tell me if this is normal?? He otherwise sleeps all day 😭 I’m very worried
Hi! I found this guy on my back porch. Yes, he is dead. No idea what kind of snail he could be, any ideas? Also, how do I preserve a dead snail?
I'm not sure if this is the right community to post this.
I took this pic a few years ago on a hike in Tennessee! Is this a Helix pomatia?
Checked up on snails and one of the critters has retracted deeply into their shell along with forming a white speck on their back. They have moss and are misted 1-2 times a day based on visual level of moistness and get mealworms every other week with a cuttlebone present in the tank, very young and very small. I've replaced the old cuttlebone in case it was a calcium issue, but any tips/advice on what to do would be a huge help! Wanna give this pal the world.
My snails need help!! I’m desperate—they all seem to be dying, and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong 😭😭😭
For context, I shared as much information as I could in two previous posts (link 1 and link 2). In short, everything seemed fine until yesterday, when I noticed one snail looking very sick, while the others still seemed okay. But early today, a second one started showing the same symptoms, and now a third is showing the initial signs. Are they all going to die?? I’m so worried—please help!!
Here it is, my third sick snail with a prominent snenis and eyes turning to his back
Hello! I have many snails, some like mealworms and some hate it. I was reading on here that snails go crazy for bloodworm so I will give it a try. I am looking on Amazon and see a lot of them are called "freeze dried bloodworms" -- are these ok for snails? What should I avoid? Thank you
I'm a weird one for sure. I frggin love, I mean truly love snails but I'm literally scared of slugs. I know, I know...it's totally ridiculous. Such an irrational fear to say the least but somehow Without the shell I just can't accept them. Lmfao @ myself because I realize how asinine this appears. That being said, how friends do I change this??? All suggestions will be taken seriously.
Hi! I rescued a garden snail with a broken shell a few weeks ago. While they were healing I kept them in a small container but now want to set them up a home. Could anyone give me some tips on what to include? I have no idea and I want to make Nail as comfy as possible. Also - they don't seem to like dried mealworms? What are the best sources of protein? Thanks! :)
So i just bought new substrate for my snail, I only had a little bit of the old one (coconut fiber) and it was very little so I bought orchid substrate to freshen up my tank and to make a mix ( I need to buy other) but now I damped a lot of it on the tank and then I read the information and it says it's fertilized with osmocote :( now my old substrate is contained and I have none to put on him. Do you think osmocote is harmful to snails?
Thanks in advance here's a Pic of my handsome boy
Do my snails look healthy? For some context, I’m very new to snail keeping. My mom received some escargots from a classmate in her gastronomy course; they were farmed for food, and she planned to eat them. But they’re SO cute that she couldn’t bring herself to do it! She got attached, and so did I (in fact, I kind of stole them from her). They’ve been my pets for a little over a week now. I can’t tell them apart yet, but I’m already so attached—they’re such adorable, curious creatures!
Initially, they were in a somewhat precarious setup at my mom’s house, but we moved them to a larger plastic container with proper substrate, and they seemed to thrive. Soon after, I bought an even larger glass terrarium. But since moving them there, they’ve become quieter and are eating less. The enclosure change happened to coincide with cooler weather here in Brazil, so I assumed that was the cause. In fact, yesterday was the first warmer day since the move, and they seemed pretty happy.
With one sad exception, which I posted about here for advice (https://www.reddit.com/r/snails/comments/1gguw3x/whats_wrong_with_my_snail/). That little guy is still alive (I think, I'm not even sure), but still unresponsive, and I’m feeling pretty hopeless at this point. Since this incident, I’ve been so worried about my snails’ well-being that I’ve even dreamed about it. I’m traveling tomorrow night and leaving their care to my husband, so I’m feeling even more concerned and powerless about my babies’ health.
What is this white bump near his foot? It's normal? Don't look like a place for a snenis.
Do I look like a healthy happy snail?
This is a healthy snail, right?
Is normal for them to sleep enclosed in their slime? Or this is a stress sign?
I’m getting a 2.2 gallon tank for grove snails and I was curious how many snails I can put in safely? Thank you in advance
