I see a lot of discussion re: one's ability to remain digitally anonymous or unsurveillable, etc., and I'm interested in doing what I can, but: 1) ultimately, it doesn't seem like anything is 100% secure, and 2) I'm the first to admit I'm tech disabled. My brain simply doesn't work that way and it's unabsorbable. It is what it is, so I'll do what I can and hope for the best, BUT...

I see no discussion at all about alternative analog forms of communication, so maybe that can happen here, for those of us less techie inclined, but also for the potential scenario where digital access has been revoked, or is straight-up shut down. If we need to fall back on it entirely, it seems stupid to wait till that moment to figure it out. I feel like we should be using it locally alongside digital and figuring out ways to connect with other localities (the good ol' US PO likely won't be an option).

What are your ideas/thoughts on this? We could possibly draw on pre-digital tech/methods, but surely we'd still need to rethink that in a way that integrates our current digitally-focused minds/skills/etc. What could work for what sort of communication, and how can it be optimized? I'm disgusted by leaders of America's tech companies turning into Trump sycophants. I don't want them having my data going forward. I'm in the process of getting rid of all Meta platforms, soon I will drop Google mail and calendars and switch to the Swiss run platform Proton Mail.

My next target is Android run products such as phones and tablets. I'm debating on Apple VS Android. I know Apple's CEO has supported Trump personally, but the organization hasn't dropped DEI departments and donations to Trump haven't come from the company itself. Would Apple be a better choice to give my money to? If not, then do y'all have any suggestions?

I'd also like to move away from supporting Amazon, but that feels much more overwhelming so any suggestions for alternatives would be appreciated.

I'm an avid reader and audiobook fan, and while public libraries can fill some of my needs, many don't offer self published e-books which means I can't get progression fantasy novels or lit-rpgs from them. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

Any advice or resources on antifascist teaching practices/examples? Especially when there are students who are cops, military, aspiring to border patrol in your classes? Most students are from immigrant Trumpland and are usually learning stuff from feminist, ethnic studies, etc perspectives for the first time.

Not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this, but here goes

I was recently thinking about all this bullshit happening in America, and I had the idea of organizing with my friends and doing a little bit of activism, nothing crazy, just spreading around flyers about what to do when interacting with ICE. For context, a lot of these people are around my age, 17-19, and a lot of them are minorities which will specifically be targeted, or probably know a lot of people in these minorities. A lot of trans people, especially.

So, I present this idea to them, and for further context they’ve talked about far, far crazier stuff than flyers before, albeit ironically, and just general social change. And they have this weirdly strong negative reaction to the whole thing, basically shut the idea down completely. You know, jobs and schools and stuff like that. And I understand the fear, I really do, but I would think fear would be a better motivator.

It’s made me realize something: the vast majority of people, including most of the people here I imagine (no offense), would rather imagine themselves as “the revolutionary” than actually participate in anything of the sort. You see it all over, from Tik Tok to Twitter to Reddit; people posting about social change, protests and things of the sort, only to shut down and talk about “oh but we have school and jobs” once someone actually asks why they aren’t out doing these things instead of posting about imagining doing these things, as if they weren’t just pretending that those things didn’t matter in the face of social upheaval.

I think the average American Leftist is extremely neutered when it comes to social change. Whether it be from the era of Obama, or well before that, the average American has been taught not to protest or partake in acts even a little bit against the system. They imagine being part of something bigger, but ultimately lay down and grovel as they’re repeatedly kicked in the ribs.

Countries like Mexico have school-supported youth club for these things for god’s sake, meanwhile we all collectively choose to barely lift a finger while we and our friends and family are actively being attacked.
