Welcome!
Have you ever wanted to get into a band or artist with a massive collection, but had nowhere to start? This sub's purpose is to highlight what people think should be the first thing you hear from them. This is directed to, but not limited to music artists. You can add visual artists, directors, novelists, even genres of music and other forms of art. Any questions on how to start enjoying something are welcome here. This subreddit is not for advice on technical know-how, (e.x., this subreddit is not for learning how to play guitar, programming, learning to cook, etc.)
Rules:
1) Use the searchbar! Unless a post is really outdated, or a new album just came out, people are generally going to have the same opinions on a band.
2) Don't post WDIS questions for learning about how to better your technique in a hobby (ie Sports and instruments). Posts like how to make music using FL Studio and how to learn to program will be removed as well. These posts will be warmly welcomed at /r/IWantToLearn though, so keep that in mind!
3) Upvote albums in the comments that you like. Don't downvote other opinions. This will happen regardless, I know, but please, try not to downvote people just because you think everything after this band's first album was garbage.
4) When making a new post, add the [WDIS] tag to your post, and the artist name. You can add a short blurb about the artist, similar artists, whatever. Suggestions should generally be made in the comments, posts that have suggestions in the title of the text especially are subject to removal. Suggestions should generally not be made in the body of the text. This will not be enforced as heavily, but is strongly discouraged.
5) Suggestions should be generally kept to single albums. Try not to pick super long albums (less than an hour is ideal, though obviously this isn't a hard and fast rule), try to pick things that will be accessible to most people. Maybe highlight specific songs in an album, or if you really can't decide on a single album, list more than one.
6) This subreddit is primarily directed towards music suggestions, but other forms of media are not discouraged. If your post is aimed at other forms of art other than music, putting a relevant tag such as [Director] or [Writer/Author].
7) 'Greatest Hits' albums are discouraged as suggestions. Greatest Hits compilations are kind of the obvious route for people to go, if they don't want to listen to full albums, as such, I would prefer you not use them as a suggestion in this subreddit. However, this is a general rule, and I do know that some bands are simply unable to put together a good album from cover to cover, but have amazing singles. So go ahead and recommend the Greatest Hits if you think it really fits.
8) If you get caught in the spam filter, please message the moderators.

I’m having a hard time thinking right now but I do know I want to get out what I have written in an appropriate area just to kind of release it to the universe. Originally yI was making a post for r/selfesteem and I forgot what I was writing.
Oh my god typing on mobile is so shit this is supposed to be under the post that will now be following this statement. I don’t know what I went there to type but I know it was important and I went in completely knowing what to do and after the first sentence everything completely escaped my mind. I have been having an extremely difficult time understanding what I’m trying to say and how to interpret my emotions and im at a loss for what to do. I have literally felt like a dementia patient the past two days. I remembered something I wanted to say, my grandma took me through the car wash today and it was the first time I’ve been happy this month. That’s why it related to self esteem I haven’t been happy, even more recently I’ve felt completely empty. Typing on mobile is a pain I don’t need feedback I just wanted to release this from my mind. This is the post:
Crying because I don’t deserve what I have
I have been very hollow in emotion the past 3 days and it is was led up to by 2 weeks of a kind of sadness. I have been having trouble thinking straight and after writing the first sentence I can’t remember think what I was thinking before.
I've heard a lot of praise for this band over the years and I've been interested of them and thought about checking out their songs but I don't know where to start. I've only heard Creep (and I LOVE IT) & portions of Karma Police in movies and such. I'm 26 if that helps at all in anyway. The place I 1st heard Creep I believe was the videogame series Rock Band, specifically the 1st Rock Band game when I was a kid. I love the drums a lot as well if that helps at all in anyway. My favorite bands are The Beatles, TwentyOnePilots, Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin. I like and listen to all genres of music but mostly Rock, and all decades going as far back as the 50's. Also, I listen to albums but not as much as I listen to individual songs so I highly reccomend recommending individual songs more than full albums. Hope all this info helps.
