Bob looks so delicate these days. He acts cowardly and very shy, which I'm not used to at all because he was never shy about contact. If there is no problem with the shell, what else could be the cause?
A friend of mine and I are raising snails and we need some tips that could help us. pls
What's this white thing coming out of my snail? Is this a mantle collapse? Why's it so puffed up??
Hey guys, I have 3 baby GALs seeking a new home. My two were getting freaky and turns out i missed some eggs in a sweep of the tank. They're a little bigger than the image now but all look to be healthy and pretty active. If you're UK based and looking a GAL please DM me 😊
Accidentally woke my one snail up from hibernation i always find her to show her there is fresh food in the tank and she was covered in substrate so i washed her off and her head poked out of her shell and i noticed that film stuff they seal themselves in to hibernate 😕 if i had seen that i would have left her be but it was covered in dirt. Will she be okay? Or have i just done a lot of damage to my girl
Brownie woke up from her two day sleep and is eating an apple!
Hey ! I picked up these 4 yesterday and I wondered if you could just double check what type of Giant African land snails they are as they weren’t labelled at the place I got them and I want to make sure the temps and humidity are right for the species . I’m assuming Fulica , but as the care changes for them all I wanted to double check
It does look like my girls were/are hibernating and i can’t find anything off with the tank stats. So i was wondering if the earlier sunsets of the winter month trigger a hibernation instinct?
Hello!
I'm a new owner of a Giant African Snail (about 4 months old), and even though I researched as much as possible about GALS, I found out about runts only after I got my own. But of course, I am a new owner and before I make any decisions (culling), I'd like to get the opinion of more experienced owners.
I've had him for less than 2 weeks now, he doesn't eat much, doesn't want to touch the protein he gets once a week (which has only been once since I've had him for such a short time but yeah), is constantly sleeping and has hibernated once, which I solved by putting him in warm water. It did wake him but then I found out that it's not exactly good for them, so I guess I know now. Originally I thought that he hibernated because it was too cold (20° - 21°C), so right now he's at 22°- 23°C, with his humidity being at 75 - 80%, and he hasn't hibernated since, but as I said, he's not too active and doesn't each much. I had no idea about the process of culling, so naturally, I wasn't exactly looking if the owner I got him from did go through the process (most likely not since they don't have much experience breeding, just an accidental egg clutch).
I apologize if the photos aren't clear enough and I'm grateful for any advice.
Update: Hopefully the photos will show up this time.
I saw some posts with guides and tips but it seems to be more focused on adults, I just randomly got a baby and I'm a bit nervous. I never cared for a snail before so is there a baby guide? This is his provisory enclosure, I left some water in to avoid keeping things dry but I'll also try to spray some water in. Should I worry about feeding it if he has this big leaf?
I'm really lost and worried, this guy spend at least 2 days inside a refrigerator and I'm really worried about anything possibly going wrong, since I'm not sure how healthy he is.
For reference I'm from Brazil, we're in spring and the temperature in here floats between 25°-35° Celsius, idk if that's important to know or not.
Hey there! I’m personally not interested in getting pet snails, however my boyfriend is. Him and his mom have been wanting them for the past few years (so I’ve heard) but they have never been able to figure out where they would find the snails them self. I live in Canada (Ontario, to be more specific) so if any Canadian snail owners can help be out that would be great!:)
Context: I have a large fish tank right now with just one large Oscar. I’m really wanting a snail to go in there but it has to be large and be ok to just have one. After some research I found out that surprisingly Oscar’s won’t eat or even try to eat larger snails. I have looked at some websites but all I can find are maybe apple snails most likely mystery snails. I live in central Illinois but would be willing to travel a few hours. Any advice or help would be great! Thanks in advance
The tiniest of GALS
Hello snail friends,
I currently have one cornu aspersum in a 2.5 gal acrylic terrarium.
I've noticed my snail tends to poop in hard to clean places (particularly on pieces of cork bark and in his burrow underneath the substrate)
Would the usual spot cleaning regiment be good enough to keep his enclosure clean? It's very hard for me to see his poop when it's in the substrate. I'm nervous I won't be able to keep his tank clean without a clean up crew...
Is his terrarium too small for an isopod community? I'm kind of nervous to introduce isopods or springtails, as I've heard they can overrun the enclosure very easily.
Any advice or recommendations are appreciated!
I was recommended to come her by r/terrarium
With the holidays coming up I am looking for a get a gift for my girlfriend. She has a small apartment and a cat. She has expressed a desire to get a small terrarium for keeping her cat occupied and my current roommate has a jar where he is raising snails.
From my own preliminary research and observation of the jar snails are low maintenance. But I want to make sure the snails are healthy and happy.
I am hoping to get some advice on what I should fill the terrarium with, what kind of snails I should get and what kind of terrarium is recommended.
Thank you
I recently found some bladder snails in my 10g planted tank. I'm fine with them being there, but I just made this little jararium with cuttings from some of my aquarium plants (java fern and scarlet temple). I think the jar is 1 litre - it's a Bick's pickle jar, and you can see my hand for scale. The water is still silty from adding the sand, as I just planted the jar today. After the water is clear and the plants are established, could I add a few bladder snails, or is this too small for them? If it is too small, I'll leave them in my shrimp tank, at least until I build another jararium in a much larger jar that I have.
As mentioned in the title, I have one mature amber snail that I couldn’t take care of while I was gone for thanksgiving. I gave him to my dad to take care of for me, and I suppose he had laid eggs that I didn’t notice before (probably on the underside of one of his rock/hill things, since the soil is dark and my lighting is terrible).
I came home and got my tank back quite literally 45 minutes ago, and as I was adding some new feed and spraying them down, I noticed a smaller snail on the lid of the tank. I’ve looked closer, and so far, I’ve counted 3 new snails in the tank.
The tank is big enough to support a few more snails so I’m not worried about taking care of them, but I do want to ask for better ways to identify and humanely euthanize/dispose of snail eggs in the future.
Before, I had been scouring the walls and lid for the eggs, but since I didn’t notice any, it’s clear that they were probably somewhere on the soil or something. Any common spots I should look out for when trying to find eggs in the future?
Another question-while I don’t intend on euthanizing any snail that’s already hatched, I do want to about humane ways to get rid of snail eggs rather than just…throw them outside or flush them down the drain or something of the sorts. Any tips are appreciated.
I was washing vegetables to feed my pet rabbit like usual, and I noticed this little guy!! He spent the past days in my refrigerator's drawer, what can I do to help him and keep him well? I really want to see this tiny fella thriving ^^
I set up an "eternal" terrarium and it ended up having some snails inside it. Now I want to make their own terrarium for them using a container that is in my house. They told me to put them back where I found them, but I found them in my mother's onion container, because I used their fertilizer.
New tat today