I’ve heard good things about Will Wood, and how He’s similar to Tally Hall. does anyone know where to start?
She's a director in the indie film scene. Where's a good place to start with her work? Thanks
They got a shit ton of music, including a lot of stuff that isn't on Apple Music. I'm okay with recommeding an album, compilation, or mix of specfic songs
This might be the wrong place to look, but their discography is huge, and their music has gone through many phases.
Idk if i should ask this here but I'm in between grinding Metallica's discography or Meshuggah's. I've been listening to Metal for a long while now and have explored a lot of Nu Metal and a bit of Alternative Metal so now I wanna branch out to more unique stuff. And the 2 bands I've mentioned have been tickling my brain for a while but idk which one I should focus on first. I heard Meshuggah has Metallica inspiration in some of theirt first records, so should it be Metallica first?
Let me know what u think, and maybe even some metal recs too would be cool.
Hello! My boyfriend is looking for individuals who are serious about starting a band. He is 25 years old and sings. He is looking for a drummer, bassist, guitarist, etc. He is interested in any genre, as he has a very unique voice. He is located in the Northern Kentucky area.
Please reach out via messaging on here, and I will give you his phone number!
I need to make a hole punch with very specific design eg someone's name and a date to make confetti how would I do this?
I have a 3d printer but that's an option I'm aware of but I need this to be metal
Hello all,
My boyfriend is an aspiring musician and is dealing with the frustrations of learning music theory, as well as just playing instruments in general. He’s quickly getting an understanding of drums (which one is which, what sounds good and in tune), but is struggling with the rest of it for the most part. I sent him an interactive chord diagram thingy, so I’m hoping that helps.
Does anyone have any advice on how to make this process a little easier? As well as how to be a supportive significant other because I’m LACKING in that department.
TIA!
I've always been interested in X-Men comics, but it seems so daunting to start. Where do I start? My favorite character is Charles so comics highlighting his abilities and/or story would be great.
I’ve listened to their 2 newest albums The Eternal and Rather Ripped and some singles, though I can’t seem to really get into albums. I liked singles such as Incinerate, Do You Believe In Rapture?, Schizoprenia, Dirty Boots, Disconnection Device.
Hey.I have only listened to toxicity, and i love it, and think it is a 10/10 album. And it got me wondering, where do i go from there?
Help where do i get tixket
I heard that Ray Davis just turned 80, so I wanted to start a Kinks album since they’re notably one of the most underrated 60s bands alongside The Lovin’ Spoonful.
I know a few of the songs that were in some films i’ve seen like The Darjeeling Limited and Juno. And especially the song “Victoria” in the HIMYM episode “The Naked Truth” (where the song that was used in the show was a namesake of Ted’s love interests). I know their well known hit “You Really Got Me”, and their other ones like “Waterloo Sunset”, “Father Christmas” and “Come Dancing” are very underrated.
Thanks!
As the title says, im searching for app that will let me stream music I like, when I want it, and how I what it.
While that's not entirely hard to find these days, I'm looking for something a bit different then the norm ig.
I've used Spotify, YouTube Music, and Pandora. All these are great, but for different reasons. As well as far short in some aspects.
So what is it I want? Well I'll just list off the things I'm looking for: Free to use, streams music, freedom to chose specific songs/Playlist, stream with screen-off.
I'll happily listen to ads in-between songs, I have no issues with that.
Why don't I just pay a subscription to Spotify or something? Because 1, I'm broke, 2 I don't won't to pay anymore subscriptions then I already do.
Pandora let's me stream with me screen off, which is great, but doesn't let me chose what I stream, that kinda defeats the purpose.
Spotify doesn't let me stream what I want, nor with my screen off. The only real cool thing about Spotify is that you can create Playlist.
YT music with the basic/free plan is just regular YT.
Again, I don't know if this is the right sub to post this, so I apologize in advance if it isn't and please direct to the correct one.
Thank you
I only listen to stuff from the Viet Cong album and that is it.

I've came across these kinds of arts and I love the aesthetic. I would love to discover more of these, so WDIS? Is there a name of the genre or keywords that I can search?
I've already listened to Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots and I really enjoyed it but I don't know what to listen to next
I only knew Heart of gold before casually discovering Borrowed tune and absolutely falling in love with it today. Have been meaning to get into his work for a while, any suggestions?
I am sick of the crappy run down wore out sofa chair and tables in my living room I feel Like throwing them all out. The couch is only good for the dog to lay on the finish is all worn off it. I hate the living room paint color I don’t even want to spend any time there. I do like the curtains but that’s it otherwise I want to throw everything in the trash.
I saw a good one for this, but by now it is 10 years old and doesn’t cover his more recent stuff. I got some help on this sub for Deerhunter, so maybe you guys can help me out. I’ve heard parts of “My Finest Work Yet” on the radio, and been loving that, and in thinking if I can get 5 essentials, that would be great. Maybe a few post “MFWY”.
Hi there, I was just wondering how to get a visualizer that has the structure of a picture and it has motion blur whenever the basses kick in for example. These are used a lot in Brazillian Funk videos and I do produce that kind of music and I do not really just want a picture. Here I have the context: Video 1 Video 2 Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hey music lovers! Let's dive into a thought-provoking topic today: the age-old debate between the "AllGenres" producer and the "One Genre" producer. 🎶🔥
Now, before we jump into any conclusions, it's crucial to acknowledge that both types of producers bring their unique strengths to the table. Each approach has its merits, and the ultimate judgment depends on personal preferences and specific goals. So, let's take a closer look at the pros and cons of each.
🎛️ "AllGenres" Producer 🎵🌐
1️⃣ Versatility: An "AllGenres" producer is a chameleon of the music world, adept at navigating various genres, styles, and sounds. This versatility allows them to adapt to different artists' visions and expand their creative horizons.
2️⃣ Collaboration potential: Being well-versed in multiple genres, the "AllGenres" producer can collaborate with artists from diverse backgrounds. This opens doors to exciting cross-genre experiments and fusions, resulting in fresh and innovative musical experiences.
3️⃣ Broader audience appeal: By transcending the boundaries of a single genre, the "AllGenres" producer can attract a wider range of listeners. This versatility enables them to tap into different fan bases, potentially increasing exposure and opportunities.
🎛️ "One Genre" Producer 🎵🔒
1️⃣ Deep specialization: A "One Genre" producer focuses on a specific genre, honing their skills and knowledge to perfection within that musical realm. This expertise allows them to grasp the subtle nuances and intricacies unique to their chosen genre.
2️⃣ Niche expertise: Artists seeking a specific sound or style often turn to "One Genre" producers due to their in-depth understanding of the genre's essence. This specialized knowledge can result in highly refined and authentic productions that resonate deeply with fans.
3️⃣ Establishing a signature sound: By consistently working within one genre, "One Genre" producers can develop a recognizable and distinctive style. This can become their trademark, attracting artists who specifically desire that particular sonic identity.
So, which is better? 🤔 Well, it's subjective and largely depends on your musical aspirations, preferences, and individual circumstances. Some artists prioritize versatility and experimentation, while others seek specialization and authenticity.
Ultimately, the ideal producer for you is the one who understands your vision, shares your passion, and can help you achieve your creative goals, regardless of whether they specialize in one genre or embrace all genres.
Remember, music is an ever-evolving art form, and what matters most is the magic that happens when talented individuals collaborate, push boundaries, and create something extraordinary. 🎵✨
Let's celebrate the diversity of producers and embrace the beauty of music in all its forms! 🎶❤️

I want to listen to some deerhunter; I’ve heard “He Would Have Laughed” and loved it so I want to know where to go from there.
well… where do i start on the genre? and where i can dig beyond the “beginner level”?
